what happened to cheat codes? why are they either "accessibility options" or dlc now?
Console developer menu, unc
>>720693015Most Lego games have cheat codes still.
When has a cheat been DLC?
>>720694473Dead Rising 2 off the record had a cheat code menu dlc.
>>720693067 Based devs leaving backdoors open, honestly. Too bad most modern games bury it behind encrypted files or lock it unless you're a QA build or running on a debug console. Used to be you could hit Up, Down, Left, Right, A+B+Start and get infinite ammo. Now you need a modding degree and a hex editor just to turn off fall damage.
>>720693015Blame a part of it on Achievements and online features/components being the standard. Leads to potential for $$$ to be made. Also, lots of games nowadays are online/co-op and built around that pretty much, how can we work cheat codes into that? Obviously it'd be a problem for competitive games, but it'd seem annoying for even co-op games. That being said, With many cases on what would've been a good idea for a cheat code in some games, would already be worked into the natural gameplay itself nowadays. Like with any other craft, different groups take what's proven to work..and blend some of it into their own. Over the decades devs basically phased-out them out.
>>720693015I miss the fun cheats like the one you can unlock in Wolfenstein 2009 that turns everybody into Pumpkinhead.

>>720693015Know what I fucking miss? Fun cheat codes. Shit like big head mode or whatever. Just wacky shit for the hell of it. My favorite example is the Riot cheat from GTA 3, VC, and SA. Just causes all the NPCs to riot, simple stuff. Used to turn that on and try to make it from one end of the city to the other on foot. And when that got too easy you could turn on the all pedestrians have weapons cheat. And when that got too easy you could turn on the Pedestrians Hate You cheat. Fun stuff. GTA V would be great with it, but no, can't have fun anymore.
