Spray 'n' Strafe died because every single game was fucking identical and it got stale. There, I said it.
>>720802793That argument doesn't work because every year you have exactly same identical cawadooty and shitterfield pooper shooter that people still buy.
>>720802986No.Because caedooty and shattlefield aren't just 1x1 copies of their first games.Even though they are shit, they try to add variety.Meanwhile, if you played DOOM 1, you will never need to play Quake or Unreal etc, because they are all the exact some fucking game.Spray 'n' Strafe was the FIFA of FPS, because it was just a reskin on the same shit every year.
>>720803608If you think Doom and Quake play the same you might be retarded
>>720802793>because every single game was fucking identicalJedi Academy was "what if Quake had melee combat"
>>720802793Why does your image have a Resource Management Shooter and two aimslop games? What's the connection?
>>720803753If you think they dont you are a larping zoomer who has never played them.
>>720805458Quake has actual vertical movement
>>720803865>what if Quake had melee combatThere were already Dark Forces 2 and Heretic 2>>720803904>aimsloplmao this fucking board
>>720803865jedi academy was "what if Quake had gay ass faggot Rosh"
>>720803753They honestly do, the gameplay is practically identical to the point where you can finish Quake using the Doom play style. Only differences are the grenade launcher and slightly more vertical levels in Quake.
>>720802793arena shooters died because they became too different, when we've stopped acting like dishonest fetuses
>>720805668they died because they don't translate well to consolesnothing more nothing less
>>720808792Quake 3 and UT had decent PS2 and Dreamcast ports
>>720803608>Because caedooty and shattlefield aren't just 1x1 copies of their first games.yeah instead call of duty has just been of a copy of its 4th game for the last 18 years
>>720802793Quake 3 died because every mode outside of Duel sucked and was mindless ungabunga garbage in addition to needing the best hardware to "git gud" at the game. It has never revived because Quake autists want the exact same maps and the exact same weapon types with every iteration and shit in anything slightly different. Also, like CS, all the pros fucking cheat.UT died because 3 was so bad it killed the series forever and 4 never git the attention it deserved Doom 93 is still alive with the endless mods.
>>720802793yep
These games died because they had an element to it that zoomers absolutely hate - they clearly showed who is better in the match. There were no comeback mechanics - once one player dominated the map, the other(s) had a harder time doing anything than at the beginning of the match. When one player was just "one tier" better, the match would end up like 20-1 or something. Not even 1v1 fighting games do that, each round is a clear start. Not to mention actual shooters, where it's either die once, start another match or a winner of the previous duel has no advantage in the next. And of course there's a cancer of solo queue in team-based game. Zoomers won't ever admit it, but they LOVE it. They LOVE all the excuses they can make to not say the enemy was actually better this time. It's always a fault of stupid teammates, retarded engages, lame 3rd parties (in battle royale) and so on, it's never their fault. There, that's it. The clear expression of skill is what killed the genre. It still lives of course, through boomer shooters, but multiplayer will never recover, zoomers can't handle its brutality (i.e. normal, natural terms).
>>720810712>oh man you got 3 cheeky kills at the start of the match>guess i'm forever fucked and can't do anything Duel was always a shit mode. 1v1 CA was always a better test of skill. The fact you can go 3 minutes before getting a kill because you have to time the shirts isn't fun. It's boring. It's akin to that feeling in Chess, another shit game, where you have to hunt the King down into check.
>>720810712That's just poor design, lol. Even real sports don't work like that. After a goal is scored in soccer, the ball is reset to the center of the field. In boxing, there are rounds. Etc.
>>720802793cause consoletards couldn't keep up
>>720810712Dueling wasn't popular outside of the top 1% of players.
>>720809441still vastly inferior to PC
>>720802793Doom doesn't really fit in that line-up. Arena shooters died because it wasn't console friendly. The ports barely ran and without mouse and keyboard, there was no way to get into the deeper movement mechanics. Said mechanics also took time to learn and nobody wants to do that nowadays. They just want a slide button and feel instant gratification. That's why a low TTK has become so popular too. These old games we're about pick-up placement, timers, movement mechanics and finding the best routes between them. Sound and mapknowledge was so important. Good aim was worth a lot but it was never twitchy. It was about getting the right gun for the right situation. The TTK was higher but you could still wreck a fool really fast if you learned how to blow someone of course and switched to another gun to finish him off while he was tumbling or struggling to get back on track. It required strategy beyond "if I see him first, I'll win". These modern shooters just revolve around picking 1 (meta) gun and maybe switch to a sidearm once in a while. CS was the first step down but at least that has a whole utility and moneymaking meta build around it. Cawadooty is just twitch shooting the other guy first and thinking sliding around doesn't make you look retarded. It's has just all devolved into instant gratification and microtransaction nonsense.
>>720810712>t.
>>720802793all new games are identical and stale yet they are still being made.explain this, you actual nigger
>>720812164Another fucking retard who thinks "muh hard" is somehow a great replacement for actual fun. You'd know this if you actually play UT99 on the regular, the superior game where there were more fun mechanics that dogshit Quake.. There's a reason why Team Fortress was more popular. Shut the fuck up, boomer.
>>720812164Doom was a Spray 'n' Strafe,And its 360 port and Xbone port is kino
>>720811120>all boxing rounds are perfectly the same it doesnt matter if I get hit in the head ten times in round 1 none of that carries over into 2lmao
>>720812819>"muh hard"Except it wasn't hard. It was easy to play but it had the necessary depth to master it. Same goes for Unreal, only the curve was less steep. Both are good in their own right. And yes, being able to improve as a player instead of pushing pointless progression bars was more fun, you twat. >>720812885Doom wasn't mainly a multiplayer arena shooter and didn't reach the depth and precision of the other games. Doom feels more like the prototype game for the others but it's arguing semantics at this point.
>>720802793God, games were good back then. Now almost everything is gay shit for faggots and trannies.Take me back.
>>720813497>it wasn't hard>easy to play, hard to masterShut the fuck up, boomer
>>720813725Nice argument, zoomer
>>720813628Ironic because most of Q3's remaining playerbase are trans. Some of the most prolific modders and mappers in Q1 are hella trans.
>>720813801I won't argue with a cunt who jumbles words around to try and win on a technicality while saying the exact same thing.
>>720812934CS economy system unironically does a better job of carrying some sort of advantage between rounds, and it doesn't even try that hard.
>>720813897If you think Quake or contemporaries are hard games, you're shit at vidya. They weren't. Having mechanical depth instead of superficial choices and progress bars =/= hard. You could learn everything you needed in a couple of sessions but get better at it with practice through play. Instead of using aim trainers to improve your twitch shooting. But I accept your concession.
>>720814142You didn't win shit. You took what I said, twisted the words around, and tried to claim victory, you pseudo kike. Which is even funnier because I know there is a very likely probability you weren't even good at these games. >posts fucking team fortress out of nowhere that has nothing to do with the topicYeah, your boom boom brain is full of prepackaged arguments.
They "died" for the same reason that arcade games "died": players don't want pure gameplay, they want cinematic experiences with narrative where they feel like the protagonist of some Hollywood talmudic blockbuster.Half Life, which is so celebrated by so many players, was the moment when inept Western designers understood that the money was in making people feel like they were inside an interactive audio-visual experiences.
>>720814142Yes, anon, I'm sure you mastered strafejumping, item timing, spawn points, the mechancis of every weapon etc. in a couple of sessions. You absolute genuis, you wunderkind. But most people don't have quad digit IQ like you do.
>>720810712>They LOVE all the excuses they can make to not say the enemy was actually better this time. It's always a fault of stupid teammates, retarded engages, lame 3rd parties (in battle royale) and so on, it's never their fault.imagine being so up your own ass about culture war shit that you believe this is unique to a generationand zoomers were kids when arena shooters died (ie, a little bit before CoD and Halo became uber popular), but it's not as if millennials just fucking died, is it? why aren't gen x and millennials still playing and populating those games if they're so heckin based?
>>720810712Who the fuck plays these for dool mode? Average player plays literary everything but that.
>>720816339But how else is this faggot supposed to score Internet points? He has to talk about Duel because very other mode is braindead retard shit.
>>720802986First Post, Best Post also OP is a zoomer faggot who sucks cock.
>>720802793these slop games died because no one wants to play games with a fucking keyboard
>>720814427Cope. Explain minecraft.
>>720817067>snoy cope over people playing on mKBbecause ya luv sum force feedback vibrating up your buttholle tranny, right m8.
>>720814432I'm talking about the basics. Quake live has it training courses for a reason. I'm obviously not talking about item timings, spawns and map knowledge, that comes with practice. But yes, you can master strafejumping, general movement mechanics and get a general sense of how the weapons work in a matter of sessions. It's not rocketscience and anyone can learn the basics fairly fast. Stop acting as if this some mythical skill you need be taught over 5 years in a kung fu monastery. >>720814339>getting mad at a random picture on 4chinslol. lmao even. >Y-you suck at themI've played it for years, participated in LAN party contests. I'm no Rapha but I can frag. I'm not even entirely sure what words I twisted around. Quake isn't hard but it had mechanical depth, something modern shooters simply lack.
>>720817195Ironically, Minecraft only exploded in popularity when "influencers" started creating their own narratives within that world. The game in its conception attracted more attention from people here on /v/ than from children.Kids started playing the game later because they wanted to feel like they were inside the epic stories their favorite influencers were creating on YouTube.Of course, Minecraft was already popular and was the typical sandbox/creative game that works within other rules. But what really made it a phenomenon was the narrative. There's nothing wrong with liking narrative, every human being likes it, but normalfags in general are much more attached to narratives than to things like rules, challenges, skill refinement, study, training, etc.
