Been setting up version control (gittea, locally hosted on my NAS) and making notes for the most part, I did manage to get a primitive first person hands/arms model with animations done but I think I'll put "first person specific" animations on the back burner for a bit, third person ones are weird enough and I have a lot to prototype/figure out before that level of clarity even matters.

I've gotten a perlin noise based terrain mesh generator going at least, I can use that for generating playable "areas" of a larger world map. I'd sort out the UV scaling to not look like shit but I'm extremely tired right now so I'd rather just write random lore blurbs and try to come up with valid ideas for the rest of my game.

Working on a little devil imp guy. There will be two versions of him. One version is he will be able to fly above ground (Usually in place) and shoot fireballs at you from his trident. The other version is the same thing except with goggles and no wings, and he will be swimming underwater, chasing you if you get too close. He isn't textured or animated yet (This picture, he is borrowing one of the main character's animations).

Progress is consistent. After playing through the finale, I decided to refactor parts of it, which is occupying my time right now. Once that's done, I'll move into game-wide polish work before beginning a second round of testing.

I broke myself into jail a little with how many branches were possible from the story, but I'm keeping a handle on it thanks to some wireframes I made earlier in production. Never skip on documentation, anons; it might seem like a lot of wasted time, but it's there for you when you need it.

I moved my dev machine to linux and it's almost scary how well it works. My game was set up on a secondary drive in windows so I could just mount it, install the linux cli packet for the engine and run it. I'll need to replace webkit with Chromium for the, but I already knew that.
I haven't tried the same trick with games, but fresh installs work just fine.

Only big issue right now is my drawing tablet, I had completely forgotten how much I customized that. I'll need to re-do all of that through the crappy UI.

I love the hell out of that book. On top of teaching the proper animation techniques, it's also how I learned to draw hands properly.

Similar story here. Started learning to draw at 32. I'm okay at it now, still a long way to go. Bums me out that I didn't start way earlier but can't change the past, only the future. I think hesitating too long is a common theme in my life and at least now I've broken that somewhat. Well, I tried to make a LUA script for SOnic Robo Blast 2 to allow for running on walls, because I played the Adventure Sonic Character mod and my autism was mad that I couldn't run on walls. So I spent a year trying desperately to make that. I used Chat GPT a lot, not to write code for me, but to explain code. I would post snippits of other people's LUA scripts and ask ChatGPT to explain it to me. Well, it got to a point that I was making SUCH progress and spending such time with it that I went "What the hell am I doing. I could actually make a game with this much effort". Then I tried to make Mario in Godot using a lot of Youtube 3D Platformer tutorials. The WebM I'm posting is the earliest footage of my game, and it was about 3 months into devving. I used a model I found on SketchFab of Mario from NSMB with all his animations baked in.

They are interchangeable so long as you don't have any other code/rules that care about grouping them. For example, it's pretty common to have some sort of shared diminishing returns of CC so that they can't just lock something out of play entirely. If you only have sleep and frozen it probably doesn't matter enough to create a distinction. But if you're a huge RPG with hundreds of effects? Was bored of coding and decided to work on something I've procrastinated for a long time: having different "hanging on a ledge" animations depending on if there's support for the feet or not. I've decided not to do a game anymore. It's going to be a video series styled like a no-commentary walkthrough of a game that doesn't exist. Spent a shitload of time finally biting the bullet and updating the engine to a newer version (got help from another dev who had been in a similar situation) and finally finally got it working in full. No more being stuck on 2018 or not being able to use addressables for modding or flickering shadows.

This is the scabbard of Cortana, one of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom - the bottom of the scabbard is square because the blade itself is, well, squared to represent the mercy of the King. Since your character has no qualms with slaughter, you can take the basic design and just make the end pointed.

It depends on how quickly you can traverse it, and what type of game you are trying to make. If you are making an exploratory game, it needs to be bigger. If you are making a normal stage with faster gameplay, you need to make it bigger as well.

I am only just blocking out levels now, but my game is fast paced and exploratory, so I have to make huge levels. I find a good rhythm, at least for the levels I am trying to make, is that each part should be its own thing, but it should flow into the next. Each challenge should be short for dopamine release, but there should be several challenges in a row to get from point A to Z.

Oh, and lastly, this is something I have found. Make at least two paths to get everywhere. Make an easy and a hard route, but the hard route should be rewarding in speed. That way, you reward good gameplay, but also allow those with lass skill to get to the goal, albeit slowly.

I'll give a more serious answer than "No."

The issue with this feedback is that you're stating the idea is inherently flawed. You're also judging gameplay based on my WEBMs where I, the guy who made the game and know where every single nook and cranny of the level is and how to abuse it, am speedrunning because of the 2 minute time limit on 4chan. I'm showing off what can be done with the momentum physics. I'm showing that you CAN speed through. I don't do a good enough job showing off the non-speedrun strats of the level, but I design almost everything in the level to have two or more routes.

I would like the levels to be a canvas and the moveset as your paint brush. I would like the levels themselves to be beatable in a million different ways while getting the goals in different orders. I do not view abusing slope physics as to skip to the end of a challenge as a bad thing. In fact, I think the opposite. I think allowing a skilled player who knows how slope physics work to speed through a challenge is good. I think rewarding knowing the inner workings of the game incentivizes repeated play. I would like your first playthrough of the game to be entirely different than the second, you know? I am making the levels with an intent to be playgrounds more than "Here is a challenge, do it the way I want you to".

Also, you don't have to go fast. I have a Run/Walk toggle button that changes your max speed specifically for platforming challenges (though, you don't have top use it. If you're good, you can run and do everything) and I also have a dash button, that makes you go really fast, at the detriment of being unable to stop.

Lastly, the idea has been done before. Banjo Kazooie had a gameplay style where if you play as Kazooie. It's a character who can run up slopes and goes fast with not a lot of air traversal. Inversely, playing as Banjo was slow, but a lot more air control. The raw speed of it is really the only difference.

I think the problem with indie game devs is that they make their game and they shit it out on steam hoping that they can compete in the endless AI shovelware thrown on there. NFG is based off MLAPI, Fishnet is pretty similar in terms of idiosyncrasies to MLAPI. There's also Photon or Mirror, but I can't speak to those two. I had to refactor my entire multiplayer stuff from MLAPI to Fishnet because MLAPI is now fully deprecated in the newer Unity version and just straight up won't compile or build, and all in all it was a pretty quick change.

You should follow unreal university and get acquainted with project settings, key blueprint like actors, actor components, interfaces. You will watch these tutorials and shake your head. I know what you mean, that's happened to me often too. I once got banned for two days for making a thread saying "hey guys I release game have some keys", but these days if I throw out some keys in random threads they don't do anything? It's borderline random.
