It seems the easiest way to play is just necromancing and having your skellies play the game for you because they don't need to gear manage. I like the way assassin plays but its skills feel way too hyperfocused or just do the same thing except a little different as an earlier one. Does barbarian get to do anything interesting?

>>720823973no, barb's not really good for that because your time to kill is generally low except for specific builds that don't make use of find item anyway.there are two primary ways to get gear in diablo 2. you either play the player economy game in multiplayer (this is the more fun and reasonable option) or you play something that is highly optimized to farming something very very quickly. generally, farming involves some form of teleport (naj's puzzler is the cheapest and easiest source, you can also get it off rares or if you want to put the cart before the horse enigma) and being able to kill something very very quickly, whether it be many enemies or a specific boss. there are a couple farms that don't really involve much killing, like act 3 superchests, in which case you'd want to focus on cast speed, survivability, and to a much lesser extent mana sustain.
I like hammerdin for beginners. You get vigor aura and hammers. Vigor make you fast, hammers kill everything even in hell. The build is super easy enough str and dex to wear your items (shouldn't be over 150) and rest in vit. Farm countess (act 1 quest 4) until you get tal thul ort amn twice. Put those in a crystal/broadsword and a paladin shield. You are a god. Skills are vigor/concentration/hammer.Another good beginner build is going fire trap assassin with burst of speed. Get ral and tir, put it in a staff and let the waves of fire consume everything. Later in nightmare at about 40-50 you respec to lightning.

Resurrected is great because it does exactly what I wish was always done with D2, shoring up underperforming builds via item and rune support without nerfing anything else, it also runs really well for a modern game.

The exception would be getting 1 point into Death Sentry, as it mimics Corpse Explosion, and if you decide you want that your test points won't be a total waste. Shadow Warrior is also nice.
