Why did sports games never get popular aside from FIFA (and to a lesser extent Madden and NBA 2K)?

Extreme sports games used to do really well too: Tony Hawks, Skate, NBA Street, NFL Street, FIFA Street, SSX, etc. And even combat sport games were really popular: UFC, Fight Night, Ready 2 Rumble, etc. I don't really get the point of this thread because sports games are really popular and are almost always ranked pretty high when it comes to sales and even mtx. A better discussion would be about the death of extreme sports games and extreme sports in general. I remember growing up in the late 90s, early 00s everyone I knew watched the X-Games and cared about skating, BMX, snowboarding and all that shit. Nowadays it seems like nobody gives a fuck at all. I think the last time I heard people even talking about the X-Games or extreme sports is when Pastrana did that backflip or that one dude almost died trying to do a 1080.

>>720735418Another thing that has objectively hurt some of the extreme sports games is a combination of stingy licensing rights and marketers not wanting the games to appear so violent. Like you won't get another NFL Blitz again because EA owns exclusive rights and the NFL is a bunch of jews that don't want kids growing up thinking football is violent so they can end up as braindead retards later in life with multiple concussion .
