1) Social media, Discord and the general appification and commodification of the entire human experience destroyed the social element meaning the major element of MMOs are redundant. 2) The normalisation of the absolutely greedy and egregious monetisation methods that has permeated through the entire genre and broader industry fragments player bases and destroys goodwill.3) the nature of the the hyper connected modern internet means that chinks, jeets, favela monkeys and other undesirables constantly ruin your gameplay experience causing playerbases to collapse4) complete and utter horseshit moderation practices that are bias, automated or just completely opaque. Once somebody gets burnt once, losing all of their time and money, they're less likely to pick up another MMO. Also causes a chilling effect where everyone is scared to fucking say anything further destroying social elements.5) Devs are incompetent faggot diversity hires who don't know their audience and sabotage their own games with political agendas and woke faggot shit, just making everybody angry, frustrated and polarised. The death of the MMO genre can be almost entirely blamed on developers and their actions over time. They did it to themselves. Sure, shit like Discord and its consequences isn't their fault - but that alone didn't kill MMOs. The MMO devs killed their own industry and every day I pray that the dear Lord burns many more filthy game dev beasts alive.

That quickly stopped being a novelty so much it brought up that shovelware era of MMOs where chinks would rip off as many KMMOs as possible. Fists of Fu was literally a straight code by code Elsword rip off.Then MOBAs came and after all genres had multiplayer elements hence why we have people saying PoE and Warframe being MMOs despite not having all the elements that tended to be in MMOs so the term became kind of a meme when now all mobile games have a global chat, guilds, lobbies, etc.
