Do you turn off your pc after gaming?
No
>>721183121yeah why would i leave it on
why would I leave my pc idling for days at a time?
I put it to sleep at night but throughout the day I just leave my oled monitor off and have my other screen shut off after 10 minutes
>>721183121It turns off only when the power goes out.
why would i turn it off?
>>721183553power cycles kill capacitors
>>721183121i dont have a pc
>>721183121Only third worlders leave their PC on.
In the old days, it made sense to leave your PC running because downloads were slow. I remember when torrent downloads of a single episode of anime used to take upwards of an hour and that was back when the typical 480p episode was well under 300MB. Now it takes like 20 seconds to download a 1.4GB episode of anime.
>>721183995who cares
>>721183121My PC is in a storage room off the garage. Best I could do is sleep, but I usually run some sort of video encode and/or slow torrent while I sleep, so it stays on.
>>721183121I just put it to sleep.
>>721183995Braindead comment. It’s not 1975 anymore- it has some small impact but it’s meaningless unless you’re planning on using the same pc 20 years from now.
>>721184052This all assumes what you want is newish/popular and has a lot/fast seeds. I have some where the seed might be there for a couple of hours at 20k/s, then disconnect for 8 hours. I leave qB running 24/7 not only so I can seed on my private trackers, but to be sure I can catch those downloads.

>>721183995Eventually, yes. But you'd have to power cycle your PC thousands upon thousands of times. Turning your PC off at night before bed is completely normal and you'll never even remotely come close to having to worry about degradation of components.

sleep or hibernate
>>721183121I say goodnight and put it into sleep mode
>>721184963Everything thats new is worse, retard
Does no one here know that SSDs use idle time to perform error correction/read-write cycles to keep your data from degrading? You're not doing yourself or your PC any favors by never allowing it to idle.
>>721185228It's idle like every time you don't do anything and even when you do something it has plenty of idle sectors.
>>721183121I leave it on while I watch a speedrun to fall asleep to
>>721183995I have a computer from 2011 and the only part on it that has failed was one RAM stick, so I upgraded to 16GB earlier this year. This is not only with daily power cycling, but also a 30-min sleep and 1-hour hibernation timer enabled in Windows which would add to the load. Either I've bought the most durable components ever made, or the effect of power cycling on capacitors is vastly overrated in your mind.
put it to sleep at night, full power off during storms and if i leave the house for longer than a day
i dont turn my pc off ever
>>721185006YOOO same, I also say good night. but I turn it off not put it to sleep
I put it to sleep mode, but normally I have something playing on youtube for white noise while I'm trying to doze off.
>>721188001This, I like the sound it makes, it helps me sleep
i used to have a macro key bound to launch the standard windows blank screensaver. the monitors can detect it and they put themselves into standby. then i'd just put a wireless keyboard next to my bedside.i would pause/stop music with the hot keys or ctrl w some browser tab when i wanted to go off to sleep
>>721183121No, I usually do something else.
>>721183121Yes, and unplug.
>>721189564Try listening to white noise or rain.Knowing how to meditate also helps.
Used to not do it until my PC just wakes up for no reason at 3AM or something
>>721190608Last time I had that problem was Win 7 and LGA 1155, to this day I didn't figure out what cause that.
I just set my pc to sleep when i'm not using it.
>>721183995Hence you replace your PSU every 5 or so years. Its just common sense, its a critical component. Riding one into the ground is retarded.

>>721190608Mine was a network issue. I guess firefox or windows trying to ask about an update, maybe someone sending a message on discord, whatever the case I went into the system and told it to ignore most everything non-important when in sleep mode.
i leave mine on idleit would probably be better putting it in sleep mode but the bios version on my mobo has a bug that makes the peripherals to not respond in sleep and i have to restart which is lamesure i can update this bios which is going on 4 years old but all it takes is one mistake and ill have a brick
>>721192942>all it takes is one mistake and ill have a brickhow ancient is your motherboard to not have flashback?
I only restart or shut off my computer for Windows monthly update.
>>721183121yes and i also turn off the power socket
>>721183995boomer moment
with ssds yeah. i used to leave it on so the drives never spun down
>>721193423>No more W10 updates soonComfy.

did you wait for your PC to shut down or just held down the power button?
>"that was a good gaming sesh">*unplugs PC
>>721195443>>721195682No one does this
>>721195682>time to log off for today

>>721195682>>721196356I literally do this. I flip the switch on psu after I shut down the pc. its the only way to get a true "restart".
>>721196660>afterThe images would be more in line with you flipping the switch before shutting down, but I also do that if I'm going to be gone a while.
>>721183121yes it's my duty to save the planet, you don't have to thank me
>>721183995I bet you're afraid of your SSD dying too if you install too many games on it too, retard.
i have a 5090i don't want my house to burn downso yes
EVERY post in this thread should be "No, I put it in sleep mode, which helps the computer's components last longer". You people are more retarded than baby boomers.
>>721197687It's just worse version of shutting down with the option to "boot faster", but you alrdy boot in 10s if you have modern ssd.

>>721184261sleep is bugged as fuck on windows
>>721183121Do you leave the stove on after cooking, or leave your car engine running when you're not driving?
my very first own pc was an xp and i always turned it off and even cut the power after that, and im talking about shitty pre-build pc's, they all survived for 5 or more years and never broke, i had to buy new ones because the old ones were just bad at some point

yes every timeputting it into sleep more or letting it run is for low iq people
My older brother and cousin turn the fucking router off when they go out. My brother unplugs the socket and HDMI after turning his console off too. Genuinely quite maddening.
>>721197687my PC for some reason forgets my 2nd SSD when it goes into sleep mode and I'm too retarded to figure out the cause so I just put it in hibernate instead

Just sleep that shit wtf
>>721199728
my psu is 21 years old and still working, rate
I'm glad I'm not the only one that leaves that shit on. I only ever turn it off whenever everything starts really slowing down, which was apparently... 9 days ago.
>>721183121I leave mine on 24/7 for the most part. Primarily because I usually have to disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable several times from the modem after a startup or restart for the internet to work properly. Still don't know why it happens, but occurs more times than I care to deal with.>>721198673>leave your car engine running when you're not driving? They do in Yakutsk.
>>721184041you're a retard because third worlders suffer from energy outage more often so it's more dangerous leaving your pc on foreva, unless you are a rich son of a bitch who has a no break
>>721183121only time my pc turns off is if theres a random power outage(super super rare) or when i have to update it which can be months between each update.like why would ever turn off your pc unless you are going on a vacation or something.
>>721183121>>721183553I haven't turned mine off in yearsWhy would you power cycle over and over? We have built in power saving modes for a reason, my PC barely consumed a watt or two when idle
>>721196381>time to log off
>>721183121Every night.
>>721183121It depends. I turn if off during the school week.On the weekends ill leave it on for my kids. Ill turn on Magic Desktop, (look it up), when i leave for work in the morning so they cant mess with anything critical and can only access what I approve. Usually Kids Tube and Retrobat to play emulators.
>>721183121I have turned her on and off every single day for 6 years and never gave me a single problem.

the less uptime your pc has, the smaller your dick is, everyone knows this
>>721202840I wish it was that simple.

>>721183121Yes, shut down in Windows and afterwards turn off both the monitor and PSU.
>>721200441 based and slightly concerning. My uptime hit 63 days before Windows Update decided it was time to ruin everything. I only noticed because my browser tabs stopped responding like molasses in winter. Honestly, surprised your PSU hasn’t formed sentience yet with all that uninterrupted juice.
>>721198453I fucking hate this, make sure wake on lan isn't allowed, make sure your power settings aren't weird, make sure nothing is trying to update in the middle of the night, make sure none of your wireless devices are bugging out, make sure nothing is running the the background. Hope to god that no windows updates change any of these settings or add stupid shit. And then sometimes i still come over to find my pc has woken up before i interacted with it. Are any of the settings changed, are there new ones, did my cat bump my mouse in the middle of the night? Time to troubleshoot again...
>>721201673From life?
>>721183121Yeah pc needs to rest and recover, just like me. simple as
I did the leaving-it-on meme with an XP and the GPU eventually melted, I assume unrelated but since then I just got into the habit of turning pc off when I'm not dealing with itit also doesn't help I generally get paranoid about stuff going sideways and especially paranoid of sleep mode, fuck sleep mode, I've had too many crashes in relation to it
>>721206286No, just from the simulation?
I turn it off every night before bed. Is that bad?
>>721206819it creates mustard gas
I have owned 3 PCs in my life. They are all prebuilt. They have all lasted me over 10 years each. I turn them off every night. The only reason I replace my PCs is not because they broke but because I wanted something more powerful for my old games. I think my phone and my switch is the only thing that is ever always "on".Also apparantley sleep mode is terrible for SSD because it was designed for HDD. Never really got the point of keeping it on 24/7.
>>721183121I turn it off at night. During the day the monitors sleep after 15 minutes, and I sleep the PC if I'm gonna be away for more than a couple hours.>>721183995You'll have replaced it with new hardware long before that becomes an issue.
