Shame. HIU is the best soulslike since Dark Souls 1 with an incredible story. Just needed more enemy variety. Now there won't be any DLC because of unfair pricing from Team Cherry.

>>720761347Genuinely what the fuck are you talking about? This has got to be the most retarded take for the game I’ve ever seen.
I like Hell is Us. Combat is pretty average. It gets better with more skills and abilities - chaining your drone skills together with your lymbic abilities is quite nice, but it's still pretty bland. That being said; combat was never really a main selling point. So far I've enjoyed the puzzles and story quite a lot, though most of it has basically just been remembering and relatively basic word association. Like you'll get a note talking about the order of a puzzle and then the room will basically have the answer right there you just have to associate the words with the correct answer to press the buttons in the correct order. But given how much handholding most games have, it's still a breath of fresh air despite how simple it is. I did end up writing down a lot of notes on a notepad, from what unique symbols mean and what they're associated with to what keys and passphrases I've found and what they might mean. Which is kinda fun in it's own way.Though I don't think Silksong is the cause of the game flopping. I barely saw any level of marketing from the game and given how little handholding there is, I just don't see that as the type of game normalfags want to play.
>>720757836i heard this game is pretty decent. It would feel bad to have that big of a game shadow drop right on top of you. I can sympathize. They shouldn't have mentioned it though, just take it on the chin. People hate complainers.

>>720757836I bought Silksong just to spite everybody crying about how cheap Silksong is.
>>720764002Not him but I'll chime in. It's a 7.5-8/10 in basically every regard. Everything is above average borderline good but nothing is great. I will probably remember 2% of the game by the end of the year and the 2% will probably be run backs
>>720764146You can not be serious. The enemies in Hell is Us don't do shit bro. You just run up to them and spam attack and get the key pulse to heal back to full. There's 5 of them and they're all boring white humanoid shape creatures. I 100% both games, have you even played them? It sounds like you haven't.

>>720764187I'm not sure how you're possibly confused. You just select different areas to go to (from a Map in Hell is Us, from Archstones in Demon's Souls). The level design in Hell is Us is basically just copy/paste shit from Souls with the shortcut unlocking. They just added some puzzles and instead of bosses you get an item to solve a puzzle at the end. I think you may actually be retarded.

Elden Ring is probably higher, yes, based on boss achievements (Hoarah Loux is 40%, Malenia is 36%), but the default ending is even lower than the Ranni ending, and ending achievements are the only actual data available for who has actually beaten the game.

>>720769225>>720769281and sometimes it's just the bait poster responding to himself
>>720763970Sure, but maybe you should make that abundantly clear in the marketing. Everybody just perceives Hell Is Us as a souls like, and when souls likes are 90% fighting, having combat that isn't top notch is a terrible look.
>>720758564I actually skipped Hell is Us because it was wegged between Cronos The New Dawn and Silksong. Decided to go finish Cronos because I assume it was the more shorter and linear survival horror game compared to the open ended exploration game Hell is Us is going for. I'm probably skipping Dying Light the beast too since I'm still trying to finish Silksong and now Hades 2 and Silent Hill f is coming in abit over a week.

>>720769357I'm not that quick.
>>720768793>Which is funny because the general metroid/v/ania opinion is that they're the worst games on that listMassive Metroidvania fag and I couldn't disagree more. At time of release lilies was shat on but after a year or so the public opinion pivoted hard
>>720769117>how predictable you retards areWhy do you hang out with us losers then?
>Muh completion rate >Game hasn't even been out for a month>Casuals and itoddlers on /v/ are struggling with it>Tons of retards who fell for the hype likely dropped it or got bored Anon underestimates ficklefags. 100k put 500k is still a big number and who knows how many consolefags bought it. Silk Thong'll probably reach 30% - 35% on Steam by the end of the year.
>>720757983Not even, recently got done with Mortal Shell and Hell is Us combat is jus as bad. The only games that even reached DS1 peak this year were WuChang and AI limit
>The couple that are straight up impossible though are the safe behind the painting in Lethe (mandatory) and the two wierd-ass ones in the Marshes; The Hermit, and I don't even know what the other one is, but it has to do with all the movable candelabras throughout the map.No but seriously I dare someone to actually explain how you're supposed to solve any of these organically
>>72076955190% of all game completions are done in the first couple of weeks. If you haven't beaten silksong by now you were more than likely never going to.

>>720769551I bet you it will drop. The general trend is "compete the game" achievements tend to go down a month not up unless it is very long
>>720769501I like them both plenty, but I'm not going to pretend "public opinion" has shifted on them all that much, especially in comparison to the other games on the list, and especially on /v/. And it's silly to pretend they're better than most of the games listed just because they have higher completion percentages.
>>720769680Lords of the Fallen was actually pretty okay
>>720767648That's not a satisfactory justification.
>>720769298Platformers still pull numbers. It's just that they're relatively difficult to market because they're gameplay focused, and challenge platformers like Meat Boy have largely shifted towards total masocore like Jump King.
>>720769117>Crowd control>Refreshing Pretentious. You don't play many video games.
>>720761550My brother is literally the kind of retard who does this, so I understand why it made that many sales. "Game popular? If singleplayer: buy it on release and maybe one day finish it (won't if too hard for them). If multiplayer: was peer pressured into buying it and they never finish the game because they lose interest."These kind of retards that buy just because it's popular exist.
>>720761550> Normies don't like MetroidvaniaThey care in the same way they care about Mario or Sonic. They claim to like platformers but by that they just mean Mario and Sonic. Same idea here. They claim they like it because they played hollow knight but will be confused how Shadow Complex counts as a "Metroidvania"because they don't understand what the term means. >Steam achievements shows nobody bothered to finish Hollow KnightMost people don't finish games they like at all. Or TV/streaming series. Most people like things, get board with them and then come back when new thing happens even if they never finished old thing. This applies to most games and funny enough if by strange cures the games that tend to have high completion rates get worse sales on their sequels unless they have a long time apart from them. >All the people who didn't bother finishing Hollow Knight jumpedto buy and play Silksong? That's just how this works, they play for 2~8 hours, love it, then move on and don't think about it again. People like you and me that will go all in, 10 of hundreds of hours to games we love, we are abnormal. The masses buy the meal and say it tastes great to then throw half of it or more away.

>>720769238How many people do you think are going for the full completionist run do you reckon? My point is, all these dipshit devs have to do is just not buckle to sales for 2 months and if their game is decent enough, it'll get picked up at their asking price eventually. If they want to do even better, they should make an update while the silksong FOTM dies off, market that update and release it in december or something. Complaining about being put in the cuckchair because some indy game got released is pathetic.
>>720769960I play plenty, have you played this game at all? The approach to crowd control is pretty novel, yes. Not only is it rare in the soulslike subgenre (anon had to reference ds2, and it's 11 years old), but it's also pretty different because it's the game's whole gimmick that enemies are interlinked and should be obvious if you played the damn game.
>>720758269Short answer was marketing. As much as they are gaslighting you about everything they did pour a budget on this and they had three lose/lose situations on their hand: >delay it and keep pouring money into the marketing/streamers/etc>delay it and take the wasted marketing budget and risk the first day streaming agreements you have go up in smoke>release it and see if it can take the stormNo good outcomes and they all lose about the same amount of money it's just with the path they took it's the least amount of fucking up an already fucked situation.

>>720761550Because it became a big meme. Plenty of people who never even heard of or touched Hollow Knight would say "[insert game] will release before we get Silksong."And once the game dropped, they HAD to get that social capital by playing the game from the meme. So past a certain point it became popular because it was popular.

E33 always ran at 50-60 fps excluding cutscenes and the overworld.Hell is us frankly looks ugly and the open world especially in the 2nd zone was awful, a huge map and a slow moving MC is not fun for anyone. Add frequent backtracking to the mix and your game is gonna be a clear flop.
>decide to try it (for free)>it's a shitty movie game with dumb RE puzzles and token souls-lite combat slapped haphazardly into the mixthis would've flopped without the slutbug
I know I'm not a representative of gamers but I can only speak for myself:I have not played Silksong and have no intention of doing so.I was actually kind of interested in trying out Hell Is Us because they had the smart marketing of going "This is for the true brainy gamers that don't want to just be led around"Then I read the /v/ reviews and even the more positive people on it said that the puzzles aren't all that interesting, the maps are too big and that the story is disappointing and finishes poorly. And of course, that the combat was trash, but I already knew that in advance from gameplay trailers, that wasn't a shock. As a result, I played neither.
>>720779098You sound like someone who is easily influenced and rarely makes his own decisions. Don't worry IGN will tell you what to play soon.
>>720779098go back to sucking dicks on reddit
>>720779572If I were easily influenced, I'd have played Hollow Knight Silksong. Truth is I played the first game based on the positive reviews and just got bored.I'm looking forward to playing Type-NOISE tomorrow and Absolum, Keeper and Mina The Hollower within the next few months.I still do have some affinity for Hell Is Us, all things considered. Can you tell me what you liked about the game so much that you think it's worth defending on /v/? I admit that, in regards to this game in particular, I'd like to be influenced.
>Silksong>'Shadow dropped'It was publicly known to be in development and they gave a release date with enough notice that it gave time for multiple devs to delay releasing their own games. That is not a 'shadowdrop'.

>>720761550sequel to a popular indie game that eventually became a meme.
>>720780216I just think you misunderstand me. Silksong is a sequel to a game I didn't enjoy but gave a fair shake. Hell Is Us is a game I had in my sights as something that I was gonna want to see impressions on before I decided if it was worth trying out, and the impressions here were not favorable. Type-NOISE is a game that I will try for myself tomorrow. There's just different categories I put my games into, is all.

>>720780451>Do you not like metroidvanias in general?Honestly, yeah, that's part of it. I think only the top 1% of metroidvanias interest me nowadays. I'm pretty fatigued of the genre. Hollow Knight was just not there for me.
>>720780636That's fine I get it, to be honest I had to force myself to play it 3 separate times until it clicked. It doesn't really scratch the same metroidvania itch as other games in the genre do.
>>720757836Well, you didn't exactly set yourself up for success. One game is $20 and the other game is $89.

>>720757836Honestly he's right. Although as an indie developer who launched their game a little bit after Silksong (this was decided MONTHS in advance and changing it is hard)The $20 price point I'd argue is worse. It's callous as fuck, I think it’s worth talking about how damaging that price point might be for the rest of the indie scene when the game finally drops.Silksong is basically the Elden Ring of indie games at this point. The hype is off the charts, the fanbase is rabid (in a good way), and it's going to dominate every storefront and gaming conversation for weeks—maybe months. So when it comes in at just $20? That’s not just generous—that’s a nuclear bomb for discoverability. You’re an unknown dev launching a handcrafted game the same month as Silksong? You're invisible. Even if your game is great, the conversation is gone. And god forbid you price it at $20 or more—people will just compare it to Silksong and say it’s not worth it.We’ve seen this before. Big-name indies like Hollow Knight, Hades, Stardew Valley—when they blow up, they redefine expectations. And that’s cool in one way, but it also resets the floor for what a "good deal" looks like. The bar just gets higher and higher for smaller devs who don’t have the benefit of a years-long hype train.Tldr Silksong was a fucking stupid ass move by team cherry and they really are assholes for treating other developers like this. 1. Shadow dropping the game2. The godamn price point They became what we all hate the most. Asshole developers.

I think going radio silent on Silksong so long and effectively shadowdropping it was questionable but at the same time, some of the biggest games ever were releasing one after another within weeks of each other back in the day and no one said a word because everyone was going to play them all anywya. It's a very recent phenomenon that you have to courteously stagger your releases because some other poor little developer is going to get buried and miss out on their front-loaded sales forever. Silksong had no set release schedule, even they didn't know when it would come out because they're quirky eccentric auteurs for better or worse. One day they just said "guys, I think we might be done" and put the word out.

I don't really give a shit about whatever retarded arguments are happening to make this thread so long so I'm just gonna talk about Hell is Us 'cause I beat it over the weekendI like it, I think it's pretty goodCombat could be tighter, healing pulse was made way too easy compared to the demo that it invalidated items for most of the gameExploration was fun. Yeah it's all keys and locks but I enjoyed itThe puzzles could've been a little bit tougher in the critical path, though some of the optional ones were good.Main story and the lead character are a bit flat. The ending is rather abrupt and I still don't know why that guy's chin is so bigThe worldbuilding though is so, so, so good. You can tell that's where all the effort went because they knocked it out of the park.I really appreciate that this game has the balls to paint war in all its gruesome and uncomfortable truth. Not many devs are even going to want to imply rape, let alone say it flat-out. Same for killing children. There's even an infant that (You) are responsible for keeping alive (or not).I got the feeling that the history of Hadea is an allegory for conflict in the Middle EastI hope the game does well enough for them to do like an epilogue DLC, 'cause the ending and post-credits made it feel like they might've ran out of time/budget and had to cut it short.

I really enjoyed Hell is Us.Playing on hard the combat was janky as fuck either piss easy or getting stunlock into a one shotBut the exploration and world building was immaculate, some of the puzzles were pretty inspired but its true that most of them were just inputting numbers and symbols from a piece of paper you found earlier. Also the way the zones and quests are connected is a bit counter intuitive, probably could have been better if every zone was about 90% self contained. Also also the first three zones are all open worldy so when you move to the fourth zone and beyond you are dreading another open world shit but then the rest of the zones are pretty cool self contained "adventures".Its hard to recommend at full price blind (t was worth for me) but i would wholeheartedly recommend it on a sale.Sorry for talking about videogames on a blame devs thread

It adds all these new great moves and combat features which are amazing, but then it criminally underuses the potential of Ori's moveset because of how pathetic and anemic the enemies are 90% of the time, a total waste. The escape sequences are so much weaker, except for one, the sandworm, which was overtuned on release and then nerfed to the ground so it was actually never in a good spot. The balance in that game is atrocious, if you get some health cells and shards you end up extremely tanky in the lategame, the heal skill is completely braindead, and the balance of shards are a joke. Not to mention all the incredibly superfluous shards. So much weak and undeliberate afterthought shit like respawning energy crystals in bossfights.. why didnt they just make Catalyst a default mechanic? Also in WOTW you really feel limited with your slots and there should have been a way to swap across 3 without pausing the action. The backgrounds are so much worse, most of them have extreme ugly DoF that was used to hide so much detail being watered down from the game right before release for the sake of performance (read: moon became jobbers and cant optimize shit, see their latest game)1/2

>>7208098652/2Even though the game is longer, it feels less complete, because theres CUT CONTENT UP THE ASS and so many story elements feel way too forced. So many elements blatantly suffered a lot of scope reduction and ended up pretty shallow, like that little town hub, that looks like a joke in comparison to the little Bellhart from SS.Gameplay wise its just a so much less polished and bold game, and it removes some genuinely great unique features like the soul link mechanic because it was harder to make the game around it. Aesthetics wise its a 999x more contrived story (kino ending but they didnt know how to justify it). Aesthetics wise theres so many backgrounds that stick out as uglier in random corners, water often looks fucked up from underneath, it has so much more reliance on forced "LOOK AT THIS PRETTY BACKGROUND" rooms as opposed to consistent depth to them (60% of rooms look like a corridor), the menus flow less smoothly, all that shit. Didn't Hollow Knight launch for $10 and sell millions of copies? It's like they want to ignore where the hype came from in the first place.Protip for indies and the small unknown studios: follow their example and make a cheap, fun game. Instead of treating it like your job to make games, treat it like you're making a game you actually want to play yourself. Do you have an actual vision beyond trying to capitalize on trends? If not, you deserve to fail. Nobody cares that you quit your job to work on some slop game that you want to push out as cheap and quickly as possible. There are plenty of indie developers who spend all of their free time for years making a game (not a "product") and bringing their vision to life. People not in it for the money. Gamers making games. When a game has soul, you can feel it and it's not something you can just replicate. Find a better way to make money. We have enough shovelware.
>>720814709they will call gamers entitled in the same breath they personally demand control over pricing, release dates, the content of games, etc.
>>720812502DS combat is the most basic 1 on 1 thing where you hit a single button and then another to retreat, like a turn based game, playing it like two 3 year olds would play checkers. In Hell, you won't get far playing like that. The game wants you to ungabunga while also playing tactically. There are no estus flasks so you must combo the enemy to make the lost HP gauge fill up, and then you have to press another button and time it properly to get the actual health back, sorta like in Nioh with the ki pulse faggotry but for health. Combos also increase the damage you do, so the basic dark souls approach is further disincentivized. You might think the game heavily disfavors the player but they give you enough tools to survive if you play it smart. The who has 4 ability slots, starts with a spell that can distract an enemy for a pretty long time, rendering them useless. It also works on 1v1 fights giving you free charged attack or lets you initiate a combo safely. Against some linked enemies, you can abuse the distraction to fully heal for free. Like 5-8 hours in, you get your other 3 abilities tied to the weapon and an active pendant, making it more moba-styled and by this point there's no trace of dark souls left in it.
I actually greatly enjoyed this game it looks beautiful too. It's something different in a sea of shit but i could feel the cut content. I also had a strong feeling there was supposed to be much more about the alien angle
>>720757836>Soulsloppayawnnn...
>>720768346nigger im running 2k maxed on a 3060 12gb, try that in randy's garbage.
>>720768763I'm playing on a 270x at 30fps. Already better than the console experience
someone in here really said this game which means by extension all other games in it's genre are soullike...that's enough /v/ for me to last an entire 3 months
>>720810081I really do wonder what kind of stories will flood out when Moon dies. Everyone likes to talk about how all the game industry firings are HR managers and diversity agents but something has to seriously suck ass at their studios to consistently lose actual talent like that. I hope the artists at least get snapped up by a dev who knows what kind of game they want to make.
God why are indie devs such little BITCHES
>>720757983>with an incredible story.kek. Go ahead. Explain me the story. I played the game I just wanna listen to you spouting nonsence. inb4 people are capable for unimaginable violence when they are convinced they are right... like bro hell is us
>>720761893i guess souls invented dodging and parying. Also levels with shortcuts and checkpoints. Nobody has done that before. You forget that dodging does not work like in souls. Parrying does not work like in souls. But hey, you don't lvl up. So its just like sekiro am I right?
>>720767406>Okay first of all literally none of the puzzles in the entire game are that easy so let's just not do that.lmao THEY ARE ALL EASY AS FUCK HAHAHAHAHAH. Try playing Lorelai you dumb retard
>>720767782its not that they are unsolvable but they are boring. Reading though text logs after text logs just for a number sequence is fucking boring. Once...twice...5 times...its ok. But in this game its all you do
