>>720701806No doubt. People really need to understand that using save states to undo mistakes really takes away from the difficulty in any given game which in turn ruins the experience. Making mistakes and learning to avoid them results in increased knowledge and mastery and makes the player feel a lot more competent which is satisfying. I used and abused saves and used a guide for every step on an NES Zelda 1 playthrough a few years back and it was the biggest waste of time when it was all said and done

>>720710654I think they're just crowd-clearing tools. When you're new to the game being able to fuck up an entire room is really nice, especially in the later dungeons. Sure, once you've beaten it a few times or are doing randomizers they're trinkets at best but in terms of baseline design giving the player something to do with their mana is enough.
mm i just killed some scorpion thing and saved some girl in a crystal also triforce was mentioned by the tree mani kinda liked them calling it the gold power, it made it feel like some jewish dude was larping as the wizard
