What I'm in for?

Serious city building
>>
kino city building action

Loved that game, but I learned that inter-city business was needed to thrive and for a long time I tried to survive alone
>>
Looks like a video game, chief.

Top tier jazz fit for a peaceful Sunday afternoon
Its the most "Sims" but less "SimCity" of the original quadrology. It's the one you play for the aura, the charming graphics, charismatic characters and amazing music, rather than the technical part of city management.
Which is funny because Will Wright had no direct involvement since he was working in The Sims 1, but the team would constantly pester him with questions and asking for approval, by his own words.

Not drastically but they're both pretty much the pinnacle of the genre. SimCity 4 also has a kino soundtrack, feel free to jump literally anywhere in this video and get an instant masterpiece.

Yes, traffic and roads in 3 are very simplified and abstracted, you can build literal roads to nowhere and this suffices. In 4 there's a huge focus on city planning and traffic management, unfortunately unmodded it's a bit jank at times.
>>
Was 3000 the good one or was it 2000?
>>
>>720994831
Also, nta but how do I start my journey with SimCity? Wont literal first version too old to play?
>>
I don't really get the point of city builders. You just slap down some infrastructure, draw out some districts, wait for them to fill up while your budget rises, then do it again until you've covered up the map. I get that they're sandbox games, but can I get something in the box besides more sand?

3k has specific challenge maps that are fun, basically a mission mode.

I remember getting 3000 unlimited at a book fair in grade school. I had no idea what I was doing and just placed monuments everywhere and my cities wouldn't ever last more than a year. There would be like six statues of liberty and a few, uh, whatever the one in Chicago is from. Chrysler building? Idk. Still spent a huge amount of time playing it. Sorry for the blog.

I was gifted Sc4 when I was 15 or so, I remember enjoying it but getting frustrated as I couldnt "grow" the cities organically. I redownloaded it a year ago and I agree it's a nice game, but do the planning for a huge city gives me headaches - and I've read there are mods that turn it into almost a city simulator more than a game.

I also concur the Sims 1 and maybe 2 are great and have a nice atmosphere but I never could get into 1 for lack of "in-game objectives" (I'm that much of a retard) and when trying 2 and 3 I always end getting depressed as the fucking sims end having much more fulfilling lives than me.

That would be "3000 Simcities", not "Simcity 3000", o ignoramus.

I really wish 3000 had the neighbour/area thingy system the PC edition had, and the first person driving system the PlayStation 1 had.
As a kid I had both 3k on PC and 2k on the PS1 and would go back all the time just to drive around my cities

a game with practically no game over state.
my town has been nothing but potholes and newly built heavy industry that will dissolve within 2 years because of the ulta-acidic rain.
I've made like $6,50 profit over the past quarter century so I guess I'll keep it going at this pace, no need for change.

Both are good.

Of the four Maxis games (the good ones), start with Sim City 2000. It's the first game buffed to perfection, simple to play but has hours of depth. The first SC is also a classic, but once you play 2000 it's a novelty at best. You're better off dicking around the SNES port and then seriously playing 2000. Also: Priscilla

Sim City 3000 is like a soft reboot after getting delayed for years, but it's also not too bad. But if you want the essential Sim Cities, just skip to Sim City 4: Rush Hour, which like the first two games takes its predecessor and perfects it.

Sim City 2013 doesn't exist.

>Is SimCity 4 drastically different from 3000?

3000 is peak, 2000 is really close. Sim City 4 is arguably the best from a gameplay perspective but it isn't anywhere near as good as the previous 2 when it comes to soul. You can really tell EA starting to strangle Maxis in 4.
