It honestly feels like they just gave up by the time you get the final party member (last like four hours of the game btw) because they assumed critics and kickstarter backers wouldn't even make it that far.E33 on the other hand puts the narrative at the forefront and makes sure the player is consistently engaged in the story and characters first and foremost. There are moments of levity but never at the expense of the game or genre itself.
All I remember of this game is that it had a hard mode toggle patched in, and with it the combat became annoying but without it it was a cakewalk

Chained echoes is a shit world filled with godawful people but it told that messed up story so sincerely that I respect the devs for the balls to do so. For context the cuck memes are because The party learns they are all reincarnations of an advanced society and they struggle to differentiate their current selves with past selves, causing a cascade of personality shifts. The protag learns one party members previous life slept with the childhood friend in that era, who is now the 3rd party member as the sterotypal princess. Enraged and fearing it will happen again, the protag kills him. This is just one small plot point of a myriad of ways shit goes wrong
