I'm going to be desu with you fellas right now.

I don't understand the fixation on newer games. There are hundreds of varified good games from yesteryear. Many of them can be obtained for free or very cheap. The increased price of hardware and software doesn't matter. Older PC components or entire systems can be bought for very little and will give you access to so many games. I feel as if the consumerism of new new new has done the industry and the players no good.

TL;DR go play Cave Story or OpenTTD

Normies and NPCs don't care about the games themselves. They're just looking for a reason to be a part of some loser community. Why do you think every minute thing has a discord group associated with it?

I didn't even read the whole post but I agree, idiots get baited into playing dogshit games because they're new and that's why gaming is in such a bad spot right now.

There are some new games that I enjoy, and some old games I enjoy. "New good, old bad" and "Old bad, new good" are equally reductionist.

You can still like both desu. But you're right, the value proposition continues to worsen and never truly recovered after Gen 7.

I already played those games and the industry chain mods that make openttd worth playing aren't even old, the openttd people actually play for real is a NEW game. All of this crap you people post about is games I played 20 years ago already and you don't even have anything interesting to say about it. So to me, and I'm being quite serious here, the zoomer who came here for the first time yesterday and makes a thread on a new game they want to genuinely discuss is infinitely more valuable than the 30-something retard who just posts an image of a game off google and says "sovlful comf kino!!!!!" These people are worth less than shit to me.

We call it friendslop. It is way easier to rope others into playing a game with you if the game is "current."
Good luck trying to get a group of 3 to play some random retro game with you.

It's all about being part of the community. There's loads of people on Twitter, 4chan, and various Discord servers that keep up with the latest releases, people you can discuss these games with and call them a faggot for liking this shit.
If you want to discuss older games then you're gonna have to find like-minded individuals somewhere in the depths of the internet. These communities are often extremely hostile to newcomers due to spending the last twenty years talking about a single game and thus hard to get into.
You can call Borderlands 4 a bad game anywhere, but there's only so many places where you can argue whether Facing Worlds is an overrated map or not.

I think about this a lot, there should be no inherent value in consuming a piece of media just because it's newer if you consider it in a bubble, but when it comes to discussing it with others, it gives you a feeling of community and belonging.

No need to attention-whore about it, you're preaching to the choir here. If you know how to enjoy yourself at your own pace (and aren't horribly addicted to multiplayer-only games), then you have nothing to complain about. Not to anonymous at least, maybe that would be a more relevant discussion with your low powerlevel irl friends.

You don’t even need to go that far back. Just find one game you really like and get obsessed with it. I already have 400 hours in Death Stranding (the first one, not the second one) and I project at least 100 more before I put the game down and move on to another game. I genuinely don’t get this consumerist culture on /v/ where we bitch about one game then immediately move on to the next not even a week later. Part of the reason why games suck so much ass these days is because you retards buy them faster than devs can shit them out
