>Actually, wanting to a cool action Spartan man out for revenge who kills gods and fucks goddesses in a crazy hack'n'slash game is bad and toxic
>It's better to be a beardy dad who protects his son and tries to bond with him and deeply regrets his days as a cool action Spartan man who killed gods and fucked goddesses, in a very self-serious moviegame
>Oh, and your "son" might not actually be yours, by the way, but you're a good man who doesn't care and will raise him regardless :^)
Why did the new God of War games get so popular, anyway?
>>

>this new
Play the fucking games. No, Atreus is clearly his. Odin makes a jab about it and Kratos says "what your mother did was her business" in terms of a Giant/Jotnar rebellion and trolls just take it and run with it. Oh, and there's some lines about being better that get blown out of proportion as well.
To sum it up, there are not better men on this board.

Hopefully Kratos is lucky enough for this to be the case. When you raise your own child, that's just being a decent human being, the bare minimum. But Manning Up to raise someone elses kid? That's going above and beyond. They're not just step dads, they're the dads that stepped up.

There are lines that hint at and suggest this. Not confirmed, though.

The audience grew up, and became better.
You should try it sometime.

>queer Chicana
The cool thing about the word "queer" is that it doesn't mean gay anymore. Its now been tied up in gender bullshit and means essentially nothing except that the person claiming the identity wants to be seen as a sexual minority.

Hey you! Anon! I assume you're a male. Have you ever found yourself not liking traditionally male things, like sports and cars? Do you find yourself sometimes liking traditionally feminine things, like cooking or light handicrafts? Maybe you don't always want to be aggressive, dominant or a leader or independent all the time? If any of those facts are true, then you (yes, YOU!) could claim to be "queer." You could also claim to be "non-binary" for double faggot points.

It's that stupid.

That's good and all but we know full well the opposite is absolutely the kind of thing wokies would have loved to push, and all of the nods and implications definitely aren't a coincidence, if we pretend all is well and good because the final word is reasonable but each and every one of their actions point the other way then we deserve the rug pull when it happens eventually, although i'd say the damage has been done already, there's nothing left to salvage of Kratos' original image.

No! We must be Better men!

I was trying to become a better man, so I looked up the real Greek God of War for inspiration, but to my horror, he was not a better man. I don't know where to go, anons.

Fuck off. People bring up that shit so much in mockery of how the game is, in fact, not making Kratos a better man, not because they believe the shit they are bringing up really happened. The point is Kratos is not a better man in the new games, he is a worse man, he is a cowardly man, he is a weak man, written and directed by weak people.

The original games Kratos did bad things, but fundamentally his actions were just and he was honorable. The Olympians deserved what he did to them. His entire life, even when he was sworn to their service after Ares and Athena's trickery, was plagued by the Olympian gods tormenting him, his family, and his fellow Greeks. But he stayed loyal, acted honorably, kept his vows, until finally, he realized that they would not let him escape their torment even in death.

Kratos in the original series was a goddamn hero, but still a cautionary tale of not letting rage take control. He was continually shown to be a compassionate, empathetic man, pushed to madness. He mourned his wife. He mourned his daughter. He mourned his mother. He mourned his daughter. He mourned his unlikely friend Orkos. He mourned his people and the last Spartan. He tried to save Persephone, a little girl he did not even know and barely had an attachment to.

And at every single step he tried to treat honorably with every other Olympian and Titan. They always attacked him first, even though he had saved them and Olympus multiple times, and served loyally, the betrayals always came from them first.

And now in the new games we are supposed to believe what Kratos did to the Olympians was a tragedy. That he messed up. The only lesson Kratos needed to learn was to be a little more cooler headed, but the Olympians and Titan got what they deserved. Nu-Kratos though mourns because, "Waah, I killed my piece of shit dad who turned my mother into a monster and trapped my brother in Tartarus. Waaah! I should not have killed those piece of shit Olympians!"

That's the thing, isn't it?

All this "media critique" bullshit makes you wonder if the people making it even engaged with the content they're trying to make some kind of criticism of beyond finding the thinnest of straws to grasp onto and write some kind of paper about.

Fantasy, and fantasy RPGs especially, have a problem with heavy colonialist themes. Except in every single fucking fantasy series and franchise I'm aware of, the players are the native children of their land and the monsters are the conquering invaders.

Batman is a billionaire who beats up poor vagabonds and small-time cut-purses instead of addressing the systemic problems that lead to crime like poverty. Except that Batman fights fucking supervillains who are all independently wealthy and their goons and participates in charities all the fucking time.

Star Trek is a colonial narrative about subjugating and colonizing the stars. Except there was a whole fucking episode dedicated to pointing out that this wasn't the case, and actually the Federation has a whole fucking system based around ensuring that their exploration is purely for the noble goals of science and discovery, and that the alien species they encounter are engaged with on free, equal, consensual and mutually beneficial terms.

So on and so forth.
