Why is Bill Gates so evil?

How long does W10 have until it's compromised? A couple months? A week? A day? A few hours?
>>
I don't care. I'm sticking with Windows 10 until Microsoft makes a new version of Windows that doesn't suck ass. I'll wait as long as it takes.
>>

A literal day, not joking

what does no support mean?
does it mean they just won't update it anymore or does it mean you'll be forced to update AGAIN
god I'm getting so fucking tired of these NIGGERERRRSSSS
>>
>>720977348
all of microsoft's OSes have been compromised on day 1, windows 10 probably isnt different.
>>

What does support ending even mean?

Realistically what will even happen if I keep using 10 after support ends?

>Realistically what will even happen if I keep using 10 after support ends?
viruses, not getting performance updates, lots of apps not working, direct shit not working in new games, EAC refusing to work etc
>>
>>720977425
No security exploits will be patched which means you have a higher risk of catching virus
>>
I skipped windows 10 entirely. I had a shitty laptop with win 7 and got win 11 on my new pc.
>>
>>720977397
It just means no updates, but even that is only half true. They just frame it like that so you switch to 11.

Fuck W11 I have to use it for work and I hate it
The only good thing is the Windows Explorer having tabs which is useful but that's it
>>

Use MAS and get 3 more years of updates for your windows 10 pro.
>>
>>720977425
Nothing, I stayed on windows 8 for 5 years or so after end of support and nothing happened. If you have a version older than the 2022 one you won't have forced updates anymore (which is good).
>>
>>720977541
>As in they can brute force a virus just being online or will the usual don't download anything suspicious and don't get virus method I've used for years be enough?
sites that you visit have tons of scripts that can be malicious to your PC, even images on gooogle
>>
>Processor isn't currently supported for Windows 11
Well shit. I'm too broke to afford anything new.
>>
>>720977541
Think about it this way.
Every time you've tried to download something that windows defender blocked or windows contained a suspicious file you've encountered previously is when you'd possibly be in trouble.

So if your methods of diligence mean you've only had 1 or two of those for years then you should be fine.
An antivirus, script blocker and don't go clicking on random websites like a normal person should be fine.

Just remember that we live in a society and because W10 support is going down people leap on the opportunity simply because it's there.

I will not install an OS that saves AI annotated screenshots of my goon sessions. Microsoft showed their hand. I don't give a shit how optional it is and how it's disabled by default. You twats constantly "accidentally" enable new features or fuck with default programs and shit.

I said this in /g/ thread and I say this again here - I have laptop with Win11 at work and this OS is complete disaster.

>everything - UI, Start Menu, everything - lags visibly, annoying as hell. Some /g/ posters suggested it might be related to how system is trying to connect to some MS services with internet, which adds even more grim implications (and what if I lose connection?)
>16gb in laptop and 8gb is already taken on standby after restart
>Start Menu cannot be restored to Win10 style anymore because reasons (registry edit no longer works, these fucks at MS probably removed Win10 legacy menu all together), Win11 style is awful phone-like garbage with tons of empty spaces after removing "recommended" section and tiny icons
>JavaScript UI probably because jeets don't know anything else
>fuck Copilot, fuck AI, stop pushing it EVERYWHERE
>tabs in Explorer is awful idea, fuck that
>all UI third party software will potentially gets completely broken with updates and all seems to be keen on restoring Win7 style, I honestly prefer Win10 style

Fuck that noise, Win10 was good OS and I'm tired pretending otherwise.

Arch really isn't all that different from any other version of Linux, it's just updated more frequently and has a fuckhuge user repository you can get just about anything you need from, which is why it's usually recommended for gayman. You can just download a pre-packaged distro like Manjaro (the specific distro doesn't really matter all that much, just pick something popular and well supported) that comes with KDE and rice to your heart's content.

I know that windows has conditioned you to be scared of the update button, but on linux it generally means your programs work better and it doesn't go randomly fucking around with all your settings. The long term support distros usually tend to be more trouble than they're worth when it comes to something like gaming that benefits from having all the up to date shit, from what I've found.

Just like with Windows 7, all it takes is google to drop support for chromium. Even people with win10 IoT will have to upgrade the computer. And knowing how much faggots google pajeets are, that's going to happen soon after the drop of support.
Sucks because the generic win11 motherboard drivers for old hardware has a wide range of problems. In my computer, even skipping/patching the tdm bullshit, win11 does not detect the secondary hard drives.

as long as you aren't a retard you can run windows 10 for ten more years. end of support doesn't mean much.

Windows XP had an actual critical vulnerability and Microsoft released a Windows Update to fix it, long after support had ended for WinXP. Why? Because millions of PCs still had XP installed and MS don't want them all to turn into botnets, and then some reporter ask them why they didn't patch it even though they knew about it ("end of support" might be valid but it doesn't look good when your company is the size of MS).

Unless your processor is REALLY REALLY old, there's programs you can download to check your computer's actual ability to upgrade. you will be switching one way or another down the line as gaming platforms and games themselves will drop support for win10. like they did with win7
>>
>>720977425
Earlier today I saw a thread of a Win7 anon complaining Space Engineers stopped working for him after it updated, so probably something like that. Won't be able to play new games or games that are still being updated in about a year after support ends (that's how long it's been since Steam stopped supporting 7)
>>
>>720979546
Plenty of games still have to be fiddled with to work properly. Retards like to pretend you only need steam and proton to make every game work but it's far from the truth. Also, the more obscure the games you play, the less likely you are to find ready made fixes for it, which is also true for issues with linux and your hardware.

My experience so far has been that games are either completely fucked by an anti-cheat/drm and there's nothing you can do about it or it isn't and it works with very little to no fuss (some more fuss was called for on an Nvidia card but switching to AMD made a lot of issues disappear). I haven't found any old/obscure/weird/pornographic games that proton can't run and I've stopped looking up non-multiplayer games on protonDB before I buy them because over the years I've started to assume that everything will justwerk and haven't been burned yet.

Aside from that there's a bunch of features that I like and maybe a few things that were more convenient on windows, but the biggest thing is that I don't think I can go back to windows after having an OS that just does what I fucking tell it to do. It doesn't change settings unless I tell it to, it doesn't update unless I tell it to, it doesn't annoy me with notifications unless I tell it to. I can have shit the way I want it without having to jump through a bunch of hoops to wrestle back control over my machine, it just does that straight out of the box.

Older games work better, no need for additional dll files or patches.
Dynamic sampling rate switching meaning it doesn't scale everything to one sample rate but switches to the one natively used by the audio file. Very nice
Doesn't fucking bombard me with notifications.
One command updates all applications instead of needing to launch them and update one by one.
>worse
HDR support on some games is nonexistent.
Modding can be a pain at times.
GE-Proton runs 99% of games but that 1% can be annoying to get working. Muramasa took me like an hour but that's an extreme example.

Playing any vidya with kernel level drm but you shouldn't be installing and playing shit that tries to install what's basically a fucking virus on your computer.

NTA but I assume shit like installing particular libraries or dll files. For Soukou Akki Muramasa I needed some particular dll files used for audio processing or the cutscenes would freeze the game. Most of those can be installed via winetricks/protontricks and it's one click but the difficult part is knowing which ones you need.

EndeavourOS or CachyOS. Cachy is better imo since it has a dedicated gaming package that just auto installs everything you need for playing vidya and is just easier to set up.

How the hell am I the ONLY person in all of fucking 4chan who knows how to properly configure Windows 11 to work amazing well?

O&OShutup10
Revo Uninstaller
Bleachbit if you fuck up and forget to use Revo
Wise Registry Cleaner to make you feel better about your registry (mostly pointless)
Malwarebytes Firewall to have full control over what is sent over the internet
Shut off services you absolutely don't need. Manual for those you're not totally sure about (another thing not really needed unless you can't afford 32GB of ram which is like $60)
Cntrl+Alt+Del and disable startup apps for fast startups

And make sure to go into control panel>system security>backup restore>create a system image and backup everything on external drive just in case

I have Win11 on three PCs (gaming, work, and HTPC) and all work amazingly well. The last two are on mini PC (beelink and Minis Forum) and both are amazingly fast. Even bought my 70yr old mom one for Xmas so she could take advantage of all the piracy movies/tv shows I get for her. She's had absolutely zero issues.

Seriously? What's everyone's problem with Win11? Are you all just not smart enough to configure it?

Slowly, things will stop working with the system as new protocols and such are introduced and migrated to.

I was on Win7 up until a few months ago, and am only switching off because Steam changed compression algorithms causing "corrupted download" and "content unavailable" errors on downloads/updates, even if the game itself worked previously.

Prior to that, something in a lot of websites would crash the chromium based browser I was using, but not Firefox.

Trying out Linux, and usually decent documentation about getting a game to run, if its older/standalone. Steam does a lot of heavy lifting if its on there, but eh.

Other option is to figure out how to hack things into the OS you prefer, though that requires a degree of technically knowledge and willingness to risk bricking things.

>>
>>720982708
Vista was garbage so people had reasons to sit on XP but 7 was straight upgrade. 8 was weird experiment when MS genuinely thought that touch screens and tablets are the future, 8.1 was attempt at fix this but barely worked. Win10 was once again straight upgrade and worked fine for quite long time.

Win11 is garbage and downgrade in many aspects so it's natural people don't want to switch. Win12 will be even worse since MS have absolutely no idea why people dislike Win11 and refuse to listen (as evidenced by how they keep trying to push Recall, now in "improver and safer" version while people quite vocally inform them how sole idea of taking screenshots of people desktops is at its core something fundamentally wrong) while still riding on AI bubble and desperately trying to capitalize on it somehow. Latest investors, God forgive me for using this word, slop is about "truly personalized system" so they try to shove AI everywhere. Hell, one of their guys even claim that in next 5 years people won't be using keyboard and mouse anymore and only mic to tell AI assistants what they want to do. It's all investors bullshit but they genuinely have no idea what direction to take.

There might be a buisness for devices like these. Something more dedicated as a shield.

Done. Works with lutris as well. Ge is better than stock proton. If you want stock then you can download the newest version directly through steam in game compatibility settings.

Done. And remember to download winetricks and protontricks as well.

are you tech illitarate?

Download and install Steam from Valve's website
After installing, let Steam download and install the required files. You will later see an error saying "Steam is no longer supported on your operating system version"
Navigate to Steam install directory (default location: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam")
Delete all files in the "package" content folder
Run Steam again, and the client should be able to download the proper Windows 7 client.
And that's it! Login to your account, and it should now work!
>>
>>720983762
if you have wine installed you can double click an exe and it will run it, if it's an installer it will let you install it
this may well be enough to install most GoG games, but you're eventually going to need to learn more to get some games working

It means absolutely fucking nothing. It's pretty much corporations trying to force you to switch to the newer thing, with more built-int spyware, telemetry and other shit.
You can still use windows 7 and be completely fine. You will never get "hacked". If someone gains access to your account that's always because of a database leak which has nothing ot do with your own computer. And no, even the newest, freshest system with the most recent updates won't protect your PC if you go to a scammer website, download shit from there and then run it. No system is going to protect from stupidity.
I am infuriated by niggers who know nothing about computers and buy into this whole "YOU'RE LE VULNERABLE!!! UPDATE NOW!!!" pile of bullshit.
The only disadvantage of running an older system is that some developers might artificially gate their games behind windows updates, for example Wo Long does not work under some LTSC systems. But that's literally it. The probability of getting a virus will not be higher with an older, unupdated system.

Windows works when you first install it then starts to crap out after enough updates
Linux works after you spend 1000+ hours learning the in and outs of not just its OS but the nature and functions of every part of a computer from the BIOS to hardware to drivers etc. Linux has the highest skill ceiling. Great for those with the time but I just wanna install steam and play some damn TF2 for fuck sakes. Doesn't help the community is pretty hostile to newcomers. Imo the problem with Linux is that using it your hobby quickly becomes Linux itself, which is a fine hobby to have but it sucks if you wanted to do anything else.
Setting up basic web browsing machine is easy but who the fuck even has a desktop for it now and driver support for laptops is meh. Just buy your grandma a tablet and save yourself the effort.
If you want to do any "productivity" you'll quickly discover that FOSS ones are just worse and have format compatibility issues and commercial ones don't run on it, gaming still sucks and is way too much effort. You can't just change the OS, you'll have to move top the whole bubble and it will be hard to interact with people outside of it.
There's just no good use case for linux desktop outside of some kinds of software development, but even then, a lot of more specific tools can still be windows only or your users are windows anyway.
>>
>>720977541

I genuinely have no idea what people are doing when they say they have problems every update.

Yeah, it literally does. I guess my only real complaint is that HDR is dogshit and Windows STILL doesn't have a robust support for multi monitors.

Only reason someone’s still on 32bit Win10 in 2025 is 'cause they’re either running legacy office PCs that haven't been upgraded since Obama was in office, or they’re masochists trying to get old-ass games running on native hardware. Nobody sane is booting a 32bit OS unless they're chaining together 2GB sticks in a toaster build or resurrecting a Netbook from 2009.

>>720995787
Windows XP was Swiss Cheese when it came to security practices. Not a good argument. I'd be more impressed if 7 is pwned in minutes as that's the one where they started to try to add security past UAC to it.

That's because IOT LTSC is the least shitty win 11 version since it has less bloatware. With regular 11 you have to debloat or it's borderline unusable.

Are you retarded? English isn't my first language, but I still default to it on everything, from BIOS to software. I use a bunch of software that doesn't have any translations at all - having a mix of languages in a system is obnoxious as fuck and looks awful aesthetics-wise.
Googling for problems is easier in English, documentation is written in English first and foremost, etc.

This. With Windows 7 it happened in the first week after support ended, and was such a huge problem due to all the systems still out there that hadn't updated to a supported OS yet - that MS had to cave and make updates available to solve the issue, regardless.

This is probably why they opened up extended support to consumers on Windows 10. Not from the good of their hearts, but just so they can claim "yeah; if you follow these guidelines you can have your updates - so we're not obliged to give them to you for free outside of established protocol and channels. Or obliged to contain the situation. You all have your solution. Use it."

Which basically means tying yourself to a MS account and Azure usage. The one thing most Windows 10 holdouts specifically DON'T want to do. I.e. MS knows EXACTLY what it's doing here to maximize their gains from how this whole ordeal will -- note: WILL, with near-certainty -- play out.

The latest w10 update made my pc start hanging and blue screening out of nowhere. I'm almost certain they have a killswitch set up for every w10 user to brick their PC and force them to change operating systems. They cant actually expect anyone to voluntarily switch to the new botnet OS otherwise.
