Add it on Steam and use Proton, that is the option most likely to work.
>but anon i pirated the game/bought on GoG
You can still add it on Steam and use Proton by clicking the option "add a non-steam game" on the bottom left corner.
You also need to activate the "play non-native Linux games" or something like that on the options, it is off by default for some reason.
>>
>>721081349
nothing stopping you from adding it on steam as non-steam executable and starting it with proton from that way

>>
>>721080847
So basically you're saying that you're too dumb to play pirated games on Linux, even with launchers like Lutris.
>>
>>721081765
Sure, but it's still going to use the GPU. You could also start a headless X11 session using software rendering only and then access it over VNC on both the host and the VM, but that is going to suck, too. You can also simply just stop the GUI session entirely every time the VM starts. Or you could buy a second GPU if a VM is really how you want to play games. I'd say go for it if you have the autism.
>>
>>721081501
i just tried that with both proton experimental and proton 9.0-4. neither worked. I click play, steam says the game is running then 2 seconds later it says the game isnt running

>>
>>721081501
The main reason many games work out of the box on steam is because it installs a bunch of dependencies they need. If OP just adds it to his library and launches it through that he's not getting those so there's no point.

The Arch memes are very outdated, it really is just that easy.
If you have some time and don't need or want a stable (technical definition) distro. then it's basically a beginner friendly distro.

>>
>>721080847
OP is a faggot, but the reality is that some distributions of Linux are woefully under equipped to handle Vidya out of the box.
Many distros require a lot of post install set up/support for gaming.
The key is to look into which distros are well rated for gaming:
Ubuntu is good, Linux mint is better and PopOS is really good.
Bazzite is a steamOS derived distro and that too is really solid.
Most of that comes from those distros including various compatibility options and drivers etc.

Other distros, like Fedora or Arch are great, but they offer next to nothing in gaming support and require a lot of set up and support to make them as capable as the aforementioned distros are at gaming out of the box.

The real issue is the Linux community and the gatekeepers who shit on Ubuntu and push Fedora or Arch, which literally only piss off newcomers because those distros are made specifically for power users and people who want to manage and customize their entire experience.

TLDR: fuck the faggots and just use PopOS or maybe try Bazzite.
>>

>>721085487
Lutris should have GE-Proton on the list as well. Your Lutris is probably outdated since Mint usually has very old packages. Download GE-Proton manually and then select it or use UMU like another anon said.

Arch just werks and Ubuntu is the unwanted middle child between Debian and Mint that is outclassed by both.
Arch does not need more work to function for gaming and is as much for people stumbling into Linux due to the AUR and the wiki as it is for power users.
Bazzite is not SteamOS based, it is an immutable Fedora spin and immutable distros are just a meme.

Mint is better than Ubuntu, PopOS is the Ubuntu distro best suited for gaming as it comes with signed drivers for a lot of devices.
Mint requires a little set up after install. Use ChatGPT to walk you thru some terminal commands to get you caught up in what you're missing, or try PopOS

>Other distros, like Fedora or Arch are great, but they offer next to nothing in gaming support and require a lot of set up and support to make them as capable as the aforementioned distros are at gaming out of the box
I'm a complete linux noob but i've been using Arch(endeavourOS) for about a month now and really haven't had much issues with gaming at all. The most I troubleshot for a game was trying to get SPTarkov to work, but that's because I was being stubborn and trying to use my old windows install with all of my mods. If I used the lutris installer then it would have been as easy as installing any other game.
Everything else has been pretty much download and play, maybe switching proton versions occasionally.
>The real issue is the Linux community and the gatekeepers who shit on Ubuntu and push Fedora or Arch, which literally only piss off newcomers because those distros are made specifically for power users and people who want to manage and customize their entire experience.
If someone is going to bitch and moan about how shitty microsoft/windows is, but put no effort into learning a new OS, then they don't really care about the stuff they're complaining about and should just stick with windows because it's the most retard friendly OS barring Mac.

Are you mentally challenged? Pacman -S is a command for installing packages, you use this one to install UMU. The second one is just the command umu uses to run the game along with the path to the .exe after the command. If someone has ever used cmd in their life (you should have if you're not a zoomer) then you would have no problems using almost every linux distribution. Pacman and umu/wine are the only commands you're probably going to be using, you can do almost everything else with gui nowadays. Lutris even fucking auto installs proton and runs umu for you.

Im unironically starting to think that sooner or later Linux might even be better for game compatibility. Before switching to Fedora I noticed that more and more older games refuse to work while all of them work just fine on Linux. Worst case that could happen would be games with denuvo where each time you change Proton version counts as a new install so you have to wait 24 hours until you can try again.

Might be true if you use an Nvidia GPU, but at least with AMD GPUs its literally install some rolling release distro like Fedora (or Bazzite/Cachy if you want even less work) and thats it. You dont even have to install drivers manually, at this point the only work you have to do with Linux is getting used to a lot of new terminology and the general flow of using Linux compared to Windows. But that takes maybe a few weeks and youre golden. And changing Proton versions, at least when using steam, is done in a simple dropdown menu.

but it's better to first check Linux compatibility for a particular laptop. When you download pirated games on Linux, not all repacks works.
So, your problem may be the crack, not the game.
>also
Lutris is meant for "original" games as steam, gog, disks, free ones, or those which have not anti-piracy methods. In those cases, it installs the game automatically.
It's not guaranteed that all pirated games works. That's why linux pirates have a small list of recommended repackers.
>i dont know what that refers to.

>>
>>721109309
thank you for actually being helpful. Its not a repack but i guess i will just follow your link. I have tried a few other pirated games in the same fashion and lutris ran fine so i expected this to as well. again, thank you
>>
>>721088017
do you have wine installed directly?
start the game with "wine game.exe" in a terminal

copy what the logs say,
ask an AI what the issue is an it should tell you what you need to install or set.
that process works for me pretty well
>>
>>721109443
When you extract the game, don't try running the .exe file, run the .sh one.

the problem is he has to set up shit for john cena, so he should try just running the exe with lutris first, maybe it' was a problem with the game.

OP Here. holy shit i FINALLY got it to work. So apparently I have two versions of Steam on here. I've bene using the flatpak version this whole time. It's shit, but so is windows modern windows.

Windows is "every 15 days, windows will steal your computer for a while".

How does a prefix get bloated "over time" if it's only for a single game?
Not that you actually need to use a separate prefix for every game. Steam does it by default; Bottles doesn't. If you use one prefix for everything then maybe you keep applying more and more winetricks verbs (>implying anyone even uses winetricks anymore) and maybe it gets bloated. But your complaint about bloat doesn't really make any sense if you're also complaining about having one for each game. A Wine prefix doesn't just get bigger over time for no reason.

It actually doesn’t work. Every week there’s a new bug, and you just have to sit there holding your balls until someone releases a fix. Then that fix breaks another part of the game, so you have to wait again, and the next fix causes some new problem somewhere else. Eventually you just get sick of waiting and beat the game while trying to ignore all the glitches.

That what gaming on linux is like.

You seem pretty obsessed. Maybe you should just go wank to trans porn to get your mind off of it for a while.

Is mint the most normie tech friendly distro for just playing games and basic computer use?
>>
>>721134921
>explains that the actual is harmful and will uninstall the entire desktop
>yes, do as I say!!!

the fact that people will do this and then complain is the most infuriating shit, there is no way to fight the mobileshit lockdown and toddlerization when these retards are around.
>>
>>721135947
It's pretty easy to use. But you will still need to have a functioning brain and an understanding that it's not Windows.
>>
>>721136063
My parents are computer illiterate and can use Mint completely fine.
>>
>>721135795
>all he had to do
On windows is just 2 clicks.
On linux OP was trying to fix something that literally had no fix. He could've easily changed some random configuration he didn't understand in an attempt to fix this stupid way linux does things. And this won't be the only time, just wait until he runs into proton bugs and spends days trying to figure out what is wrong only to find out that there is actually no fix and he just has to wait for the bug to be patched on the next proton version.
Meanwhile on Windows it's just 2 clicks.
>>
>>721136164
>le two le heckin le clickerinos
lmao
>>
>>721136104
It's probably BETTER for people who are computer-illiterate, because they will just learn how to use it instead of seething that their decades of experience in Windows-wrangling doesn't help them anymore.
>>
>>721136234
Oh fuck, well I'm gonna need to choose something because windows 7 is going to fail me someday sooner than later.
>>
>>721136164
>that literally had no fix
But he got the game working, so you're wrong. The fix was just using Steam instead of a bunch of Flatpak bullshit he was too stupid to use and didn't need to install.
>muh 2 clicks

Wincels explain this
>>
>>721136364
Their explanation is "works on my machine".
If you use Windows and someone has some weird problem but you don't, that other person is just dumb.
It's only when you use Linux that someone else having a weird problem means the operating system is broken and you're lying if you say you didn't have the same weird problem too.
>>
>>721134921
uhh bro all I did was
>sudo apt install steam
and it just werk'd so idk what the problem is 2bdesu.

No, the opendrivers are early in development and have way worse performance.
>>
>>721080847

Just donwloaded it to check if there was a problem, just started like every other game I play, try another pirated version and this time USE STEAM TO LAUNCH IT, hope you get it to work

>>721094520
I'm givng a second life to my 1660 super and so far I haven't feel the need to upgrade. But If I do I plan to get a 12gb 3060 maybe next year.
>>
>>721136104
>>721136234
Like you said, it's better for computer-illiterate.
A tip I would give to anyone who wants to use Linux is forgetting almost all their experience by using Windows, because they will waste time for nothing (or for worse) by doing in the windows way.
For example, installing drivers.

>>

>installing drivers
laughs in amd linux
>>
>>721139192
My example was meant more for wifi or touchpad problems, which their solution is just updating the kernel. Not looking for their drivers individually like in windows.
>>
I can't play the Epic Store version of GTA V on Linux because of some Rockstar Launcher fuckery, I gave up on fixing it. I think Steam version would work since games with other launchers do

You trust 4chan users over ProtonDB users?
I mean, you do you, but I could just say "yeah it works" and you'd believe me? Okay, it works. Just kidding; I don't even have the game. What if I hadn't admitted this? At least a ProtonDB report indicates whether the author has even played the game (depending on profile privacy settings of course).
