And then, by the time you get to the frozen area? Fatigue. I'm tired grandpa, I don't wanna run through anymore overly giatn areas for no good reason. And then, almost as if to spite me, the haligtree and farum azula are so linear and yet so fucking miserable to slog through, I regretted my life. Not to mention the frankly indecipherable string of bosses at the end of the game. Sure, I didn't read every lore item, but when one man just ripped out of another man, suddenly had a different name, and then we fight. I don't know this large stranger. Why did he do that? What the fuck is going on? Oh it's over? Fucking FINALLY.

imo the souls formula doesn't translate well to open world, in ER the map feels like a theme park rather than a world which is fine I guess but it makes the exploration awkward and the empty areas feel completely pointless. If you removed everything that isn't a legacy dungeon or a cave from the game you'd lose maybe 10% of the truly memorable and fun parts.The aesthetics are on point at least
