Alfred only reveals his illness to his sister, Yunaka has to explain her backstory because Citrinne threatens her, stuff like that. Definitely makes it hard to learn about these characters easily, though.

If you want to do tropey slice of life stuff you also have to lay the groundwork elsewhere that makes the characters involved feel like actual characters the player can care about.Engage wants the SoL wacky stuff without wanting to have to do the legwork that would first make the player care about the characters. It's lazy, sloppy support writing.

They're technically the catalyst of the current conflict and Alear is forced to ally with them because of the bigger threat (because Solm and especially Firene have been walking on eggshells with Brodia this whole time), but it's a shame that a lot of that is tucked away in mostly Diamant's supports. Brodia has potential to be a really interesting take on the Red Empire trope.

The Elusia girls and other lines from characters like Lindon make a point to show that Hyacinth WAS a kind man who actually was doing good for his family and country, but was eventually driven to desperation and a fatal reliance on Sombron. The whole thing with Sombron eating that Elusian village read to me like an attempt to show that ultimately, they were victims too. The common people of Elusia didn't ask for all of this. Even Alfred says in the early game that them resorting to the Fell faith doesn't necessarily make them evil people. And as seen by Mauvier and his mom, who used to be Firene residents, things like losing faith in the Divine Dragon could push them to that sort of alternative faith too.
