I'm a similar age and I would recommend SMT over this. Persona is more of a vn than a jrpg (the simplest combat imaginable btw). The music is top notch, but I'm definitely too old for school settings.

School setting aside, the main turn-off I can think of is that it's very long and overly padded, and I say that having only played the original on PS3. I can't speak for all the stuff they added to Royal.

I loved persona 3 and it's one of my 3-ish favorite games of all time and that love kinda carried 5 for me, which don't get me wrong, it's an excellent game for what it is, but even by the time it released when I was like 24 or whatever I could already feel it slipping away as not really "for me " anymore. Just play e33 if you haven't.
