>people mock amiibos for being $20 happy meal toys>nintendo: I know, let’s make them $40-$60 nowSurely, you’re not buying them anymore are you? Even I own a few, but this is absurd. What the fuck is going on at Nintendo right now?

>>720689392>>720689469desu while i have no intentions on buying these since i’m not a manchild they seem reasonably priced. collectible figures these days aren’t cheap and these have built in chips. when you take tariffs into consideration and the increased size $40 seems about right. nintendo are a bunch of greedy jews but the amiibo pricing doesn’t seem that extreme to me compared to the dlc in dk and pokemon. or the galaxy remasters being $80.
>>720689714Hello reality here, nothings been repaired and everythings been fucked harder. But you made a blue haired seethe so its all worth
Supposedly, the Kirby Air Riders ones have two chips instead of one. One on the craft and one in the figure itself. Still overpriced, though.
>>720690232nah even video games are healing, slowly but surely
>>720688259I mean I kinda get it being more expensive for the Air Riders ones. They are essentially two in the box itself, and they're interchangeable with others at that. But $60? Fuck's sake, $30 (double the price) could be considered reasonable. $60 is fucking psychopathic. What the fuck is Furukawa thinking? "They'll buy it anyway?" Worst part is, he's probably right.
>>720688259you got two figures, seems fairly reasonable

>>720690334>Worst part is, he's probably rightAlready know someone who plans on buying all of them. Nintendo never loses. Everyone bitches and complains about the prices, but few actually do anything over them. >>720688259
>>720690380This was MSRP $25, and was often sold for less (got mine for $17). For more than twice that, Nintendo offers you one non-articulated figure of even less detail and of smaller size, with added prop.

>>720688259It's just one of their many scams. Do you honestly believe this plastic toy probably made in some Chinese factory costs so much?

>>720688868this post is what lost you an election btw, retard
>>720694787>some poorly painted figure without articulation>quality productIt’s not that it’s a lot of money. As a /toy/fag, I often spend way more on figures. It’s just that you’re getting crap for what you’re paying for. Nintendo knows that people like you have zero self control or standards, and that’s why they never lose.
>>720694787ok, i'll bite. why should i put down $150 on galaxy 1 and 2 + an overpriced plastic nfc chip that gets mogged by pop up parade statues instead of, say, a whole used wii that comes with galaxy 1 and 2 for $20 less?
>>720695897You don’t need to buy the amiibos. $70 for Galaxy 1 and 2 at a higher resolution and (possibly) framerate than the wii version is perfectly reasonable. You also get the portability of the switch. I don’t get why /v/ is seething so hard over the Galaxy bundle? The Wii U versions are $20 each, but those are just the wii versions. I’d rather pay $70 for both and get the better experience/portability. But I get that for people on /v/ an extra $30 is a massive investment. It’s poverty issue and nothing more.
No reason to cost more than $30, I don't care about the size, two pieces or whatever excuse you want to make. Amiibo quality has always been poor to decent and chips with a passthrough aren't expensive to produce. $50 is ten shy of a brand new game and would buy you a dozen actually great titles digitally. We've reach EA era Nintendo in full swing and we saw the signs years ago but nothing could stop it
>>720690870But articulated figures are usually cheaper than statues, and this isn't more detailed than any Amiibo, comparing Amiibos to a pop up parade would've made more sense
>>720688259Yeah let's go back to the $12 amiibos
>>720696391that's cool, but i'm not dropping one hundred fifty fucking dollars on a texture pack. prettier graphics and portability don't mean shit when i could play project m without having to even hack my wii if i spend a few extra bucks for brawl, nevermind doing away with discs as a whole and hacking the thing, or straight up using dolphin to upres the games
>>720688868I hope they actually do charge $80 for these, nintendo fans deserve it for being cucks.
>>720688259What a disgusting company. Jesus Christ.
>>720690320Nah. For video games to heal, the market needs to absolutely crash and Nintendo is the accelerating it. Things will be good until the new year, which Nintendo's sales will start to implode as job losses mount and credit card limits max out.
>>720688868>tariffs happened. you could have voted for harris but trans people were too scary for youI know that you're baiting, but I never pass on an opportunity to /pol/post on /v/. Every other country on Earth, including Japan, had tariffs on the United States, and it was bleeding us dry. Now that we're $37 trillion in debt, we don't have the luxury of just letting other countries rip us off free anymore. The tariffs were a necessary defense to exert pressure on other countries and force them to the bargaining table so that we can get them to deal more fairly with us again. For the countries that actually want to make fair deals with the US, I suspect that the tariffs will be short term. They'll only stick around for the countries that don't want to cooperate with us
>>720688259>What the fuck is going on at Nintendo right now? They're riding high on the success of the Switch and are entering a "price exploration" phase where they're testing the waters to see how far they can get away with increasing their prices without losing customers. The tariffs were just a convenient excuse. Game development costs have risen, inflation has risen, and game prices have been stagnant at $60 for 30 years now. The price of games was inevitably going to go up, the question was only "by how much?" Nintendo is currently attempting to answer that question
>>720696760a-are those actually real? wtf?

>>720698495And what's stopping you from cumming on your Amiibos?
>>720698503It really is embarrassing how fucking retarded they are. That anon and others like him are poor as fuck and genuinely believe it's everyone else holding them down, not that they're just inferior.
>>720697910Except this completely ignores supply and demand. You can get tons of AAA games for free or very cheap now. Amazon routinetly gives them away if you already use prime. Epic game store gives them away all the time. Then theres emulation and old abandonware. I literally have 75,000+ games on a flash drive and I couldn't play them all if I lived to be 1000.
>>720698503Yes, really. The other countries were tariffing our goods, so you have two choices - 1) do nothing (which is what we did for decades and we allowed ourselves to be taken advantage of), or 2) use your leverage, tariff them back, and force them to the bargaining table to lower their tariffs. America is still the number one economy in the world (for now). Other countries need our markets far more than we need their trinkets. When you have that kind of leverage, you use it. It might create some short term pain, but in the long run it's far better than just allowing the rest of the world to rob us blind
>>720698624Ugly designs. Only Rosalina and Peach would possibly get hot glued. But the quality would need to be a lot higher than what it’s currently at.
>>720698608I'd honestly probably buy the Rosalina one, but thats it. The thing about amibos was that they felt cheap enough where if you had some extra cash you could grab a few, but at this price point i'm viewing them more like anime figures and just getting one or two because I really like them. If I encounter a game that needs an amibo i'm just using a clone nfc tag.
>>720698624They're not sealed well enough so when you go to wash them water is going to settle in the base.
>>720698347i thought those were fursuits
>>720688259This is what happens when you have EA executive together with someone that literally hates games as president of the company. They find every conceivable way to nickle and dime you. This will not end until both of them step down and people that care about the health of the industry and games in general take their positions.
>>720698714If you notice most of these retards will say other countries have tarrifs on us, but neglect to say why. A majority of tariffs (pre trump) were to either prop up certain essential markets in their own country, national security reasons, or to prevent dumping. The issue with the Trump tariffs was that they were from a position of bullying other countries, but that only works if you have significant leverage over them. Had we had that leverage, I'm sure a lot of tariffs would have worked (albeit if they were reduced to a reasonable level). So now we have a double negative. Things now cost more because of the tariffs and the countries we would normally consider allies are trading between each other and excluding us. Literal bad end.
>>720698772You're looking at those tarrifs from a completely empty headed understanding. For each and every tarrif, you need to understand why they were put in place. You don't understand them and you're looking at them as ripping us off when in reality, the intent is completely different. This is how a vindictive child thinks before he understands cause and effect and the consequences of his actions.
>>720698347The $200 figures are better quality and you can have sex with them.
>>720688259>>720688290>>720688868>Tariffs happenedNot only that but Nintendo isn’t humbled by failure anymore anc isn’t getting put in their place by Sony and Microsoft, also they’re pretty cocky after the massive success of the Switch 1.

>>720688259Amiibo aren’t sold for being affortable, physical DLC anymore. They’re sold to be permanent shelf presence and appealing to collectors. Normalfags stopped buying them once smash started to dry up, leaving the market almost exclusively for hardcore tendies. They can charge whatever price they want with that pretext. The fact that most amiibo don’t release alongside the games they’re attached to makes this pretty obvious. We got Xenoblade 3 and Tears of the Kingdom figures almost two years after their respective releases. I pick them up every once in a while, but definitely not as frequently as I used to. Might grab Rosalina and the Samus bike, I dunno. The Kirby ones would be cool if the swapping gimmick was usable without dropping 100 fucking dollars minimum. I would love to have a collection with a bunch of machines and riders on my shelf, but that’ll probably never happen.
>>720699820>when everyone hates Nintendo more now than ever before and the Switch 2 has a lot of controversy surrounding itThis isn't happening anon.
>>720699820You know she’s going to loved again after the movie comes out. Better get used to that now.
>>720698772You're the one paying for the tariffs at the end of the day anon. It will make the american products more competitive and make them look more affordable, but you're going to eat the tariff extra cost for goods that were made elsewhere or using parts produced in the rest of the world. In vidya term, it's supposed to make you buy an xbox instead of PS or Nintendo, but that's not how it will go.
>>720689960That DK DLC is definitely overpriced and although I've not paid attention in a few years given game freaks usual output I'll believe you on that too but I see no issue with 80$ Mario Galaxy collection
>>720691410I swear, I do not like Doug Bowser. You don’t see this guy at all BTW. We only hear from him when he tries to justify prices like with Mario Kart World. Former EA executive adds up. Reggie was at a few Nintendo Direct/Presentations whenever he got the chance to be.

I'm aware that they exist, but this is just a typical leftist obfuscation method. We're speaking generally about the topic of tariffs here. For decades other countries treat the US as a free piggy bank and tariffed our products, and no one criticized them for it. But suddenly the orange man is bad for putting tariffs back on them. >>720700347I'm fine with that. To be clear, I think you're doing half of the jew's work for them when you just assume that the cost of tariffs are automatically passed on to the consumer, but that's a different discussion. To your point, I'm okay with paying more in the near future because, as I said, I suspect that these tariffs are little more than a bargaining chip to force other countries to drop their tariffs on our goods first. These are good in the long run, despite some potential short term cost increases, and I'm okay with that.

>>720688868While I agree that tariffs are bad and also agree that the fact they were being downplayed prior to Trump winning, I also believe that the sheer extent we've seen amiibo go up in price can't be explained by solely tariffs. If it was just tariffs, amiibo would have gone up to $25 at most, and still could have squeezed into $20 for regular figures. In fact, Nintendo's accessories for the Switch 2 went up by around $5 almost across the board. Why are amiibo around twice they price they were in the past?>>720689392>>720689469Okay, then $30? >>720702845>If it was just tariffs, amiibo would have gone up to $25 at most,The ride and rider amiibo are dual packs, then usually sold at 40 before the tariffs. That means they've only gone up by 20.

At worst you pay like $20-25 for something nowadays. I'm still kicking myself over not picking up Box Boy Returns when it was $20 and no one was buying it.>>720707523>it definitely became more of a hassleWhat? It got obscenely easier because now tons of them shelfwarm (Basically every single Mario-related one, the Minecraft ones, Lucario, Falco, many Splatoon ones, and the BotW ones to name a few).Gamestop gets a crazy amount of them nowadays with solid variety and pretty much every single one around me is still carrying the Monhun ones. Even the Loot Goblin took a solid year to sell out in my stores.Target is now starting to stock more of them than they used to it's just not pre-Covid levels anymore.Importing is also far more reliable because now Europe and Japan get reprints on top of the US making so many of the Smash ones essentially MSRP.
Wait the game is getting amiibos? SHiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeetttttttttttttttt... gazebo amiibo
>>720697792It wasnt a rip off you dumb fuck. You guys were at the table. It was a deal that took a long fucking time to make and was a way so it was fair for the entire world. What happens now is that big gov gets a fuck ton of money because YOU have to pay more for shit and then the "oh so obvious dictator that wont leave next election" can build a cool ballroom in the house that didnt have that shit because it was "we the people" and not "us the elite".The tarrifs. The virtual boy is 80 euro, and 100 dollars. Its not greedy nintendo, those 20 extra bucks go into the pocket of the elite you so wanted to fight.Have you read 2035 gaza plans? Thats everything you fags wanted to fight
>>720707753Admittedly I haven’t really kept up or bought one in years. I remember there was a point where if you didn’t show up early you probably wouldn’t get one and they instantly got scalped. That’s when I stopped bothering with them. It looks like things have changed since then. Maybe I’ll look for some of the rarer ones to see what I can find.
Im at least somewhat proud of the fact that ive never owned an amiibo, some of the early smash ones were at least somewhat appealing. I think i have like 3 things made by funko though, so not perfect in the plastic garbage department.
>>720688259>>720688290this is a joke right
>>720708090That's how it used to be early on and then during some of Covid. The past three or so years it's been fairly reasonable and normalized. Like I said there's still the odd Amiibo that does stay rare but overall they're doing quite well with reprinting most of the expensive ones and even ones that aren't expensive but didn't get as much time. Animal Crossing (Non-Smash) will always be the pariah though, that set killed TtL as a brand for most stores. If you want to know the shelfwarmers currently it's Metroid Dread, Loftwing, all of Monhun, anyone from the Mario Series, and Smash MInecraft. If you want to know the current rare ones:>The Fire Emblem sets. The standalone ones from Echoes I think it was, not Smash. Smash have had reprints and are reasonably priced.>Box Boy.It was a JP-only pack-in that never got a reprint.>SolaireGamestop exclusive and he was immediately knocked off so a huge chunk of the ones out in the wild are Chinese knockoffs and not the actual Amiibo. It's very hard to find a legitimate version of him because the knockoff looks so similar.>Mii Fighter set. This hasn't been reprinted and while it shelfwarmed when it first released it started getting rarer as time went on and now it's like $80-100 compared to the $35 MSRP.>Splatoon 1 alternate color set.Only set that hasn't been reprinted from Splatoon. Japan got individual releases instead of a set but it's still fairly expensive to hunt down.>Loot GoblinGamestop exclusive. Shelfwarmed at release but now it's like $60 for a non-used one.>Samus Returns dual pack.Samus herself is dirt cheap, you can easily get her alone for like $25 because Japan and I believe Europe had individual releases. The Metroid itself is what balloons the price to a starting used price of around $70. If you want the dual pack new it's typically $100+ while used it's about $80.>Mega Man 11 Mega Man.Pack-in with the game. I believe it had a standalone release in Japan but it floats around $70.
>>720708619>Metroid DreadNice. I wanted to get some of those but didn’t bother. Do you think these new bigger, more expensive amiibo could be more difficult to get? Those new prices could scare off normalfags and lead to Nintendo making less of them. I’m tempted to preorder that Rosalina one in case it gets scalped to hell.
>>720708854Nah, go look at the Street Fighter and TotK Amiibos like I mentioned earlier. They're shelfwarming hard and even with discounts almost immediately after they came out they're still having a hard time moving. I thought Metroid Dread would be scalped myself after SR and ordered it from Japan for like $20 extra and it turned out to be shelfwarm city.
>>720688259>>720689139At this point it's better to buy one of those digital simulators off amazon
and then, for no reason at all, prices started increasingnobody seems to know why
>>720688259>$60 for thisNintendo are going to be charging $100 per game in a few years, aren’t they? No way they keep their games at $80 when they charge this much for some cheap plastic figurine. You could have stopped them but refused to listen. Now live in the doomed world you created.
>>720699820>this guy was also Precious Leaf
I thought the amiibos I bought in 2015 were worth more. They're worthless, what the fuck.
>>720688868I vastly prefer the slowing and even removal of antiwhiteism, rather than it's acceleration.you can get fucked.
No, I pirated every amiibo since my phone has a nfc writer
>>720689960These aren't good figurines. They are literally barely a step above happy meal toys. They should be $5 max.
>>720698108the first wave of amiibos were pretty grim at times yuh.
>>720689469They could size down so the new base fits to old but it would be costly. Bigger figurine is easier for the details. So yeah, they scalp you.
>>720696760>>720698108>>720696760Thank you, I haven't posted this in ages.
>>720692985This, it's literally companies using tariffs as an excuse to raise prices the way many used supply chain issues during the coof to raise them; more than those issues actually justified, on things that weren't necessarily supply constrained, and for long after the issues had cleared up. Most of the goods we buy are impacted by tarrifs in one way or another somewhere down the manufacturing chain, yet price increases across the economy have been overall incredibly small. All the really notable price hikes have been concentrated in a few specific markets, or even a few specific companies within those markets, and not in a way where them being the exception is really explained by just saying "muh tariffs", nor would it explain why aren't making adjustments to their business model that reduce the impact of those tariffs so that price hikes are minimized enough to avoid a reduction in sales.
You can pre-order a new Nendoroid for 50$ and it comes with multiple faces, hands and accessories. What justifies Amiibo's high ass prices when it's 1/4ths the quality and uses 10 cent NFC tags from ali express?
