The obvious answer used to be the unemployment numbers but those are fucked now so you basically have to start seeing your friends getting hired on LinkedIn.

We have been in a recession since 2022 and no one wants to acknowledge it. Keep applying for jobs daily to be sure. I applied for 5 a day every weekday and I applied to over 500 jobs before I got my last one and the economy was actually ok then.

studying is pretty meaningless. You would be better off getting a 3.0 gpa and attending every networking event that your university offers. I'm convinced that that is the way to get the best starting job out of school. Also, befriend EVERYONE in your specific school. Like if you're going to school for finance, you better have a connection every other finance student. That shit is worth its weight in gold 10 years in when one random friend is now a managing director at an investment bank or something.

2016 to the pandemic was great. I remember getting fired in 2017 and got another job that paid more a month later. I quit less than a year after and got another job much better within a couple months and then I got my current one.

Went from $12 an hour to 140K a year in 5 years.

I started on construction. A friend told me they needed some extra hands for a job. I showed up at the job site, filled out some paperwork really quickly in the back of a truck, and got to work. I used those wages to go to college and I've just fallen upwards ever since. I'm in construction management, spending my days browsing /v/ on my phone and connecting a 6 figure salary. I haven't applied for a job in over a decade, I just get offers.

I hope that helps.

Not really.
Anyone with a brain can see how much of a bubble it was regarding a lot of things. The west hasn't had a healthy economy in a long time, partially because of how much they are relying on mass immigration to pump the fake numbers up and keep the bubble not popping, and partially because of corruption at all levels of society. But the bubble has to pop to actually fix things.
We have still never recovered from 2008 as much as people claim otherwise

That was when I entered the workforce and I still only got jobs from nepotism, you have no idea what you are talking about. It was slightly better but that is simply because it hadn't declined as much, not because it was on a better trajectory or because of good policy. It was higher on the downward trend. >Sounds like your personality is shit. Again skill issue,
More like managers kept being awful or I had bad timing. I started working at a hospital in November right before the coof swung into full force and the managers sucked and had really bad favoritism and cliques.
I worked at a couple places where a year after I joined new management took over started doing really dumb things too.
I would have stayed at a couple temp jobs though if they weren't temp because the managers there actually knew what they were doing, but only one even decided to hire me full time after the season was over and it was one where new management came in and fucked everything up.
Competency crisis is a huge factor in why everything is so disfunctional

Managers of any sort are almost all universally terrible.

At my last job, I started at an entry level position I was overqualified for since it was a night shift and it gave me plenty of time to work on my masters degree. After two years, a senior level position came open, I applied for it, and got turned down by a guy who had less education and work experience than myself, but was at the company longer than me. Ok, no big deal.

Next year, another senior level position comes up, and I get beat out by a guy who once again had less education, experience, and time at the company than me. When it happened again six months later, this time with a lady who was fresh out of college and had worked for the company for six months, I demanded a meeting with my manager. I pulled out my performance reviews, my degree, my work experience, there was zero reason why I shouldn't have preference for the position. The only reply I got was, "It's not about the years you've worked here anon."

A year later, my boss got passed over for a promotion in the same way, threw a hissy fit, and wound up putting in his two weeks notice. In his last email to the department, he mentioned it's been a wonderful seventeen years here. On his way out, I reminded him, sometimes promotions aren't about how long you've been here. I still don't feel one iota better, although even before this job I've long accepted that this is simply how the system works.
>>
>>720853021
Luck based. Not even a degree in engineering can beat it.
The worst is that most of the time, you have to face a woman that knows nothing both of you and the job, and probably is the one responsible for what was typed on the job application.

Competency crisis. Retards only promote other retards, snakes only promote snakes or people they can use.
In a way there is less social mobility than other periods of history because so much about modern day society can be boiled down to nepotism and people exploiting society instead of seeking to build something better and lasting with their own people.

oh you fucking cock sucking dipshit dumb fucking retard, you absolute dickhead woman. if you wanted a job bad enough you could simply leave that off your resume. how retarded and lazy are you, buddy? go figure you were a fucking do nothing director of whatever the fuck

Calling high only works when you don't have a fall back. I already have a job and people are generally trying to recruit me, so I ask for figures that make the hassle of switching jobs worth it.

Anon you know all this comes up during a background check right?

I don't know what your jobs were, but you should probably see if contractors are doing that same work now. In a lot of cases the Fed's work still needs to get done, so they just hired them back through an intermediary.
I was already a contractor and now I'm working alongside some of my previous buyers/tech reps.

Not anymore.

I’ve almost beaten the bachelor boss, you telling me the loot that the master or doctorate drops isn’t enough?

Those people graduated from dogshit schools with bad grades. Nobody who has a degree in computer science or engineering from MIT with a 4.0 GPA is unemployed.

(US) Federal government contacting. It's a free for all right now.

I'm changing from a $200k to a $100k job because it sounds fun and I (probably) already have enough money to live off of for the rest of my life. Feels good. Programming is easy mode even in the game industry.

I got my MBA in 2017. It gave me an edge and made me relatively successful. That said the only reason I would get one now is to waste time while the economy improves and that's if it improves.

Once you graduate you have essentially a year to get work before the degree doesn't matter anymore and you may as well have skipped college all together.

I work on a crisis/suicide hotline. Pays alright, get 28.51 ameribucks an hour as a lead, 40 hours a week with plenty of PTO/overtime opportunities.

You could argue that AI could eventually take it over, but all it takes is for one person to off themselves for it all to come crashing down with people pointing fingers at the lack of "human experience". Therapy is one thing, but outright crisis work is going to be hard to swap robots in for. We'll eventually get AI that's capable enough, but I don't see it happening for a fucking long ass time.

this thread makes for a very grim reading as a yuro (my life is several orders of magnitude worse)

Shit's grim in every corner of the world. Some spots are brighter than others, but it's still a mess across the board. Try not to let the doom and gloom of others venting make it feel hopeless. People are rarely going to talk about the successes in their life compared to the messy shit.
>>
>>720861940
you mean 20k to 10k, anon. you were never making that in the game industry my friend
>>
What are the chances it improves in 2026?
>>
>>720853021
You needed to be optimizing your efficiency on the way there. You might've gotten the required tools and skills for the boss, like the listed degree and preferred certs, but the boss also has an invisible shield that's only negated by also having amassed enough shitwork. The shitwork is completely unrelated to the boss, but you need years of it to prove you can perform things professionally.

Note that the relevancy of all three things decay rapidly, so if you go to do shitwork, you'll also need to re-up your certs by the end, so you still need to juggle things with each runback. This'll be tough, as the shitwork side quests won't reward you enough to maintain such things. Be careful, as you can also end up locked to the Factory and Retail routes if you take too long.

>Zoomers are going through the same thing we millennials did in 2008
People knew things would improve after 2008, you can't compare it to 2025. This isn't a housing collapse this is an everything collapse. No amount of manufacturing jobs can fix this, it's a total financial and spiritual death spiral at every level of society.
>>
>>720853416
I would say its worse. I remember I still could get dead end jobs at taco bell or warehouse in a week. Now its all online, they tell you to fuck off if you go in and ask and ghost your application online.
>>
the old billionaires who control the country and suck israel's cock will save us, don't worry
>>
>>720862602
what the fuck do you mean, dude? you can still get dead end jobs anywhere. i tested it out just the other day, they wanted an interview like an hour after i applied. i just wanted it to supplement my current full time job, but yeah, no they don't ghost you online man. even non dead end jobs i haven't gotten ghosted. do you jack off a lot or something and is your luck all fucked up because of it?
