How come modern games are forgotten so quickly? It feels like this trend started a few years ago. Is it just apathy?

Even 10 years ago actual AAA games were rare, a few every month and we used to have droughts.
Now every month there are multiple games with 100M+ budgets that get 100-500 peak players.
