I started playing fallout with fallout 2, I enjoyed it although it could get tedious at times and had a huge learning curve. I have played 3, 4, and 76 as well. I recently started playing NV again and I just don't see what's so great about it.1) The game railroads you through the plot throwing creatures at you to kill you if you try to explore.2) I found no good reason for my character to get involved in the main plot beyond killing Benny.3) an empty desert is the worst setting. I spend about 10 minutes walking somewhere on the horizon that looks interesting only to find there's nothing there and the building is boarded up. It's like no effort was put into anything that doesn't connect to the main plot.4) it's cool that you can use multiple ways to solve a quest but most weren't that great to begin with.I will say The DLCs are a bit of a saving grace and pretty fun. I want to like this game but I just don't see it.

>>720715120I think it's the worst because of how it has one foot in RPG design and the other in the looter shooter design. If I want RPG fallout I'll play 1 or 2, if I want open world looter shooter fallout I'll play 3 or 4. New Vegas is the worst of both worlds and doesn't do either very well.
>>720715120>throwing creatures at you to kill you if you try to explorecreatures are not big deal because they can be defeatedinvisible walls on the other hand...
>>720715120>1) The game railroads you through the plot throwing creatures at you to kill you if you try to explore. They are there to discourage you from heading that way but they in no way stop you, I've done many a run where I've skipped the whole intro and gone to new vegas right off the bat. This feels more like a newness issue OP, I think if you keep pushing against this wall you realise it's not a negative at all.>2) I found no good reason for my character to get involved in the main plot beyond killing Benny. You are pretty smoothly onboarded into the plot in my opinion, it starts with looking for Benny but as a result of your goals and actions you end up bumping elbows with the big faction leaders, and since you are resourceful, they all offer you jobs, it's up to you which ones you take, but this seamlessly ties you into the main plot weather your role play be pure revenge or just a mercenary or something else, if you're focused on revenge why wouldn't you be grateful to Cesare for capturing Benny for you and allowing you to get your revenge? If all you want is Benny the game gently pushes you to Cesars side.

>>720715272>if I want open world looter shooter fallout I'll play 33 gets alot of slack from me, and its RPG elements are underrated and sometimes surpass NV, it has a better open world, but my god, its shooting mechanics are so insanely gigaass, I cannot agree here. Not that NVs are much better but at least a bit.
>>720715120>1) The game railroads you through the plot throwing creatures at you to kill you if you try to explore.what do you think happens in fallout 1 and 2 genius
Hello sars
>>720715120>I started playing fallout with fallout 2Yes, of course.
>>720715272>if I want open world looter shooter fallout I'll play 3Why? It has like 10 guns and they all suck.
>>720715120>The game railroads you through the plot throwing creatures at you to kill you if you try to explore.Fuck off. I'll take New Vegas rail-roading newbs with challenge over Fallout 1 handholding the player through the game. There's several times where you're provided the option to ask for directions from NPCs to locations you've never even heard of, as to lazily allow the player to autowalk there--and with these NPCs often being placed directly in your way or the player being directed to them as intended progress--but somehow that's not enough, because there's also Caravans that act as teleports that pay THE PLAYER (NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND) to take them to the next intended city.
>>720719308better level design and random encounters mostly also google says there's over 100 guns and I don't mind them
