What are you doing with your PS3 in the current year?
>>720986047WarhawkStill alive and well
>>720986047Waiting in a box for the next time I want to play a PS1 or PS3 game
>>720986047Watching pirated anime

>Can't install linux on playstation anymoreRemember what they took from you.
>>720991442>1760 PS3 Consolesthat I'll be 880k loss, plus 1 million lost in unrealized revenueThank you US Air Force.
>>720986047Didn't Korea find a way to re-purpose them for driving guided missiles? Or was that PS2s?
>>720986359Woah nostalgia nvke
>>720986047I can already guess the skin color
>>720991678>Doubting the power of THE CELLKen Kutaragi will end you
>>720986047collecting dust
>>720986047I remember when the PS2 first came out there was a shortage of them, and a rumor was going around that it was because Saddam Hussein was buying them all up to link into a super computer to run his WMD program
>>720990469stop saying this in every thread faggot find a hobby
>>720990992yeah you were pretty dumb for buying the real nogames machine
>>720986047Gonna play this
>>720992247He got it said to him once, now he's gone loony
Does this actually work? You can just connect a bunch of PS3 and they'll do parallel processing or whatever it's called?
the last snoy console with games
>>720986047I just repasted mine (white super slim) and set it up, it's now pasted and immaculate inside, SSD installed.
>>720992606You probably do have to write some custom software as well. Even if this does somehow work, there's no way it works straight out of the box. At that point, however, I do have to wonder why not just use a bunch of PCs instead, as PS3 is basically 20-year-old hardware at this point.
>>720992606It doesn't "just werk"It would take a janky, jury rigged system to get them to communicate with each other, on top of whatever custom nightmare OS spin off they programmed to run the thing. You could then maybe process some stuff with it across the multiple multicore CPU's, but as I understand the PlayStation's hardware was a nightmare for regular video game programmers to deal with, now your juggling a few thousand of them, trying to get them to play nice with each other.
Gonna start Zone of Enders Collection HD and maybe Sonic Unleashed.
I keep it on my battlestation ready to use when my mood takes me. Must say plugging it into my oled screen means said oled does a lot of heavy lifting visually.
>>720991442Imagine if a year or two after somebody updated the consoles after OtherOS was removed
>>720992154No the idea was that they were taking the chips from them to build missiles
I will play black flag on PS3 instead of my PS5.
>>720993370Incorrect, the PS3 Phat originally gave you the option to install Linux.
>>720990469keep saying this in every thread chad makes me laugh
>>720986047>We won't throw their ashes to the heartless sea
>>720993981What flavor of Linux lets you use 10,000 CPU'S in parallel?
>>720994964The flavors that run all of the giant server clusters in the world
>>720995015Not the same thing. The PS3's are all being run as one singular giant machine, not as a more modern style of cluster.Did Docker or Kubernetes even exist at the time?
>>720990469i am personally ambivalent to whether or not you continue to post this in threads
>>720992606yeahttps://youtu.be/GSJtqGmDI3c?si=xAqbB80Zlin_YgeW
>>720986047If you don't have a fully working CECHA01 hooked up ready to play RapeLay. You're not a real /v/tard.>>720991849That was Iran I think, Koreans built their own super computer from sticks and rocks.
>>720995236Thats not how it works. Most "Supercomputers" even back then used job scheduler systems like Cray or SLURM to send tasks to computing slaves which typically ran the same OS as the master scheduler. You are thinking mainframes. Clustered computing and job sharing systems are almost as old as UNIX itself.
>>720986047>What are you doing with your PS3 in the current year?playing awesome games such as >folklore>if you get the move (or better yet the gun attachment) time crisis and house of the dead for in-home arcade experience>toro let's party>yakuza dead souls>demon's souls>siren blood curse>eternal sonata>lollipop chainsaw uncucked version>tales of xillia 1/2>armored core 4/4fa/5>heavenly sword>dante's inferno>mgs4/legacy collection>drakengard 3>initial d>ar tonelico 3>3d dot game heroes>tokyo jungle>ranko tsukigime's longest day>gow ascension, it has working online>the darkness>motorstorm>midnight club LA>the last guy>eat them>ridge racer 7>wipeout hd>puppeteer>army of two>skate 3>resistance>killzone 2 (you can skip 3)

>>720986047Its collecting dust while emulate des once a year Pos console deserves nothing more
i kinda regret not picking the 10 dollar ps3 last time i saw at flea market but the seller didn't even know what it was or if it was working.
>>720997226Rpcs3 is zero dollars, paypig retard
>20 years old>store still online>Sony japan only stopped servicing PS3's in 2022It's still not retro.
>>720997425i got an i5 8400 doesn't run all that well. But you're right. i do plan to switch over 7800x3d or 9800x3d (sometimes they are around the same price range because supply and demand lol)
>>720997656What is that for?
>>720992320why are you trying to imply that i have a ps5?
>>720997727likely some silly school project
>>720986047it's still hooked up for when I feel like sitting down and trying to beat Drakengard 3's final bossor if I ever feel like starting MGS4
>>720986047Playing all the exclusives that are doomed to stay there foreverI don't have a ps3 but that's what I would do with it
>>720986047Im playing batman arkham origins. I finally got the cold heart dlc.
A Beowulf cluster is not a supercomputer.
>>721000000Lame get
>>720986047Can I have a couple of those Ps3's let's say 10 of them

>>720986047playing guitar hero with my gf
>>721000842And just like that it is
Watching movies mostly since it's too easy to just copy a video file to USB, pug it in and play.Occasionally revisiting classics also. Went on a MGS binge last month, unfortunately the disc drive started fucking up in the middle of MGS4.
>>720996261>if you get the move (or better yet the gun attachment) time crisis and house of the dead for in-home arcade experienceFuck yeah mein negger, getting druk and playing light gun vidya is top fun.>siren blood curseKinda want to replay that
>>721000515>Blindly trusting AI I bet you'd drink bleach if AI told you to.
>>720997656>>720997727back in the day, the processing power of that cluster would have been significant
>>721000000WITNESSED
>>721000000SEEN
>>720986047Nothing, it's been sitting on a shelf for years. There are still a few PS3 games I'd like to play but I'll most likely play those in RPCS3 for the vastly improved quality and performance.
>>720991678Alternative super computers cost billions of dollars.
>>720997656i wonder if marketing this use case without it being a hilarious eyesore is why they switched from external to internal HDDs before releasing the console outside japan.
>>720986047My fat PS3 has the yellow light of death which makes me sad. I got a super slim one with the intent to mod it, but I've been super lazy and haven't done it yet.
>>720986047BD player, Movian and Netflix. RPCS3 plays all the games I try, at better resolutions and framerate, so no reason to game on it.
>>720993269>At that point, however, I do have to wonder why not just use a bunch of PCs insteadI think it's just to say "I did this thing" to probably test his skills. Like running Doom various things.
>>720988246folding@home at gt 730 hashrates
>>720991678It was cheaper than comparable super computers at the time, some universities did the same. Don't forget part of the price was subsidized, consoles are sold at a loss.
did the govt actually use PS3 back in the day because of the power of THE CELL?
>>720995236nigga you just need a RJ45 port and a job scheduler
>>721006049for some very specific applications, yes
>>720992984>fell for the ssd in a ps3 meme
>>720986047>all of the dust prints on all of themlel

>>721000959where can I get a gay friend that's good at videogames
>>721000000what can you even do with that shitI always found the idea intriguing and kinda fun but what do you even do after setting all that shit up>get a loud of my super computer now I can.................. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........... compute prime numbers I guess???
About to open a sealed ps3 game and play it on the PS3.
>>720988246Crazy how no one replying gets the joke.
>>721013013which gaemu anon-sama
>>720986047It's in a closet collecting dust. I pulled it out years ago after they managed to hack newer models and I played the Tales of Vesperia English patch for a little before stopping and putting it back in the closet. There's nothing I really want to revisit on the PS3
>>721013184Ass creed brotherhood
>>721009124What meme? SSD in a PS3 is fantastic! XMB is snappy and responsive, games load faster, system runs cooler, and less noise so I can really enjoy the sounds of your mother chocking on the entirety of my cock and balls
>>721013536>inb4 ubisloppaenjoy anon, I got softer over time towards that shit especially first far cry and ac entriesI would like to revisit black flag one day and unity, the shitstorm at the time of release was insane
It's in the closet, the disctray broke
>>720994964The upper CPU count limit of Linux is 4096. This could probably be patched to be higher if you had a machine with that many CPUs, but upstream doesn't support that.
>>720986047im playing demons souls right now
>>720996261I'm basically using mine as a glorified PS1 and PS2Praise the CECHA
Hmm Might dust off SCIV this month and see if I can climb the tower of souls in any measure with my fucking terminal case of stick drift.
>>720991442>Can'tCan, if it can do cfw, not hen then you can linux it. not sure about superslims
>>721000000Ur mom is a beowulf cluster
