This is a good thing—I'm fucking tired of UE5's tyranny.
>>
>>721077367
Well, it is a good engine.
>>
>>721077367
Kojima used it better than the shitty Horizon games.
>>
>>721077507
lol
lmao even
>>
>>721077545
He's right. Horizon is a woke Ubislop tier game with an ugly ass Femcel MC. The CEO of Gorilla Games has ran Sony into the ground in the last few years too. They made a good engine but are garbage at business and making games. I'm all for giving the engine to actual talent.

>Kojima
Hideo Kojima actually made significant modifications to the engine used in Death Stranding, which may now be quite different from the original Decima engine.
But it may simply be marketed by Sony as Decima 2.0.
>>
>>721077367
Wow thing are about to get DICEY
>>
>>721077507
It's at least better than UE5
>>
>>721077367
It doesn't matter, cry engine is out there, it's better than ue5 and nobody use, the reason of why ue5 is popular is because it can be used by Indians
>>
>>721077507
anything is better than those
>>
>>721077367
It makes sense, consoles need "first party" engines that produce quality products instead of relying on third party games made by retards on a building block game engine.
You can't assure quality from now UE5 game, you can assure quality from a first party engine that targets your hardware and gatekeeps shitty devs by requiring competency to work in.

If anything it's surprising that this hasn't always been a thing.
>>
>>721077507
i don't really feel strongly about horizon's mc or world one way or the other, but the game is deceptively smooth. wasn't nearly as pozzed as i thought it was going to be
>>
>>721078023
It's built for purpose and by the looks of things it's built to be built for purpose, so devs can strip out systems they don't need to use, UE5 doesn't work that way.
>>
>>721077367
Nice, finally some good Sony news
>>
>>721077507
Decima was a support studio on the Kojima games, god you are such a NIGGER
>>
>>721078141
>cry engine
Why doesn't anyone want to use it?
What are its drawbacks?
Besides Crytek, the only studio that seems to be using CryEngine correctly is Warhorse, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
>>
>>721078593
For what l saw, there are low documentation of it, so the developer's have to learn the engine first before start using.
Even white devs like the ones who made e33 preferred to use ue5.

>implying Death Stranding is not open world slop
>>
>>721078141
Current iteration of cryengine is ass. KCD2 uses a heavily modified version of and old version of the engine.
t. Hunt Showdown player.
>>
>>721078141
Probably sadly true. Square was open to license Luminous Engine but didn't get customers and even forced Nomura to use UE5
>>
>>721077367
Does Valve still license out Source Engine? Apex Legends is some weird Source hybrid.
>>
>>721079051
E33 can't use CryEngine because it used UE store stock animation and was outsourced to 300 people
>>
>>721077367
>I'm fucking tired of UE5's tyranny.
this engine will be just be ruined by outsourcing same as ue slop
>>
>>721079451
Source 1 is legit outdated now. Source 2 can't do open world (yet).
>>
>>721079569
Is there even a modern game that uses source 2 to its fullest extend?
>>
>>721079696
Dota 2?
>>
>>721077367
Vehicle physics was so bad. I hope they implement something different
>>
>>721079773
Dota 2 is the pinnacle of Source 2? Maybe they should skip to Source 5 then.
>>
>>721077367
a bit late. An engine like Decima would have been a way better fit for FF7R than UE4.
>>
>sony
who gives a shit
>>
>>721079918
The whole reason Source 2 even exists is because of Dota 2. It's the first game to use it and their reason for using it is to surpass the limitations of Source 1.
>>
>>721078593
Because it is an old and outdated engine.
>>
And games will still have shitty performance. UE5 is not the problem, shitty devs are
>>
>>721077367
I will now explain thoroughly why this is bad and gay
>>
>>721080475
It's currently at CryEngine FIVE though.
>>
>>721079696
Alyx and CS2 but they cant be using it to "full extent" as the engine is still not fully done yet (or maybe it is now, who knows how far along they are with HL3)
>>
>>721077367
What's a licence?
>>
What scripting language does it use?
>>
>>721079446
A great engine killed by a woke slop, grim
>>
>sony
Not vidya
>>
It will be funny if Sony saves video games from ue5. Personally I wish Platinum sold out their in house engine.
>>
oh look, another discussion on a baseless rumor that will never come true.
>>
>>721077367
>rumor
Anyway the only Decima game I played was Killzone Shadowfall and that game looked and ran awesome on the PS4. Fuck Unreal up its crusty ass with a rusty pike that engine ruined this industry for at least 5 years straight & we were robbed of good games.
>>
>>721077367
Will anyone really use it? Devs use UE5 because it's just braindead easy.
>>
>>721080841
assuming you aren't baiting
it's the agreement saying you can use my software
specifically in cases like engine licensing, it also covers you making money off of using my software
so pretty common agreement would be "you pay me a smaller fee now to develop your game using my engine, and you agree to pay me a royality for each game you sell that uses my engine. that royality may expire after a certain amount of time or a sales milestone is hit"
>>
>>721078593
It's always an issue of training and documentation/support. Capcom's MT Framework for example never got used outside Capcom not just because it was their personal engine, but because all the documentation and instructions and such were in japanese.

False. Death Stranding is one of my top 5 games of all time and Horizon is mid but it's the more graphically and technically impressive game, i.e. does more with the engine, and performs better as well.
>>
>>721077367
That won't do anything. The problem is modern devs don't know how an engine works. The problem is not with the engine, it's with the developers. Just making a better engine is not the answer. UE is not even a bad engine, just see what the Arkham devs did with it.
>>
>>721077367
decima-balls
>>
>>721081485
If Sony gives proper documentation on how to use it, why not? Won't probably be on a massive scale like UE5 or Unity is, but they can start to license it to mid tier developers who can spare time to learn it
>>
>>721077367
Everyone should use it and Sony will ask for ownership of their IPs for it.
>>
>>721080475
Saying Cryengine V is old is like saying UE5 is old because UE3 exists
>>
>>721083535
And you can't do anything about this. Actual graphics programmers wouldn't work in game dev, the industry just makes too little money. Quant, defence, medicine, AI, etc, make way more money for it to be a financially responsible decision to work in game dev if you have the skills of graphics programming. And those who care about soul would just stay in academia. The best graphics programmers are working in CUDA to implement AI algorithms right now, not wasting their effort on rendering. And even if they are, they would rather work with Disney.
>>
>>721077367
Capcom has an opportunity to try something new.
>>
>>721077367
Why?
>>
>>721077367
Sure, why not?
>Sony
It will be one of the worst licensing contracts in the industry if it ever comes out.
>>
>>721078593
>the only studio that seems to be using CryEngine correctly is Warhorse, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
The word "correctly" seems to be pulling a lot of work there, because KC:D was a technical disaster on release.
>>
>>721078141
And because it'll still be around and supported in ten years time. Look at Helldivers 2, half the game's problems are because they're locked in to an engine that was officially officially discontinued in 2022.
>>
>>721085201
>KC:D was a technical disaster on release.
Still is. I played it just this year, it's janky as fuck both visually and technically and performs worse than the sequel.
>>
>>721077367
I can't wait for people to blame the engine when the devs fail to optimize their assets in Decima
>>
>>721078379

>>
how does it run on PC?
>>
>>721079107
Mother of god. The cringe.
>>
Nintendo also made an engine for people to use didn't they? It was a long tome ago, I wonder what is the name of that thing or if it was discarded a long time ago
>>
>>721079051
>Even white devs like the ones who made e33 preferred to use ue5
That's because the average programmer that gets hired is some turbo normalfag who unironically believes in vibe coding. They're more competent than jeets but the bar is already pretty low.
