The last physical game I bought was in 2012. My first PC was in 2000. So I've been going on pure digital longer than I have been physical. Crazy.

I actually realized I lied. My first Windows PC was in 2000, my first Mac was in 1997 or 96. I actually bought a digital game back then, too, as one of my first games.

They went out of their way to make it as annoying as possible to justify physical media on their no games station.

It makes sense. PS5 games are less popular than fucking Skylanders.

Nobody cares about physical media, it's a smokescreen to make DRM boxes more acceptable. The only thing that matters is that you have the files, can play them without DRM or company infrastructure and can do whatever you want with them.
>>
>>720751312
Gen 10 will be all digital

That's why gamestop is becoming a merch-funko shop instead of just being for games they're reading the room

Physical copies are just cardboard with digital keys on them anyway. Even if they don't you still need an account online to access the game which means if that account server goes down, your piece of shit physical copy is just as dead.

why are pclards like this?
for first party game the split is almost 50/50 btw
obviously if toss together DLCs, AI slop on the ps store and multiplats in the digital camp then yeah I can see why you would get that figure but let's not act delusional
ps6 has a confirmed disc drive
nintendo will sort the game key card thing
pclards stay mad
>>
>>720753063
>for first party game the split is almost 50/50 btw
Source?
>>
>>720751312
yeah, because they keep making it a hassle on purpose so they then can go "look! nobody gives a fuck about physical!"
>>
>>720753063
Will ps6 games even fit on discs lmao
>>
>>720751312
>make a console with no disc drive
>push the price of the disc drive add-on higher while restocks are going down
>refuse to sell more than a specific amount of discs to retailers
>constantly offer deals on the ps store that rival steam sales
>wtf why aren't people buying physical media anymore?
>>
>>720753063
Because Physical on PC is far worse than Digital.
>>
>>720753339
ur mom nigga

>There were fewer big single-player and family games in 2024. But one of the bigger ones that did launch, Astro Bot on PlayStation 5, was 55% physical in the UK and nearly 60% physical across Europe.
also for the consoles themselves the digital/disc drive split is also around that number so keep seething lardass
>>720753641
yes because most games even today don't fill a full blu ray
and we also had multiple instances of a box having more than one disc, it's not an issue
>>720753753
no the fat cuck gaben made it worse and people went along with it
>>
>>720752476
This. The same way Netflix killed off Blockbuster and other DVD rentals, what's the point of buying a physical game, either going to the store or waiting for it to ship, rather than just downloading it on demand? Especially when every single physical game needs a download anyway these days.
>>
>>720751312
>4 exclusives for most of its lifetime
>they were just codes in boxes
>97% of the platform is digital-only multiplats and retro games
why didn't anyone buy """""physical""""" ps5 games?

also that headline is misleading, as they neglect to mention that most of their money comes from microtransactions and subscriptions rather than physical OR digital game sales in the first place.
>>
>>720753951
because it literally has resell value and it's easier to share/gift/lend
you are not gifting your worthless account to anyone, it's just trash with zero value even if you had all the steam games ever released on it
>>720754313
>4 exclusives for most of its lifetime
cope
>they were just codes in boxes
gigacope
>why didn't anyone buy """""physical""""" ps5 games?
because retards like you see number and immediately assume that's how things should be
>>
>>720753951
>Especially when every single physical game needs a download anyway these days
Not true. 85% of PS5 games are fully on disc.

That's one game that hasn't even sold 3M copies. Helldivers 2 has sold over 15M copies.
>>
>>720754425
>it's just trash with zero value even if you had all the steam games ever released on it
Then why do hackers sell Steam accounts they stole for hundreds to thousands of dollars all the time?
>>720754434
Most people aren't insane enough to play modern games without day 1 patches. Yes, it does play, but it's not an enjoyable experience.
>>
>>720754556
because skins or whatever slop pajeets collect nowadays, again shit with zero value
physical games are collectible items that have their own market and people who want to buy them for whatever reason
>>
>>720754425
>resell value
I’m not selling any of my games and steam already has lending same with ps5 so your post is pointless
>>
>>720754656
>again shit with zero value
A thing has value if people want to pay for it. Some guy sold a CSGO knife for over $30,000 because somebody else thought it had value.
Same with old games. There's plenty of old systems where stuff isn't being sold for more than a few bucks because nobody wants to buy it.
>>
>>720754795
Skins have no value. You cannot touch them, you cannot see them. They don't exist. NO VALUE.
>>
>>720754679
>I’m not selling any of my games
you do you retard
(of course you don't, because you cant')
>steam already has lending same with ps5 so your post is pointless
having to add a second account and share digital loicenses from it/add someone to steam family is literally not the same you mongoloid
>>720754795
nobody sane is buying that shit, it's just a bunch of pixels with zero value aside some random schizos that are into it
there's a big market for reselling real shit, csgo skins are nothing but a fraction of that
kids that steal their mom's credit card to shop on fortnite probably make give more money to epic than whatever people that hoard skins think they make
>>
Why did Sony give up optical drive development and opted to do installs?
>>
>>720754939
I sold off my entire gaming collection during the covid boom.
SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, and GameBoy.
Over 700 games and all the systems in working condition. I got about $2000 for it all. Not a bad haul.
Last year I checked my CS;GO inventory for shits and giggles and found out these old ass crates I just had sitting on my account were worth $15+ a piece. I made over $3000 selling them. Worthless bunch of pixels, my ass.
>>
>>720754679

Cuts out the physical retail middle man.
>>
I mean physical is pretty pointless now. Before games used to actually run off the discs and save up precious space, now the discs are just there to install the game off of and are just there to check to make sure you still own the game. Nintendo's the only one that still runs games off their cartridge and even they're starting to do that lame ass gamekey card bullshit.

>>
>>720755286
>Before games used to actually run off the discs
even in the 90s we would use "no disc" cracks on PC to allow us to not have to load from the CD which was slow as balls and more or less only served to hold the cutscene movies which took up inordinate amounts of data at the time.
>>
>>720755349
It honestly does at this point. Everyone's so fuckin' greedy with everything, and they do it because they know they can get away with it. They know everyone's too stupid to realize that what they're buying isn't worth it. No one's gonna stop buying, everything will get more expensive, games will continue to be rushed, and the stuff that wasn't done yet will be sold later as an extra $10-$40 DLC. Same with the post game content. I'm just so tired of it all.
>>
>>720753914
>no the fat cuck gaben made it worse and people went along with it
Wut.
>long install times
>DRM that would stop working after a while
>couldn't trade/resell/return because of how CD keys worked
>discs that got damaged
Gabe literally fixed all these problems.
>>

good luck running gta6 at launch fatjeet

Why even list games that have no release date and haven't been heard of in years?
