this is the power of linux gaming

Most people who install Linux just do it because they hate Windows. They're already willing to sacrifice compatibility with some games, so it's not particularly surprising that they're also willing to sacrifice some frames. Performance matters but most people have preferences and aren't just going to use whatever OS performs better on Windows games. For example, if Linux had higher FPS in these benchmarks, you still wouldn't use Linux.

Yeah Nvidia is notoriously worse on Linux because their drivers are shit. Nothing new there.

Is it still tolerable though? Don't really want to have to shell out for an equivalent AMD card to run a distro effectively
>>
>>720993153
If you using linux or plan to, you better just go with AMD

Depends entirely on what kind of games you play. Supposedly Nvidia is working on getting the Linux drivers up to par but if you want to play modern AAA titles I wouldn't bank on it. Just run Windows 11 LTSC.

anything that requires dx12 expect there to be a 20-40% performance penalty
also hardware acceleration sucks ass
nvidia doesn't support va-api which is what linux browsers need
>>
Does anyone know WHY nvidia cards are so shit on Linux vs other vendors?
Is it impossible for them to write full-featurred/full-perf open drivers without giving away trade secrets, and if so why isn't that an issue for AMD?
Is it a tactical decision to discourage the creation of cloud gaming services that might compete with Geforce Now?

Mostly proprietary software not meant to be reverse engineered and a general dismissal of Linux as a viable OS for a while iirc

Honestly not that bad. But yes if you've got an Nvidia GPU, unless you're really just done with Windows' shit, stay on Windows until you can get an AMD GPU.
