you ever make your own game?
do you want to some day? what's stopping you? why not now?
what would it be about?
come tell me about it.
>>
I like video games but I don't want to make one
I just want to make retarded shitpost videos and show them off to people for a laugh
>>
>>720800515
actually making one might be too much work but you probably have ideas of what you'd like a game to be if you could make one. if you had the resources and could dictate the construction, like an architect designs a building.
>>
I want to and I've been working on various projects for years but I have a full time job which sucks all time and energy out of me, I can only really work every other weekend because I constantly have shit to do.

I wish I could go back in time, and not waste my entire fucking youth working this shit dead-end job and just commit to gamedevving
>>
I made my own game. You know what happened? It sold nothing. So there's no point.
>>
>>720800632
>It sold nothing.
i think if you're creating "art" with the intention of making money, you are doing it wrong.
>>
>>720800605
yeah, I've taught about directing sequels to old games I really liked, it is fun to think about
>>
>>720800715
Videogames are not art. They're products, or toys, but not art.
>>
>>720800835
let's see anon's game
>>
>>720800389
I made a short platformer once and tied physics to the FPS. It ran fine on my Athlon II x2 245 PC, but on a friend's i5 laptop it ran at like 4x speed.
That's when I realized that gamedev is hard and never done it again.
>>
>>720800389
I have many plans about devving. But I'm a recovering porn addict, and I'm weak neurotically and psychically, also lazy and my mind is lazy. Gaming gives easy dopamine, feels rewarding. Devving feels like a chore, hard to keep motivation. But still, I'm going to do it eventually.
>>
>>720800835
So you did your market research, did your marketing in time and in the right places and it still flopped? Or did you shit out a single asset flip on the steam and hoped for the best?
>>
>>720800389
I have 3 ideas for games. One is the one I will likely execute. What’s preventing me from doing it right now is that I have a ton of other shit to do, and I know it is a task that will take an immense amount of time, so I choose instead to work on it periodically when I feel inspired rather than dedicate any of my time to it right now.

I have to find work, get back in school, finish my degree, etc. Once I truly have the mental space to dedicate to it, I will absolutely get it done (assuming I don’t manage to get it done before then forever reason).

GPT has made it so that there’s basically no excuse anymore except for one’s own lack of initiative.
>>
>>720800389
I made one in school discounting game maker games. Main constraints are time and no artistic talent. I tried to make a Pokémon rip off and a Star Trek/LogH battle simulator.
>>
>>720801040
>So you did your market research, did your marketing in time and in the right places and it still flopped?
Yes I did. Marketing is expensive if you don't have connections, and I didn't have any when starting out. Making said connections is hard, and takes even more time than making the game itself, and marketing outside of that is prohibitively expensive. Unless you have a circle of discord troons around you to shill your game on the net, you'll have to expend exorbitant amounts of money on it for basically no return.
>>
>>720801170
>running a business requires investments
woooow
Show us your well researched and somewhat marketed game that flopped.
>>
>>720801268
First you say you should go into it for the "artistic merit" and now you say it's a business? Make up your mind, retard.
>>
>>720800632
Show us your game anon. Or at least tell us what it is
>>
>>720800389
>you ever make your own game?
No, not yet
>do you want to some day? what's stopping you? why not now?
Maybe. Lack of skills in art, both for visuals (sprites, models, textures) and also for audio (sound effects, music). Not now because picking up those skills would take a huge amount of time to pick up and I'm not sure I want to invest that time.
>what would it be about?
I've got a few different ideas, nothing entirely fleshed out.
>>
>>720800389
I've got a half finished, Blade Tunner esque noir Mass Effect VN set on Omega but it's not worth it to do any work in this era and I don't even like VNs, it's just that Renpy is easy and I wanted a male human on Turian girl romance plot that wasn't written like dogshit fanfiction.

i've always thought it would be cool to make a game set in the aftermath of hurricane katrina.
maybe like tarkov in terms of looting and gunplay. i think it would probably be single player though. there's something interesting about a city being suddenly and completely lawless. i like the idea of trudging through knee deep water and shining a flashlight through a flooded house, and gunning down another group of looters.

i don't know if i'd ever make this thing. i don't think i'd have the ability to make it how it exists in my mind. but i think about it from time to time and mentally flesh it out further.
>>
>>720800389
I made a Super Mario World romhack. That's all.
>>
>>720800389
Games I would want to play and make are too difficult for one man to do, much less for one who doesn't know much about programming and other things.
>>
>>720800835
You lack vision. Nobody has time for mediocre product.
>>
>>720802963
Vision doesn't sell. If you say otherwise you're a retard who has never made anything.
>>
>>720804250
It does doe.
Look at Fear and Hunger 1 and 2, Hylics 1 and 2, the Pathologic games, even point and click games like Fran Bow. All of these have a striking vision and direction, which is what mainly attracted people to them.

>Fear and Hunger 1
Was a failure for almost 3 years until it randomly blew up.
>Hylics 1
Released during the golden age of indie games when literally anything made money.
>the Pathologic games, even point and click games like Fran Bow
Not modern indies. Sequels don't count.

Vision doesn't sell in the modern market. But disposable garbage does.

Unfortunately I have been caring for my elders the last 6 years or thereabouts. I had thought I could finally make it but I was pulled back in just a few days ago. I could use a cool million upfront desu
>>
>>720805120
A game about digging a hole is more conceptually interesting within the first five seconds of hearing about it than just another rpg. Because it's a completely different concept to the stuff circulating the market right now, you can call it disposable slop but the dude that made it had a pretty strong concept of what it needed to be.
>>
I've spent a year trying to wrap my head around how C# works and practicing 3D. Maybe it'll pay off someday, maybe it won't

>A game about digging a hole is more conceptually interesting
nta but bruh there's a game called minecraft
>>
>>720801170
You haven't made a game.
>>
>>720805771
I accept your concession.
>>
>>720805753
Yeah but that game's premise is a bit different no? Besides, Minecraft also took off massively. Maybe the hole-digging-type genre needs to be explored further...

Thanks. I wanted the mechs to be a mix of 86 slightly visually and tachikomas in how they move and their freedom of movement.

>>

>what's stopping you?
Depression and low willpower.
Solo development is so bloody difficult and the thought of putting in hundreds of hours and then nobody caring about my game because it is buried under heaps of slop makes me sick.

Serial killer immersive sim

You choose your target victims by gender, class, age, race etc. You choose your killing methods, your trophies, your marks. You avoid suspicion, police etc.

Kino idea right?

Same. Pic related.
I'm going to do it again a few more times, though. You can't stop me.

If I had the skills, the passion, the team and the dedication, I would have maked a game that combines elements of Sonic the Hedgehog, mixed with the grittyness of Arkham Games.Story too big to tell.
>>
>>720810570
Shadow the Hedgehog already exists tho. Or do you mean a Spawn or Batman type dude rolling into a ball like Sonic?
>>
>>720800389
I make a lot of games. I enjoy making them. If you want to get into game development for money, though, don't even bother. Stick to crypto.
>>
>>720800389
Maybe when AI gets to the point it can model and make textures for me.
