>be square>release a bunch of games>all following a rough formula>each is a huge financial success >several games turn into some of the most beloved pieces of media of all time>decide to NEVER FUCKING EVER UNDER NO FUCKING CIRCUMSTANCES E V E R to make another game like them Why?
>>720949481>SE makes a new "old" FF game>it's mid>everyone hates itThis is 100% what would happen if you got your wish
>>720949625This is already what's happening with their shitty action combat ubislop.
I mean, they kinda did.
>>720949794Good game that could have been a masterpiece of it wasn't for a host of super retarded decisions.
>>720949481While many of those made a lot of money, the company (Squaresoft) was actually losing money because of bad management. They literally had to go to another company (Enix) and beg for a merger to survive. Enix said no for many years. But eventually caved and said yes after Kingdom Hearts and FFX saw Squaresoft actually in the green for the first time in years. But Enix still ended up buying up a lot of Square's debt and becoming the surviving company. And then what did they do after they merged? They put the idiot managers of Squaresoft in charge of the combined company. Who proceeded to repeat the same mistakes for a decade. They finally hot ousted in 2012.>>decide to NEVER FUCKING EVER UNDER NO FUCKING CIRCUMSTANCES E V E R to make another game like them They did. Many times. 4 Heroes, Bravely Default, SaGa, remakes of the old games, etc. And multiple FFTactics sequels. And you can say FF12 and on were the natural progression of the FF8/10 style of linear areas and cinematic triggers. I know you won't consider those games to be as good as the old ones. And you shouldn't. I'm just saying, FF was already massively changing in FF6 and on compared to "classic" FF. And it's a combination of who worked on the games, bad management and an obsession with emulating Hollywood trends.
>>72094948112, 13, 14, and 15 were commercially successful. Critical success is irrelevant to them because to them its a business. They could follow the same old formula and make better games but audiences lost interest in jrpgs in the mid to late 00s, and square enix has chosen to move on, understandably. You can also move on, this isnt the only company making jrpgs. This isnt the only jrpg series. Btw e33 was a fluke and only possible because of the lack of competition both from other games, and other jrpgs. But if square attempted it, the old fans wouldnt return, the new fans would be alienated. A turnbased or atb ff would flop.
>>720949481pretty much every successful company through the 90s and into the 2000s
>>720949625If it's as good as Octopath 2 I'm satisfied.
>>720951780> but audiences lost interest in jrpgs in the mid to late 00sNo they didn't. Other JRPG series kept rising in sales. Final Fantasy was just losing sales. And idiots in the media and people like you think Final Fantasy = all JRPGs.
>>720949625I think a game trying to be like classic FF, meaning FF3-5, would be very successful. But only if they captured what made the old games good. The problem is, they would just make a game with the modern art style, combat and quazi realistic graphics, then tack on a job system. And claim "look, we're appealing to the old fans!" Basically, the Star Wars sequel version of Final Fantasy.
They made two more FF Tactics games and a bunch more TRPGs that aren't Matsunoslop and FFXIII is clearly trying to be like FFX but collapsing under the weight of its Matsuno induced development hell though?
>>720949794Octopath is the better JRPG
>>720949481FFX killed the series why is it in the pic
