Now that the dust is settled, can we admit that Expedition 33 is an overrated disappointment?

The presentation is fantastic, the cutscenes, music, the prologue, the premise of the gomage, the expeditions, the Paintress.

But beyond that it all collapses. 90% of the game is running around and killing random mobs. Your companions rarely talk or participate in the story and are entirely forgotten by the end. There aren't many interesting interactions, choices, quests, area or region sub-stories. Compare that to say DAO, where each area has its characters, quests, lore, factions, and acts a self-contained story. Here, the whole game is one big MacGuffin chase that fees lonely and boring, with a severe lack of meaningful content.

By the time the infamous twist happens, you don't have many reasons to care for the world, the companions, the expeditions, and post-twist you have practically 0. The Dessandres drama is ok I guess, but the game feels disjointed. Composed of a broken expedition half and a broken Dessendre family drama half, where neither feels satisfying or worth caring for. And while the combat is fun at first, when it's the only thing you do for the entire game, it just gets very very boring eventually.

TDLR E33 is basically the definition of style over substance
