Ill have to think about it soon. Silksong made me completely rethink and reconsider whether Hollow Knight was ever a good game, or whether because it was one of the first big single games I played, that I had a juvenile appreciation of it.That would apply to Celeste too...if not for the fact that Celeste survived my return to playing and finishing up optional shit. So much so infact, that it ELEVATED my appreciation of it.When I returned to clean up some side stuff in Hollow Knight though, I had a weird feeling that the bosses like Grim and Radiance were not as hard as I remember the other bosses in the game being. But they were supposed to be the hardest base game bosses so what gives? This gets deeper, because now that ive played Silksong. I don't actually think the problem is difficulty, I think its something else hidden underneath. When I returned to clean up side stuff in Hollow Knight this was fairly soon after I had played Iconoclasts. And If i could honestly consider Iconoclasts a metroidvania, then id say its the best one, but I cant.Iconoclasts bosses were "easier" (really hard to quantify something like this). But they were 1. MUCH MUCH more varied.2. Incorparated and involved platforming in the boss fight much more frequently.3. Encouraged utilization of newly acquired abiltities and tools in novel ways in the boss fight.4. Dual Interactions with NPC companions.Which is why, despite having much fewer bosses than Hollow Knight and Silksong, I remember almost all of them far more distinctively, just by sheer virtue of the fact that I had to engage with them in not only more ways, but they demanded those different engagements.I still have to think about this, so i dont quite have quite an indepth answer with the exact problem with Silksong, and as a result: HKI chocked up my displeasure with HK's endgame side stuff to thr fact that you dont engage with the world anymore but only bosses and combat. And I wonder if the answer lies there.
whichever one that makes backtracking interesting ie. not thru rooms of trash mons you've already beaten previously
The china cat
>>720755603 Yeah, costumes are fine, but it doesn’t fix how weird the animations feel in motion. Game’s got that stiff early-gen indie 3D jank. Honestly feels like they put all their time into the OST and called it a day for polish. If modders start tweaking animations and adding QOL like teleport rooms and better hit feedback, it might actually be decent. Until then, I’m sticking with the classics.

>>720755952Yea. When there no longer are areas to explore I oftentimes start losing motivation rapidly. Applies to many different games.
any anons play this? is it good
>>720758809Yeah, i mean thats the obvious thing to point out. But I think its surface level, that's not the actual problem. Celeste reuses its level design in its B and C sides. Or atleast in the sense that "its the same level themeing and interactions" but yet it feels revitalized because the fundamental mechanics are deep enough that they can constantly be used in new ways.To be fair, I did enjoy the colosseum. But that is not remotely representative of the average combat encounter and even then there were still problems I had with it.Also, Silksong never solved the problem of the feeling I had finishing up side content in HK despite new areas in Part 2.But my thoughts are sporadic currently.

Idk the whole genre just kinda stinks2D shartformer with bad combat and backtrackingSpend half the game with no movement abilities and the other half with too many

la mulana is the only good one
>>720754743Axiom VergeI hate hard slop, I hate sad slop.I just want a fun relaxing Metroidvania that doesn't make me sweat blood traversing.I just wanna tank hits while playing music, get to a save point, heal and continue searching for items. If only it had an item icon like in Metroid games, I had 91% of items collected.
whoever told me dead cells was a good metroidvania fuck you
Which ones are the most Metroid-like?

ok ok I will try it.
>>720766070and I'm telling you my metroidvanias would kill you, traveller. They would kill a NEET. Go find another metroidvania seller.
>>720765630Fan-games, if you missed out on AM2RAxiom Verge has a heavy focus on guns, pretty pixel-art alien world, and awesome tunes.Environmental Station Alpha is set in space, I didn't stick with it for whatever reason, so I don't remember much. Good buzz, though.Shadow Complex is pretty blunt about borrowing from Metroid, it came out when indie metroidvanias were still a trickle. Has a really memorable use of a classic Metroid power up.
>>720755343Its kind of crazy that I want to play this game but I cant bring myself to because his head looks stupid.

What are we expecting from the god of war metroidvania? I hope it‘s similar to prince of persia the lost crown

>>720769158I hope it gets canceled.
>>720769742Why
>>720754743Rabi Ribi. If I had to pick one of those, Bloodstained.
>>720769158the what nowIt's a good fit, but I don't care, unless it has a really interesting hook. Bigger name just makes me wary that it'll be watered down, safe, bland 6/10I liked Strider well enough, it actually got nutty with powers and difficulty toward the end, and it's just such a dope character and aesthetic. Felt like a genuine attempt to carry on the legacy.
>>720771047Got leaked a while back. Probably gonna be in the next playstation showcase. I think it‘s the greek era god of war game that was rumored
Among non-Castlevanias and Metroids I think it's 100% this >>720755343I'm liking Silksong much more than the first HK and just beat act 2 tonight but am enjoying it less in the process of unlocking act 3 which happens to me often with these kinds of games, my opinion of Blade Chimera also went way down when I started trying to unlock the true final boss
>>720772061I think Silksong is grossly inferior to the first game despite having a lot of soul poured into it. Too unfocused and with too many retarded design decisions like crafting shards for tools.
>>720772061I despise this trend of hiding content behind stuff that you can‘t possibly know about by playing the game. They basically locked a third of silksong behind stuff that 99% of players that aren‘t using a guide won‘t know about. Fuck dark souls.
>>720755343A genuinely high effort project, and it's a shame it was basically doomed by that first trailer. Possibly the most comfortable and mechanically advanced metroidvania i've seen, you can do legit crazy shit thanks to the rewind power. A ton of smooth as fuck precision platforming too, including some absolutely bullshit sections.
Pacmanbros... You played his new game right? The absolute panicle of metroidvana

>>720772262I can sympathise with that yeah. My preference for Silksong mainly comes down to preferring its movement options.>>720772309For me it's also how much lower quality many of the sidequests feel compared to the "mandatory" content, I had pretty much the same issue with Blade Chimera
