My issue with the lore in Silksong is that there is no sense of history. Hollownest feels like exploring the ruins of an ancient kingdom, which it is. Pharloom feels like exploring a dystopian theme park. That veneer of fakeness works for the citadel, but not for the surrounding world. The weavenests feel like they were abandoned a week ago, and filled with plastic cobwebs just before you walked in. The timeline feels jumbled. I know a quirky action-platformer shouldn't be scrutinised for high-concept worldbuilding, but the original set such a high standard.
