Warband had few features but executed them in a satisfying and intuitive way. Bannerlord added a million new features but they're such shallow dogshit that half the time it'd be better to just not have to deal with them. The family system for example is fucking retarded, anyone who isn't a family leader is basically just a brainless mook with zero autonomy so building relationships with them or remembering their names means absolutely nothing.

Under discussed issue is government funding though. As soon as the game is finished they lose their government funding, so they sabotage the game. Blatantly, objectively, they sabotage it. They padded the dev time by repeatedly redoing things they already made, they intentionally released things incomplete so they could work on them as glacially slow post launch releases, and 6 years later they still haven't given out the full modding tools and constantly release tiny micro updates that patch some one in a billion chance of a texture glitch or something and somehow break everyone's mods as a result. Mods were the lifeblood of Warband, but if Taleworlds steps back and lets modders actually fix their game it'll make everyone realize they're all lazy incompetent grifters.

Also cancelling promised features and deleting the old dev blogs to pretend you never mentioned them is such a piece of shit move, fuck these people. Tons of people bought bannerlord for these specific features without knowing they backed out on them like cowards.

game is fun but I think the weekly patches kept most away from seriously modding it, 1.3 looks like it'll be sick but expect another 3-4 months of weekly hotfixes screwing shit up. it was also difficult to get invested in a long campaign, which is when the game really starts, if every week your save is getting borked. The typical campaign feel of "at the mercy of dogshit AI RNG whether your side wins wars or not" is preserved from warband but definitely should've been improved upon, but makes it more rewarding when it does work out. Though I've long since switched to playing trve neutral caravaneer merchant lord (with a sledgehammer for taking loads of prisoners for even more money and hunting down bandits), running horses north, wood to the east, furs to the south, silks to the west etc which is very rewarding and fun in it's own way.

Also the early dark ages setting is fucking BORING, I HATE vikingslop and im thankful that era is over now, but its a relic of that lazy backwards time. I want to lead heroic knights to capture some magestic jewel of a city or elaborate hilltop fortress not 200 people living in mudhuts around a crumbling ruin.

I'd have been fine with it being actual antiquity themed as well and leaning into cool roman stuff and persians and gauls and shit but they went for the terrible hideous boring middleground. Who cares about uniting Calradia if at the end you're still a bunch of dirty backwards retards living in a dark age.

The Sturgians were obviously meant to be a blend of vikings and slavs(with a more viking lean) before they decided to add nords, the devs have openly said this, they were supposed to be the ancestors of both the nords and the vaegirs. They're literally moving sturgian items and assets to the new faction and changing them to look more slavic now.

I think having the big dynamic siege battles diluted it from feeling like a struggle to breach and take the walls and turned it into TDM on a city themed map. Most of the fighting happens in the settlement rather than on the walls.

Games can have tens of thousands of enemies but they need to be written a certain way (data oriented design), that's probably not how bannerlors was written if it tops out at 2000 on screen and requires a beefy PC to do it.

I played with some mods to adjust battle sizes and I know my beefy pc begins to struggle when theres much more than 1000 units total present. I could shove it higher but also having the game run decently is more preferable. yea I find this kinda stuff fascinating. there was recently a mod for rimworld trying to address the game lagging to shit during big raids by abstracting raiders into squads with one real pawn and other fakes filling in the gaps. creative solution to help reduce overhead when you spawn 500 raiders.

pretty much this. they thought adding a million NPCs with names for every town leader/business/villager would make it better, but it just swamps the world in meaningless shit. no, the guild master doesn't need the name "timurid the obstinate"; he can just be called the guild master so i can focus on the actual important npcs with names like lords and not have my brain overloaded.
same with companions. procedural companions are just dogshit. feels like a mod implementation with how careless of an idea it is.
