Deus Ex is my favorite game ever and I'm a leftist. I'm always on Steam hunting for games inspired by Deus Ex. I don't mean the plot, though that's cool too, I mean the first person RPG with a focus on exploration and non-linearity that isn't open world sloppa.

I also really liked the Ultima Underworlds, System Shock 2, Arx Fatalis, Dishonored and the Thief games.
The new Deus Ex games are ok and I liked them, but man, I was just never able to get over the fact how they're not as good as the original and them being prequels is stupid.
System Shock 1 is ok but not quite for me for some reason, same with Prey (Surprised you didn't mention that one)
Bioshock is too casualized
Dark Messiah is just an action game, I liked it, but come on
Eye Divine Cybermancy is cool as hell but I'd describe it as another genre entirely
Cruelty Squad sucks
I'll try Peripeteia when it comes out of early access, but I heard it's open world sloppa. Confirm? Deny?

It's not. It has some big levels but it's not open world at all. I would wait until early access, it still has some jank. I tried prey and found it super boring for some reason.
