Ever since a /v/ anon posted a playstation trailer of this, I've been keeping my eye out.We getting this or not? I've been so desperate for 3D adventure games with an ACTUAL, REAL focus on ANYTHING BUT COMBAT, actual effort into its puzzles or platforming. And the only games that seem to even attempt to do that for some reason in modern games are games that ape zelda, despite the ironic fact that zelda was shit at both, but most certainly, "platforming", that was definitionally contexually automatic, you dont even need to press a jump button or think to make a jump.Yeah, this will sound like a shill post but fuck you, I dont care, I deserve to be passionate about this when shit like Hell is Us came out recently and was an utter disappointment where every "puzzle" was "Bring Item A to Area A thats across the entire screen, oh and scroll through some slot machines with symbols until youve settled on the arbitrary jackpot collection of symbols while youre at it. Yes, this will be EVERY single puzzle, no interactivity, completely contexual, mostly memory based, on looking for where the symbols are shown in the enviroment first".I need something to believe in. Don't you desire to believe in videogames? Also I didnt even link the steam page. This thread is mostly to rant and talk about the state of action adventure games in the modern day, Silksong only made me realize even more how serious a problem this is, that game legit has NOTHING but combat and bosses. NOTHING to its levels.
>>721004232>NOTHING but combat and bossesplatforming? exploration? no? nothing other than combat? alright
>>721004546You might be an unironic retard who has not touched the game. I guarantee you I have more hours and completion rate in the game than you do.Dont worry, im not even going to explain myself. Not going to explain how 90% of "platforming" in this game is one single room where all the platforming is stuffed into as you climb up the room. Or how when its not, "platforming" is literally just hopping on 2-4 pogos in a sequence then moving on to the next room, and the platforming lacks any actual design or creative structure beyond "precisely hit these tiny points above a pit of spikes".And dont even get me started on "exploration" a genuine and unironic retard buzzword in the modern day.Dont worry, I will save that for my big Silksong thread.KYS retard.
kek, what is this AI looking shit
Play Child of Light instead.>b-but it's not even the same genre!Don't care, that slop looks like a cheap copy of it.
>>721004964you are fucking moron, shut the fuck up you clown
>>721004964>the platforming is just platforming
>>721005461this is your brain on modern videogame discourse lol."platforming is when you stand on platforms and jump, so when youre on completely flat terrain with one set of spikes and then flat terrain again, and another set of spikes, you see its actually "platforming" to hold your sprint button and jump.see its platforming because uhhh...youre standing on platforms!!! yes! yes! i am so intelligent! as intelligent as AI! i bet AI would also come up with this same, disconnected from any actual real world experience, only purely refers to the literal use or conventional understanding of the world disconnected from any actual human, just a product of osmosis definition!"
>>721005110What can you sell me on this with?
>>721004964What are you talking about? There are whole areas like mount fay and the cog core that are focused on platforming with barely any enemies.
>>721006247he's a fucking idiot, just ignore him
i am tired of you, essayfag.
>>721005853What the fuck do you want? Name an example of good platforming.
>>721007592I want you to actually justify how jumping over spiked pits and doing like 2 pogos in a row, counts as "platforming" and how if thats the case, how every single post Ratchet and Clank 1 game suddenly isnt a platformer just because it doesnt focus on platforming as much or as heavily, and only expects you to do the most basic of precise jumps. Because there are real people that say this, that say Ratchet and Clank sequels arent really platformers. Now lets see if the AI bot has the modicum of intelligence to understand why somebody would say that, and isnt retarded enough to think TWO TINY LEVELS (Mount Fay and Cog Core) One of which has literally one of the most convenient trivializing traversal abilities in all of gaming (grapple hook, that doesnt even really demand precision, and extends farther than dash, making it largely redundant) In a game with like 20 huge levels. Makes it a "platforming" game.
kek op cooked silksong fags they cant stand actual specific criticism
>>721008498Silksong features platforming. It’s not like Super Mario Bros, Meat Boy, Celeste, or Pizza Tower, but it has minor platforming. I’ve never played Ratchet and Clank.
>>721004232I think youre a fucking faggot
>>721009340Finally you admit it.>>721009340>but it has minor platforming. To me. Hollow Knight had virtually no platforming at all beyond Path of Pain, and even then I could argue A LOT OF IT (almost everything involving wall jumping over spikes) What it actually is, is a game where you avoid traps. This distinction might not sound meaningful if you play videogames like youre an AI with no appreciation for the unique ways movement can manifest through level design and interactive feedback. But it is when you play more platformers than Mario.Platformers shouldnt be about avoiding obstacles, thats why a game like Celeste kills you and sends you RIGHT back to the start of the screen, because its not about the deaths, its not about stopping you from moving in certain ways, its about facilitating a certain style or flow of movement. A certain deeper consideration and engagement with the enviroment through movement.Despite a lack of jumping. Something like Rock Climbing to me, embodies the essences of platforming more than something like Hurdle Jumping at a Track and Field meet. Can you intuitively understand why? Or do I need to explain? Hint: You move in more ways than strictly jumping and engage more with the ways your body can move than running and jumping.
>>721010061Again, name an example or two of good platforming games and why so I can grasp your thought process. You named real world activities. And it’s very niggerish assume posters are AI.
>>721004232Why are you seething so hard about Silksong? Were you filtered?
>>721010350>You named real world activities.Yeah, because real human beings exist in real life and can understand more intuitively why their bodies moving in certain different ways would indicate different values of movement. I could have used those ninja parkour games you see on tv as an example instead, but itd be too literal.Besides I already mentioned Celeste for one. Dustforce would probably be another decent example. There arent actually a lot of good platformers ive come across, so Id mention Tomb Raider too. But see the reason why I didnt mention these games is because youre not going to be able to understand why I consider them true platformers either because you havent played it, or even if you played it, you dont truly understand or appreciate it.So then ill have to explain and elaborate indepth as to why theyre so good, which is a waste of my time when im 90% certain you're retarded and just a hollow knight fanatic that would like silksong no matter what because youre a bot.Hollow Knight was my top 3 games ever at a point. I criticize this game from a significantly more justified place than any of you
Another good example of good platforming is the Prince of Persia Lost Crown game...when it lets itself have any platforming. Most of its actual platforming is contained in trials, or very optional stuff, so it leaves barely any impression. If youre actually an honest individual that likes talking about videogames indepth, then read this:https://arch.b4k.dev/v/thread/698957683
>>721011012Interesting. Whatever.
>>721011215disingenuous retard, i knew youd be a waste of time and not appreciate elaboration anyways.
>>721011319No, no it was a good elaboration. I’m just slacking off at work and now I’ve lost interest. Hope the game in the OP is good.
>>721011506Hm okay, maybe I got ahead of myself because im used to people not understanding me or engaging with me here. Well, aslong as you took something from my point and didnt just dismiss it for seeming too harsh of Silksong. I dont make criticism for no reason, or for its own sake, I am trying to understand games deeper when I criticize them.Well, have a good one I guess>Hope the game in the OP is good.I hope so too, gunna get it once I get some more money. Not like I have many games this year I believed in beyond Silksong
So what even is the game in the OP? How did this become a silksong thread?
>Zelda...but female!kek it even apes OoT time child adult dichotomy
