The game's soundtrack is mostly intense percussive droning, chanting and haunting melodies to the point that when the Soviet anthem kicks in during the final sequence to plant the flag, it seems almost violently out of place in how triumphant it sounds, and then quickly gives way to melancholy brass in the denouement with footage and audio of Harry Truman, Douglas MacArthur and the atomic bomb. And then of course COD Zombies starts.It only seems anti-war when every other COD was generally sanitized like a WW2 film/TV drama, Medal of Honor was just Wolfenstein without zombies and giant robots, and COD4 was "we watched every 80s/90s/2000s military movie for a week without sleeping and copied whatever we thought looked cool."

Call of Duty, at least from MW1 to BO2, is a really weird franchise thematically. It always come close to having something meaningful to say, like Reznov telling Mason that the flags are different but the methods are the same, or General Shepard committing a false flag attack to justify increased militarism, but it always pulls back on the message and defaults to "shoot the bad guys for america OORAH!" by the end
