Why is it trashed without mercy?
>>
>>720704051
Maybe it's just too hard for the lowest common denominator
>>
It's not. MM is one of the most highly acclaimed masterpieces of all time, essentially 2nd only to OoT itself.

Most Zelda fans consider it as the flip-side of OoT, forming the duo of perfection.

It's the terrible 3DS port that is shunned.

To be fair, you need a very high IQ to understand Majora's Mask.
>>
>>720704051
Because niggas didn't understand the time mechanics back when it came out and they are too gay to play it now when they can understand it. Also nintendo bad, sony bad, microsoft bad v never plays gaymes.
>>
>>720704131
It is literally the most lowest-common-denominator game that has ever existed.
>OoT receives critical acclaim to the extent where it is widely considered one of the greatest games of all time
>No one wants to be that guy who likes the most popular thing
>H-h-heh, yeah, Majora is my favorite. It's so dark and deep, it's really for intellectuals such as myself. Aren't I unique?
>>

We were salivating for the 3DS remake only for the monkey paw to curl. Pretty much every change aside from gyro was disappointing to me.

This man was the real mastermind of the Zelda and I'm tired of pretending he's not. Everything he touched in this series turned to gold and it's hard to believe its legacy would have been anywhere close to where it is right now if he had not taken part in directing LTTP, LA, OoT and MM.

the 3ds remake has gotten shat on pretty consistently ever since nerrel made that video pointing out some of its flaws

I don't know who the fuck nerral is supposed to be, but the 3DS remake is garbage. That's an entirely different fucking thing from people "trash[ing it] without mercy."

It's probably that anon's channel and he's trying to shill. The 3DS remake was shat upon the second all of the atrocious changes were revealed.

It's actually insane. All they had to do was NOT go out of their way to fuck everything up. And their decision was to go out of their way to fuck everything up. It's genuinely difficult to wrap my head around. Who there was complaining about deku spinning and zora swimming? Who was complaining that the bosses were too difficult? I can't fathom how these awful changes were implemented despite literally no one ever criticizing these aspects in the original. I can only imagine some talentless nepobaby got control and no on wanted to say no?

Buddy I hate to break it to you but the 3DS remake was shat on from the outset, especially by diehard MM fans. I don't like MM much at all (it's among my least favorite Zelda games) but people were plenty loud about it.

It's a genuinely quite flawed game that people generally correctly see as a roughly made Ocarina asset flip, though one that's full of genuinely brilliant ideas and cleverly implemented concepts.

MM's fanbase is easily the most pretentious of the entire series.

NOT because the game lacks depth, the game easily has the most thematic substance and subtle storytelling of any Zelda, easily surpassing most acclaimed "art games", and they are correct to acknowledge this. Rather, they are super incessant that the game has no real faults or design issues and any possible complaint is always a matter of the person being filtered and not appreciating the shear genius that went into everything, no matter how obviously true the claim.

>All they had to do was NOT go out of their way to fuck everything up.
The original game was fucked up and they were completely in the right to radically overhaul it. If anything, they should have used their license to do more and redo the core design of the schedules and sidequests so that there's more substance to many of them than "wait around for NPC, repeat x times, do gimmick activity" or "do minigame each day for 3 days".

It's understandable that the original game was bad in this way, as the original schedule system and notebook pretty much dictated that quests would have to work like this, as it would be unreasonable to expect the player to actually explore the NPC schedules thoroughly given how repetitive that would be to actually do in the original game (which the remake makes much more viable in principle), so they gave in and just automatically marked the times for every activity and told you who to wait around for in the OG.

Granting the player the ability to move forward in time and also reload form arbitrary points in the remake, while also making the Bomber's Notebook more flexible and something you have to fill in yourself to discover the NPC's schedules, should have allowed for better designed quests, but the game was unfortunately stuck with the weak implementation of the OG quests despite being built to allow for much richer interactions.

I play through it again every few years and always come out experiencing something new in the process. It's really fun trying to sequence shit to minimize the number of days needed to complete the game.

It literally filtered me as a kid. I doubt I'm alone.

I'm sure the game is good I just wasn't old enough to understand how to play it and if I actually took the time to go back and play it now I'd likely enjoy it.

Yeah, unlike us, right anon? We're super high IQ because we watch other people play video games. Fucking NPCs who aren't into digital cuckoldry.

>>720704051
That's what smoothbrains typically do.
It's a brilliant game for people intelligent enough to grasp the concept of the time rewind mechanic and appreciate the depth it adds to the game. It only takes a tiny wrinkle in your brain.
>>
>>720707239
It’s actually pretty challenging and rewards you for being curious and thinking outside the box. I played OoT and MM back to back a few years ago since I’d never played either of them before, and although MM felt a bit “off” at first it quickly grew on me. It’s a much, much better game than OoT.
>>
It's a great game but it feels SIGNIFICANTLY overglazed by people who were impressionable teenagers when they played it first and the age really shows in janky controls in both N64 and 3DS versions (to the point where one minigame actively makes fun of you if you fail what's supposed to be a fairly simple platforming challenge which you can only fail because camera and autojump controls are total fucking garbage)

I hate how they changed how you get the notebook in the first place because it absolutely fucking ruins what is arguably one of the best organic tutorials in a video game.

>I can only imagine some talentless nepobaby got control and no on wanted to say no
Worse, it was Aonuma.
>>
>>720707980
I do at least respect the remake for preserving how you discover the "Song of Time variations". You could easily see a less disciplined dev giving in and granting this to the player instead of making it a natural mystery that you solve by interacting with the game in this organic way.
>>
>>720707980
>basic plot of mm is helping the happy mask salesman, a victim of theft
>in mm3d the hms steals a child's notebook because he was annoyed
I just think it's kinda funny.
>>
>>720707129
The thing that kills me is they had the perfect framework set up to take things further and actually reimagine parts of it while staying loyal to the atmosphere and pacing. Instead they did this half-in, half-out overhaul that guts the mechanics for what amounts to UX tweaks and defense against player friction. The problem was never that sidequests required patience-it’s that the rewards or outcomes didn’t properly reflect that investment. All they had to do was amplify consequence, player agency, and tie branching logic more into gameplay systems, but instead they gave us glossy handholding and nerfed everything unique about time management.
>>
>>720704051
It's not really "trashed" as much as some people just don't like the time mechanic/day system.

I fucking love the day system and every year older I get it boggles my mind more and more that they managed something like that on the N64 with a year of dev time.
It feels so alive and real, so many NPCs actually move around and change dialogue options, different things happen to them depending on what you do in the days prior...on the N64 of all consoles.
The Ikana valley house jumpscare was way too fucking spooky for a nintendo kid like me though.
>Little girl trapped in a house being constantly hounded by the same kind of zombies her father is morphing into, powerless to do anything
The moon crash was a fucking blessing for her and her alone
