>We're making a GTA game with the main character's criminal past set in Europe >we need a bad guy with a European name>Bulgaria is a country in Europe so... Bulga...bulgari... Bulgarin that's it!Bravo Rockstar
My headcanon is that Bulgarin is his nickname. Maybe he's from Bulgaria or operates there.
>>720689504Based, unironically. Also, looking back it was rather experimental to have his end not come in the base game itself but rather be reserved for one of the DLC. Think about it: Niko never learns what happens to Bulgarin, he just meets him twice and makes his life hell via Dimitri but he ends up being taken out by Luis of all people. God, IV's Impossible Trinity was so much better than V's. I understand experimentation and seeing what works and what doesnt's, but Michael/Franklin/Trevor was definitely a miss.

GTA IV's story is frustrating because the most logical choice (revenge) leads to the least satisfying ending (killing pegorino).
>>720690296Yeah that's a shame. Money is easily the best ending narratively even if it's worse for Niko, but I feel almost nobody's gonna go for it over Revenge even if the game kinda tries to sell you on the whole "revenge bad" only to then fuck you over it which I adore. Far better than Druckmann's style of 'revenge bad'.
>>720689504the two opposing main characters are Nico and Darko like it's fucking sonic the hedgehog
>>720690797It's hard to go with "revenge bad" when Rascalov is a known chronic backstabber. Accepting the deal isn't forgiving, it's just stupid. Niko as a character wouldn't accept the deal and, narratively, it's better to end the game killing Rascalov with whom you have long-standing history than Pegorino who you just met in the middle of the game.
>>720691309>Accepting the deal isn't forgiving, it's just stupidThat's my point yeah. The idea of "revenge bad" somewhat works if the slight you're getting over is an old one, but GTA IV tricks you because Dimitri's betrayal is recent so if Niko tries to forgive and forget, he's simply gonna get fucked over hard because his enemies aren't as naive. As for Pegorino, in a way it fits in the sense that's he's *so* much of a joke both to the player and to the other Families, that him getting one over Niko is that much more insulting. Like's he's a pathetic side villain that got lucky and killed someone close to you after you already killed the 'main bad guy' in the Platypus, as a reminder that this is a dark story and Niko can never be fucking happy. Still, as said, Money > Revenge.
