what are your thoughts on the Mass Effect series?
shepard
more like ASS effect haha
mass effect two is a good game however mass effect 1 feels like it never really got a true sequel. I don’t care for mass effect 3 at its best it’s a worse me2
good games, 1 is the most replayable by far. 2 feels fine mechanically but after a while the endless series of sidequests begins to wear on the mind, gets progressively worse the closer you get to the end as you realize what awaits in 3 is just another long game that feels like knocking out a list of chores, then you get to the end and despite Citadel being a fun conciliatory fan-wank the fact remains it is an much need apology that came way too late and should've just been repackaged as a DLC-ending ala fallout 3 that changes the unfavorable outcome both 2 and 3 build towards...
>>721124623Mass effect 2 is one of the greatest games of all time for meEverything from the opening, reuniting with Garrus, Mordin, Illusive man, Miranda, suicide mission music, that slow mysterious collector reveal. Legendary game for its time
It is a good series. Even ME3's shitty ending and all of ME:A didn't completely ruin it. Though my expectations are incredibly low, I am still going to pay attention if they ever actually make the next one. For some reason, with these space RPG/adventure games, it is so hard for developers to scratch the itch properly.
>>721124623Far from perfect, but I don't think I've ever been as invested in following along with a series since. No other game has really managed to do what it tried to do with save imports across a full trilogy, and I doubt we'll ever see anything greenlit like that ever again.
>>721124623ME1 is the best. It never got an actual sequel. Fuck EA.
>>721124623Tried getting back into it. Only Andromeda is good. The gameplay literally doesn't exist in the first three so I couldn't get back into them. And the characters seemed very boring. Plus the "role playing" is gay as fuck and focuses only on points like fucking renegade or paragon, locking shit behind shit. In other words you can only choose cool options if you don't actually allow yourself to choose and just mindlessly click red every time. You also cannot fuck the girl you want unless you simp the whole game. If you disagree with her on ONE thing, you are locked out of her forever. No matter how small or insignificant. There is no reason to ever have any points systems in role playing games. It's pathetic. I could barely even do like two missions in the first game before giving up. Please fix this shit bioware and rerelease it as a REAL role playing game!
>>721124623An amazing idea thrown by the wayside as early as its sequel. So ambitious that quite literally not a soul to this day has picked up the mantle and it thus remains the best example, albeit heavily flawed, of how to do savefile importing regarding narrative choices. A great example on how to establish a new setting too, given 70% of lore people are attached to originated with ME1 alone. Really, the first game is a masterpiece. Then the rest happened. 1 > 3 > 2
>>721124623Has one of the greatest if not the greatest rpg of all time, your value to me as an ME fan is 99% determined by if you think 1 is the best game in the series.
>>721124623Why does it feel like no new alien driven sci-fi settings have really managed to establish themselves in ages? Like no one wants to be in the same competitive space as Star Wars or something. The only upcoming one I can think of is Exodus.
There is no series. There is the Mass Effect game and some parts of what could have been the sequel making it into what is effectively a reboot. The audience for the "first" game is disappointed with the "second" not delivering what is normally expected of a proper sequel. The new intended audience doesn't understand the good things in "first" because it's doing the equivalent of evaluating a fish while looking at an apple.
>>7211246231 is good2 is overrated 3 is just okEverything after doesn’t matter
>>721124623The Asari are retards>30,000 years ahead of humans>Not gods
>>721126521I think ME1 had the best atmosphere, main plot, and central villain. But outside of Wrex I don't think the squadmates get to shine quite like they do in the rest of the series.
>>721126586Ben 10 could easily, and I mean EASILY destroy the fuck out of Star Wars if they tried. Only boomers have ever liked star wars and think it's relevant. They still watch it to this day like it's a fucking obligation and think it's a part of our culture. However, Ben 10 is actually fucking good. The setting, concept, and characters easily outclass their star wars equivalents. If they wanted to they could turn it into a blockbuster movie and it would outsell any modern star wars project. I'm not saying it will become the next star wars, because times have changed. People aren't obsessed with being good little consoomersluts anymore. They're not going to buy fucking Ben 10 pajamas, bed sheets, toothbrushes, coffee mugs, etc. And Zoomers are too chad to be unironic geeks and obsess over it. But people will still talk about it online and stuff, and it'll still sell tickets.
zoomie here I bought andromeda on sale for 5 bucks years ago after playing through legendary collection. should I even bother playing it?
>>721126740>women get too distracted by petty retarded shit to explore and buildWhat's your complaint exactly?
>>721127465kys shill
>>721126780I actually prefer the squadmate conversations in 1. The way they're set up feels more immersive because they "always" (after main missions) have something to say, whereas in 2 it's tied to their own loyalty missions. This is why, for example, Garrus and his calibrations are such a meme. You basically don't talk to him for like 20 hours after recruiting him because all conversations are locked behind specific loyalty missions, so they're just static NPCs who have nothing to say about anything for over half of the game.
>>721124623>1 game>series
>>721128248Tali is just an exposition booth for Quarians in 1. Garrus barely says or does anything. Liara wants to jump your bones after 2 small conversations.
>>721124623Normiecore, but it's okay, step above Star Wars
>>721130624It's okay because it died. Not without any dignity, but it died and wasn't artificially kept alive
>>7211246231>3>2, but they are all great games in my book. Playing all 3 games back-to-back is my favorite gaming experience of all time.
>>721124623It's the perfect franchise in which to notice DEI and woke ruining video games, almost like some prehistoric mosquito in amber resin, as it progressively (pun intended) gets more gay and the writing just keeps getting worse and it's all captured forever.
>>721124623The first one is a must play. And despite many objections to the changes I enjoyed the remastered version well enough and I've played the original.I lost motivation to finish replaying 2, and I remember playing through 3 years back and have no urge to replay it unfortunately.TLDR: The first mass effect is a masterpiece and is a must play.
1 okay2 shit3 never played because 2 was shit
>>721132686Aside from some of the lighting the LE version of 1 just objectively better. I was doing the Normandy crash site mission in 2 and you get these flashbacks to characters in 1 like Presley and they look like shit because it's using OG ME1 shots.
When you replay ME1 and consider the time it was released, it was so many light years ahead of other games of it's kind really, and easily the best sci fi game.It was like the Jurassic Park of videogames, a truly legendary effort to make something so special that blew the world away during it's time. To call it a success is an understatement, it elevated the entire industry, it elevated the media of videogames itself. And you can still enjoy it today and be amazed at how thoroughly good it is, from beginning to end and every element of it.
>>721124623The decline of this series was devastating to watch in real time.Everyone says that Gamergate got Trump elected, but no one still mentions the Mass Effect 3 Ending drama.
>>721124623I like driving around on the empty planets in ME1 and looking at the skyboxes
>>7211246231 is great but bare2 is great but a weird step, really doesn't equate to much except for developing characters3 is great, but has a shit ending. this is the truth.
>>721132119This. I was just in the 9th grade when it came out and Steve Cortez really stuck out as excessive, making his gaynigger shit impossible to ignore just for trying to upgrade my guns.
1>2>3>4
>>721124623Something hopeful from my youth that turned into a depressing waste of potential.I was used to clunky "action" RPG games, like Morrowind, that kind of played like shit but even then I realised Mass Effect 1 had fairly boring combat. But the world building and visual style was extremely good and I saw it as a potential new Big Game IP.Big IPs are like Star Wars, Warhammers, Elder Scrolls, LotR, DnD/Forgotten Realms etc. They all have shitty games but the imaginary world is really interesting to audiences (maybe Forgotten Realms is just familiar rather than interesting...) and they keep calling for more of it, so devs keep making games and eventually some of them are really good.Corporations are wrong to think an IP is a Golden Goose that should always lay golden eggs. That's never going to happen. But entertainment companies are basically goose-egg-pie factories that need a constant supply of eggs. Big companies will kill and eat a goose because they realise it isn't laying gold eggs, only to then wander around begging on the street for any spare geese. Don't kill the goose you stupid fuckers.Mass Effect was a setting that could have had mobile games, RPGs, shooters and survival games for decades, but instead they tried to squeeze as much of an TPS/RPG game trilogy out of it as possible, as quickly as possible and it killed the setting. Andromeda bombed not just because we could tell it was shit, it also bombed BECAUSE it was set in the Mass Effect world aka a dead universe that had been nuked by the previous games.
>>721124623>what are your thoughts on the Mass Effect series?I have a deep love for the Quarian people
>>721133630Xen is the type of girl to stab you during sex
>>721133360I wonder what kind of laughs we would've gotten if Andromeda had gotten sequels. At the time, it was seen as outlandishly poorly made, probably even contributed to mainstreaming India hate, but now that's just every UE5 release.
>>721124623irredeemable trash that only got popular because of the zeitgeist at the timewere it released now everyone would rightfully call it cringe
Andromeda had fun combat and finally gave us the fem turian romance. Unfortunately everything else about it sucks.
>>721133654I could fix her and all she really wanted was total geth death
Legendary edition was good for one thing at least
>>721124623Series?
>>721124623It couldve been Star Wars for gaming but Bioware cut its potential short and its one of those series where you can feel the different writers and designers clashing in the game I dont know why there arent any clones that could fill the void, with DAO there are plenty of fantasy games like that but with ME not really other space games just only go all in the endless exploration side
>>721133564They high turnover rate and the short term thinking engendered by quarterly earnings strongly incentivizes corporate executives to kill golden geese. They won't stick around long enough to face the consequences, so it's a no-brainer from their point of view.
>>721133957I can't stand this character
>>721134281t. Yahg
>>721134281correct, you lay with her
>>721133697If it came out today, the mono-gendered race of hot slutty psychic space elves would set of a massive culture war shitstorm.
All Human women are made for Krogan cock-Sent from my Omni-Tool
>>721124623The series is a collection of terrible design choices by BiowareThe worst by far is the dialogue wheel. That shit spread to their other games and killed Dragon Age, as well as bankrupting SWTORHilarious that they patented this "invention". You can literally trace Bioware's demise to them forcing this crap in their games
>>721124623It's my lotr trilogy of video games and mass effect 2 is my favourite game of all time
Is Andromeda worth picking up for $6? I heard the gameplay is actually kinda okay
>>721135725>300000 dead Batarians>Reaper invasion delayedwhy would an Alliance Admiral do anything other than jump for joy at that news
>>721125989>Far from perfect, but I don't think I've ever been as invested in following along with a series since.Pretty much same here. It's not even the fact I played when I was young and "didn't know any better", but they really had something with the semi-defined protagonist that neither the likes of Geralt or Tav could offer.>>721126085>Only Andromeda is good. The gameplay literally doesn't exist in the first three so I couldn't get back into themYou could say that for the first two games (despite them being products of their time), but it's just blatantly false for the third one - and I say that as someone who has an obligatory mod for ME3 endings because they fumbled the story that bad. You've got a huge variety of enemies, a bunch of unique weapons and they went all-in with power combos. The multiplayer was genuinely fun and I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't revamp it in the Legendary Edition.
>>721124623I still enjoy replaying the trilogy every couple of years but Mass Effect 3 bums me out. Mods help tho.I always have a void everytime I finish it and nothing can really fill it. KOTOR 1 & 2 come close.
>>721133630you and me both brother
>>721135880That's as a good a deal you can get beyond free. It's good enough in terms of combat and having the jetpack does add in terms of variety during action. The only downside is the plot and dialogue.
>>721135880I've tried like 5 times and I always end up dropping it after 10 or so hours. Just doesn't feel like Mass Effect to me.Also, every female in that fucking game is obnoxious in one way or another.
>>721136820I liked Vetra
>>721136119>The multiplayer was genuinely fun and I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't revamp it in the Legendary Edition.picrel is the only response to that we ever gotthey were musing on the idea of committing resources to mp if mele sold well enough, and according to ea it dramatically exceeded expectations for both sales and player retention in the mid to long-term, but they never followed through on the ideaas bioware was going through some incredibly stupid bullshit internally at the time, the effects of which are still being felt today, I doubt they could've spared a team for it anyway
>>721124623not sure yet bro, i just bought the legendary edition and ill definitely play through these games during the fall/winter.
>>721124761Wrex
>>721124623Just another psy-op in the end.Nice designs though.
>>721135919He must maintain good PR. Shepard is a terrorist, so he can make terrorist jokes.
>>721124623It's alright. I remember liking the first game when I was younger, played it a lot with my best friend. But I've gone back to it a few times and simply haven't been able to get into it. It's very slow paced and not in a good way. I tend to give up when getting to the citadel. Mass Effect 2 is fun enough for a replay. I guess I like the world and the characters better in 2. ME3 I haven't touched since I first played it. I remember it having the best shooter gameplay, but the disappointing story makes the idea of replaying it unappealing. Never got into any side material or played Andromeda. Not the best series, but pretty fun for what it is. Comes off like a goddamn masterpiece in the current era.
>>721133630Best ending for her is to let her people die after fucking her
>>721124623I'll always be fond of the series (sans ME:A), but I maintain that the series should have gone on to have semi-independent entries like ME2 dealing with local issues and having Reapers remain a mysterious background threat.I really like ME3's gameplay, it feels as mechanically perfect as it has never been in the rest of the series, but I absolutely do not care for its story or its "end of the world as we know it" vibe.
>>721147076How can you type something like this and not be disgusted with yourself? Jesus.
>>721151147not him but desu the quarians kinda deserve it, only reason most people save them is dem hips
