Haven't played Mankind Divided for that long.
Although the more I play DX:HR the less receptive I am towards it.
>>
Deus Ex > MD > HR
Haven't played IW. MD might be unfinished and the story not as good but the gameplay of HR is absolute dogshit, with controller or M/KB.
>>
I like MD the most.

>Haven't played IW.
IW is... something else. It's 1/3rd obnoxiously streamlined gameplay so that Xbox kiddes can comprehend it, 1/3rd serious philosphical divagations about the future of mankind and 1/3rd Warren Spector going completely mental. This game is schizofrenic as fuck.

>DX>MD>HR>IW

Jensen trilogy is a pretty shit step away from philosophical themes explored in the original, so as a prequel, it comes off as being very shallow and getting only into surface issues that serve as allegories for surface-level issues in our world. Gameplay is consistently solid for the most part, though. MD plays pretty well, and HR is tolerable.

Deus Ex remains relevant to this day, boasting a good combination of emergent gameplay and an intriguing narrative, even if it started the series' trend of inhuman dialogue, where two schizos throw rhetoric at each other. IW is the only game in the franchise which continues the themes laid out by the original and has a lot of interesting things to say, but it's also filled to the brim with retarded plot points and absolutely awful gameplay.
>>
who the fuck cares no one here has actually played invisible war or the original dx
im sure plenty of you homosexuals have watch a video essay on it or something equally retarded but you never played it to its completion
why even make this thread
what a stupid fucking idea this website is

Deus Ex > HR > MD > IW

MD's mechanics were good but I never felt like I was engaging with the level as a whole. With the few actual non city hub levels there were, it felt like I was just wandering down a few hallways of enemies. As for IW, I tried really hard to give a fair shot but the tiny levels just absolutely ruined it. I remember early on being given a quest to find some dude and getting hyped up on all the obstacles I'd have to deal with only to wander in and within 20 seconds I found the guy without dealing with almost any of the obstacles. Just climbed somewhere, accidentally fell, and oops there he was. I guess I consider level design one of the most important things in these games and those two had their issues.

MD Would've been far better if it wasn't for Square Enix using their western studios for experimentation on monetization and trying to write off bad sales numbers of their dead FF brand over to the failed western games

Most people didn't play IW and MD

the people that think IW is worse than the adam jensen games are so funny. absolute sheeple.
>>
>>720832149
Yeah, "surface level" is how I would describe the Jensen games. They kinda-sorta passably imitate Deus Ex 1, but they are nowhere near as deep or intricate as the original.
>>
>>720832543
The funny thing is that HR is actually MORE streamlined than IW, even if IW got so much shit for being dumbed down to oblivion.
>>
>>720832543
none of them actually played it and are just going off of second hand info from youtubers
>>
>>720832792
Eh, I did play IW.
I still didn't like it, because that game has schizofrenia.
>>
>>720832543
nah, IW is complete ass and being made by warren spencer doesn't save it
jensen games are much more pleasant to play, even if all the shit explored here is just "augs le bad, augs le good?". i was fucking amazed by how HR translates almost everything through lenses of augs, what a toothless game
>>
anyone who says MD > HR is likely a zoomer and/or brown
>>
>>720833050
I could see how they could prefer it, it had a lot of cool things going on. I just too consistently had a reaction of "that's it?" while playing to rank it higher though.
>>
The original Deus Ex is a masterpiece, a true gem with some flaws that GMDX irons out

Everything else is just worse, and didn't understand many of the genius design intuitions

The new games didn't have the charm, the deliberately free progression and level design and the strong focus on RPG mechanics the original has

Invisible war > Human Revolution > Deus Ex > Mankind Divided

People only like the original deus ex because of the memes, it's not actually very fun to play.
>>
Peripeteia is better than all those 4.
>>
>>720833451
Similarly to people not even playing Deus Ex but loving it, people also don't play Invisible War and hate it.

Invisible War is objectively more fun to play than Deus Ex, and does a better job than Mankind Divided or Human Revolution tackling far future issues humanity faces.

For lore, Deus Ex and Invisible War are both good
For gameplay, Invisible War and Human Revolution are both ok, Mankind Divided just drops the ball, and Deus Ex is by far the worst of the four.
>>
>>720833325
This new "augmented" fork of GMDX is actually kicking my ass. I love it. Here I thought I would be able to cruise through the game on Realistic, but here I am in the warehouse mission and the game is not fucking around.
>>

>>720830654
Deus Ex > Mankind Divided > Human Revolution > Invisible War
All apart from Invisible War are at least good. If Mankind Divided were fully realised it would be the best one by far (and even then its shortness is very overstated if you do even a cursory look into its side content)

You seem to have included some unknown, unrelated game in your list.
Fixed it for you.

How do you even remember invisible war, the only thing i remember is finishing it in one day
>>
How can you niggas claim that IW has better gameplay than the original? Are you fucking retarded? Do you consider some jank to be worse than some gay ass plot with retarded factions and levels that practically have no verticality but a lot of empty areas where you just walk?

you're a projecting retard lol; played it again a year or two back.
Not that you would recognize the ending slides since you didn't play it.

>>720834438
I remember ridiculously small levels and some absolutely bizarre story.
And then the game went batshit insane and aliens in Antarctica happened Also, JC Denton is now a supervillain.

>>720834495
Illuminati ending somehow manages to end up being worse than Tong's ending if you find out all the info about Everett and his shady dealings.

Well, the quote is pretty on the nose. You chose hell.
>>
>>720834495
I have a feeling that the Illuminati ending is the only ending the put any effort in, both in terms of gameplay and later presentation.
>>
>>720834745
Nah, they were running out of money by that point, it's very obvious with a lot of RPGs of that era. The game just wants to end and drops all the fanfare. This is why Dark Age ending is just JC running through the base, and why Helios ending is JC enigmatically walking at the screen.
>>
>>720835007
Yeah, but the Illuminati ending has this cool presentation where it mirrors the intro and everything and you feel like there was some kind of idea behind it.
And then you have Helios ending where it's just a simple convo and fade to black.
>>
>>720833507
you running an llm to post this in every DX thread? trying to smear the devs or just autistic?

Deus Ex or Metal Gear Solid?
>>
>>720832543
IW is probably my biggest vidya disappointment.
>>
>>720835780
Deus Ex is a better stand alone game, Metal Gear is a better series.

They're both laughably bad as stealth games tho. DE has good level design and MGS had good boss fights.
>>
>>720835780
>Game or movie?
Difficult to say, depends what I'm in the mood for
>>
>>720832682
HR was streamlined in ways that make sense in that it transferred the RPG elements into other game mechanics. IW was just straight up stripped of everything resembling RPG elements.
