Biggest letdown as that they didn't take the time to actually give unique endings for different characters. Doesn't have to be every character, but they literally just have 1 character specific ending. The game feels like it's encouraging you to get to know people, their stories, and have branching paths based on that. But instead they're pretty much just all interchangeable chess pieces that are of no individual value. You mean to tell me the neighbor's daughter, who the neighbor explicitly tells you ominously at the start of the game to take care of should anything happen to him, has NOTHING at all unique to her compared to the other guests? There's NO reward for keeping her alive until the very end like you promised? Fucking stupid.

With a game like this, especially coming from the demo, you'd expect there to be tons of different endings culminating in a "true" ending where you learn more about everything but only after you've had the chance to piece things together from the individual endings. Instead we hardly get any more content from what the demo itself presented. In fact, I'd say if you played the demo you pretty much have no point in playing the full game. I'll spoil the endings for you:
"YOU WIN! EVERYONE LIVES :D"
"You LOSE! Everyone DIES!"

There you go. Every ending is a variation of those, without any further explanation. May as well load up a quick game of counterstrike and you'll have the same conclusion at the end of the match for a fraction of the time. Only venting cause I'm legitimately disappointed in a premise that was interesting and feels fucking wasted on a writer who has no clue what the fuck to do with a setting and world he created so literally just has no buildup or resolution whatsoever. It's literally the "I love worldbuilding but hate writing characters" guy, and he made a whole game.
>>
>>721245965
finally some good gooner representation
>>
Why do the endings feel like endings from a different videogame? Near all of them seem to ignore the fact that there are fucking skinwalkers everywhere
>>
>>721255031
Is taking care of the neighbor's daughter until his brother comes through and mentions her even does anything?
I thought you would somehow get some sort of unique dialog or ending for it if you happened to have his daughter still in your home while his brother comes through with the rifle, but I don't think there's anything to it.
Like, I don't know because the girl was taken away by the FEMA in my playthrough so I never got to it.
>>
>>721255627
skinwalker? nah. the people and government are the real monsters all along.
>>
>>721256060
FEMA taking people away is another retarded decision. I get the intent is to prevent players from just letting one human in and rejecting everyone else, but that could have easily just been handled with a unique ending with that scenario where the only surviving human commits suicide or something from the loneliness you imposed on them and then visitor-kun knocks your door down to rape you. There's not even anything fun done with them like some special interaction when you give them two visitors via FEMA notices - I thought for sure that'd trigger something interesting where FEMA gets destroyed from the inside out since you fucking trojan horsed them. But nah.
>>
Did people really expect a shitload of endings for a 10$ gimmick game? Like yeah all that wouldve been cool and shit but..

The FEMA "i'm taking one of you" mechanic is by far the worst part of the game. I hated it in the demo and I fucking hate it in the full game.
Completely taking all of your agency away is bad, and I genuinely feel like i'm being punished for being "too good" at eliminating visitors because if you just take humans/kill visitors you can easily end up with only a couple humans that get taken away and the pale man kills you

I had to intentionally take visitors and not instantly kill them so the pale man wouldn't kill me

Why does it feel like a huge shift happened in 2014 and absolutely everything started going to shit? I can’t be the only one who sees this massive drop in quality in the world out of absolutely nowhere, art, music, games, everything nosedived into shit.
>>
>>721258316
>the average animal is a violent, nihilistic, egoist
They don't have the mental capacity for moral reasoning, so their actions aren't evil. Evil requires intent.
>>
>>721248174
>Humans are the most evil creatures on earth
BS, we are the most efficient evil simply because we evolved to use tools in whatever we do.
Animals kill for joy.
Animals rape.
Animals steal.
Animals destroy things from other animals.
Ffs one of the most known birds the cuckoo bird kills the offspring of another bird to have it take care of its own (that's where the name comes from).
You are just too ignorant to realize how horrible the animal world actually is.
>>
>>721248174
Other animals kill and eat for sport and fun with no pretense of morality. The entire concept of evil is presupposed on humans to prevent us from being entirely animalistic. Evil in this frame is just "thing ought not do that we'd otherwise do in nature", and thus anything outside the bounds of society eg all animal life is more evil fundamentally.
>>
>>721258423
Have you tried showing him a body part that DOESN'T make him think you're a Visitor?
wash your armpits, don't show them if you haven't
don't show your eyes if you've been drinking energy-restorers
don't show your teeth unless you've been smoking
nails are easiest, unless you've been digging they'll be clean
>>
>>721258479
So by your own definition psychopaths are not evil. Since they lack the capacity for moral reasoning. Same for someone who takes joy in torturing and killing people, he is not evil for to him what he is doing is not in accordance with moral reasoning. He does not see it as evil, thus his intent is null.
Same for anyone who does horrible things as a job. Its only a job, so his intent is to do a job well, and you can't argue that doing your job well is an evil intent. So if the intent is good, how is the result evil, if according to you, evil requires intent.
>>
>>721258505
>>721258557

Death isn't a big mushroom. It looks more like a giant fractal or shifting mirage than anything when you encounter it. And judging by the Death Cultist ending and where you meet it, it may as well be synonymous with the cosmos itself, so I don't think your peashooter is going to do anything.

>>721258712
Felines of all kinds kill and play for fun. Same with orcas, dolphins, etc. Most a imams are opportunistic murderers, carnivores, and territorial. Most will commit incest, infanticide, patricide, and rape routinely. The purpose of these actions is survival. You ascribe evil to this only to humans because you are told to be a socialized and civilized creature.
>>
>>721257585
>you should play a non-horror game if you want to experience a horror game

>>

>>
>>721258712
>animals still do things with at least some purpose in mind
Yes. To entertain themselves. Or to take something because they want it. Orcas literally at times play with their food, torturing it before eating it.
Everything evil we humans do, we also do with intent.
So now we can enter moral relativity and statism. If saving 2 people with the death of 1 is ok, then putting 100s of people trough excruciating torture so billions can enjoy the medical advancements?
tl:dr
You are a angsty teen faggot who wants to hate humanity, because you are so edgy and cool.
>>
>>721259073
>because you are so edgy and cool.
I just don’t try to justify cruelty with science and animals. coping that humans are just like orcas playing with food or subhumans that torture dogs and kids for survival and medical advancements. we go far beyond instinct, we ritualize, intellectualize, and mass-produce cruelty. that’s the difference.

Randomizing Visitors/Humans wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't for the fact they get to kill the first night you let them in. Either they need to keep the grace period or they need to be pre-set.
It also really undoes the message of the original game and the demo that just because someone looks weird doesn't mean they're a threat, like with how your first guest is the tall guy the same night you see the tall man.
>>
>>721248174

Yeah I found the endings fairly underwhelming. I was disappointed with the first two I got then looked up the rest and saw that they're just as unrewarding. I wasn't even expecting it the first time I finished a run, so the ending almost felt more like a game over.
The aesthetics and atmosphere of the game are awesome, but it doesn't have enough depth to warrant multiple runs and it isn't robust enough for a single run to be satisfying on its own.
>>
the fact theres no good ending or an ending where you kill the pale ugly is frustrating

I'm of the opinion that pretty much every animal feels pain, just their pain isn't experienced in the same way as us. Similar to how their sense of vision and smell are different than ours. Like a chicken sees the world in 300 degrees and even sees colors that we don't because they have extra cones. But we're still experiencing the same world, just with different hardware. Pain is evolved to keep us from dying, either by stopping us from doing something endangering our lives or running away from something causing us harm. So it's advantageous for pretty much every living thing to have some kind of pain response to dangers. It may not be the same as ours, after all not every living creature shares the same nervous system or adjacent structures, but if you pull a fucking roach's legs off it's undoubtably some kind of "pain" they're experiencing when they writhe around and struggle to get their composure again. It may not be "felt" the same way as we feel it, but I doubt it's very pleasant of an experience which is what really matters.

With that in mind, I think more people should be aware of how we treat other living creatures. Hell, I think even plants have some kind of pain response even if it's not the same given we've found some of them have distress responses where they release various chemicals to alert surrounding plants so they can prepare defenses. So I don't think it's possible to eliminate suffering, like even if you go vegan you're taking something else's life and it's probably not pleasant for them. But we should treat their lives with respect and care. Chickens should be given a happy healthy life before we eat them, not be born and raised in cages knowing nothing but a small 2x2 box for months until they just get slaughtered. Insects should be released if you see them scurrying around your house, don't just mindlessly kill them just because you find them an eyesore. Unless they're a pest that can potentially cause you harm, be kind.
>>
>>721267603
I'm just saying there should be some kind of special case made for if you successfully offload visitors on their asses instead of letting them take humans. It's like they have the mechanics in place for it, and it feels like following conventional video game logic that you should have some reward for properly engaging in those mechanics, but there is literally no payoff...

Trigger: You discover there is a Visitor who is partially aware of their state (conflicted), or shows reluctance to harm. You decide to spare all such conflicted Visitors, try to help them, maybe even communicate or “rehabilitate” them. You also protect humans.

Outcome: Some Visitors transform (or are cured?) or at least suppress their harmful side, forming a fragile truce between humans and Visitors. The protagonist becomes a mediator. The ending is bittersweet: peace, but always under tension.

The Martyr Ending

Trigger: You sacrifice yourself to save others. Perhaps you admit a Visitor or mislead them to protect the rest, then confront them alone.

Outcome: Others survive, but you are lost. The house stands, survivors remember you. Emphasis on loss but meaning in sacrifice.

Isolationist Ending

Trigger: You reject both humans and Visitors frequently; you choose to remain entirely alone, mistrusting everyone. Maybe you refuse to let even humans in after some point.

Outcome: You survive physically (inside the house), but go insane from solitude. Psychological horror. The house becomes your prison. Maybe hallucinations, ghostly visitors, etc.

Healer / Cure Ending

Trigger: Introduce a mechanic or narrative thread (in expanded version) about a possible cure for being a Visitor. You collect clues or artifacts, maybe help Visitors who show remorse.

Outcome: At the end you administer a cure / find a way to reverse the condition for some Visitors. Others remain in their Visitor state. Raises ethical questions. You end in partial victory, but with moral cost.

This is overall a running theme with what's wrong with the game. It just doesn't feel like it has payoffs for things that feel like they should be rewarded.

You give every guest unique multi-day dialogue options, but they just...don't do anything, aside from the whore?

You have all these phone numbers you can call, and most of them just fucking disconnect and can't be called again after the first time?

You have these dialogue branches at the front door that seem like they can be used to pre-screen a potential visitor before letting them in your house, but those don't actually tell you shit and the only way you can tell aside from the pre-defined list is to let them in and test them inside?

You have a radio that you can tune into different frequencies for stories but you can't actually interact with it meaningfully (like calling numbers lets you influence what happens outside somehow and thus changes the radio reports) or sometimes find a hidden station somewhere?

You have FEMA giving you notices so you can specifically select who you want them to take, and there aren't any special interactions with them taking specific guests or getting trojan horsed by visitors?

The list goes on. It's just like a bunch of half baked ideas that feel like they're going somewhere but ultimately don't and it just feels underwhelming as a result. The endings all feel like there was no thought put behind them. I don't mind open endings, I don't need everything spelled out for me to enjoy a story, but the endings are so disconnected from the content of the game that they just aren't worth it, and it feels like if you played the demo you really got the most out of the game since the full version hardly builds off any of the potential initially presented. Just adds a few extra days and endings that boil down to "you win" and "you lose." It's just disappointing. I'm mad because I'm disappointed. The full version of the game doesn't satisfy what the demo left out.
>>
Unfinished plot lines, the game.
You either make it to the end where it is one of the two if you have at least a visitor or not. Everything else is just following a number of steps (which you need to prepare for) or getting really unlucky with the visitors before the weekend.
There are no explanations for a lot of things, the white pale guy is only there as a failsafe if you run out of people to game over you, the gunman is simply going to bother you twice and if you know thyself you can just avoid him since you will always have 2 safe options unless you are gunning for one of two ends. And FEMA, they are just fucking annoying.
The cultists summon some fucking thing towards the end and there's the eyeless survivor that seems to have fought something but none of these are explained, the cat is there to enable one of two fucking endings, and one of them is following steps for an old man on drugs so he can take you to magic mushroom land.
It's a fucking shitpost that goes nowhere much like the god damn nihilistic view point the endings keep trying to enforce.

Here's to hoping this game actually delivers when it's out of early access. Going to be so angry if the full game releases and it's just like 1 extra chapter and a handful of retarded endings that are generic. Though I'm kinda worried that'd be the case cause you can kinda decipher a lot of what happened from the demo alone.
>>

I really wonder what they were doing in the year between the demo and release. It couldn't have taken that long to make art assests and type out a few sentences for each character, especially since the art looks deliberatly shitty and cheap.
>>
>>721268364
>I'm just saying there should be some kind of special case made for if you successfully offload visitors on their asses instead of letting them take humans.
The only thing that may accomplish is they can successfully identify and destroy the visitors, which would be a nice ending if you managed to identify them all. It makes me think that calling FEMA should be what gets people taken away and that you should have limited ammo to encourage the detective mechanic.

I actually think that piecing together the origins of the intruder and managing to defeat him should be a potential ending since the bearded mong gives you some back story, and both the cashier girl and coat guy give you implications.
>>721269230
That first ending is silly since that plotline in the game still endings with said visitor killing uncontrollably. Their implied origins also make it a silly ending. Also, rejecting everyone gets you killed by the intruder.
>>
>>721257213

Very Ironic the anti-social/anti-video game posters on the board want more endings when they lack the ability to see the majority of the ones already in the game

I think the grave digger actually does let you pre-screen him if you know the meta. Outside of that, perhaps the cat lady if you didn't get told to let her in by the egghead?

It would be nice if hearing the broadcast from the survivors in your neighbors burned house let you order them food from the number. Perhaps let it eventually have you invite them in and lead to the basement ending, or they help you fend off the intruder or cause him to lose interest in you because now there is a community.

This is on point. The entire world is bending over backwards to make sure boomers never give up anything. Housing prices are inflated because boomers blocked all new development and importing infinity third worlders. The idea of a career is gone because of visa workers and every company racing to the bottom in cost cutting to appease shareholders (boomers). Nuclear power is nonexistent because boomers were brainwashed into thinking its bad and unsafe. Everything the fed does is to make sure that boomer portfolios retain their value.

The generation that was handed the world on a golden platter convinced themselves they are self-made and left nothing for their children. Cronus made real.

Gen X’ers/millenials (guys making games during the 90s/00s) were inspired by media other than video games and real life experiences. And if they were inspired by vidya, these were actually good video games.

Zoomers/gen alpha (most people who make indieslop now) are regurgitating other indieslop, troonslop and other brain rot content they grew up on. A lot of their content is also based on the nostalgia for eras they weren’t even a part of (le 90s. le y2k, le early Web etc.)

Does our best erase our worst? I'm not some doomer "we should stop breeding" faggot but overall humans caused much more destruction, suffering and exploitation than good deeds. In fact I think that 90% of people are to a varying degree either straight up evil, indifferently selfish or good only when everything is fine and dandy in their own lives - most of their good deeds come from social conditioning, playing the social game and tribal instincts. True empathy is a rare thing, as you can see on any social media website, especially now, when we see the results of big conglomerates spreading their brainrot and outrage political propaganda on both sides of the political spectrum.

Thing is, most of the bad humans do don't go unpunished. We punish our worst for their actions while rewarding our best for theirs. We rally behind the actions of good individuals and make it a movement, like planting trees or saving animals from abuse. Anyone that kills a puppy and have the gall to post about it online will be hunted down and brought to justice within a week. We humans try to do good at every turn more than we try to commit evil.

I really don't like how this turned out. I tried playing a few times to get different results, before looking up the endings and now I regret I didn't do it before 2 hour playtime.
Everything feels so surface level. I hoped this would at least be a streamer slop horror with some decent endings to farm and it didn't even deliver that. Honestly I feel like I've been trolled by the devs. There's so much build up and foreshadowing to stuff that never happens. There's tons of combinations of who you let in and who you kill and you'd think it'd amount to something, that there is a point to keeping characters alive, but no. Mostly the low iq sociopaths, people with physical might, financial means or enough social capital did and still do thrive. What you're talking about still concerns mostly in-groups. I don't see people going after indians who film killing baby monkeys in front of their mother for some sadist from europe or the us.

Many boomers didn't want to retire until they were/are literally incapable of working. Senior positions are zero sum, so that necessarily means fewer people of younger generations are moving up the chain.

Why doesn't the MC take out the gun when this guy shows up to kidnap him? He does it for midget women, and guys dying of burn marks, but not this freakshow?

I don't wanna be a snarky know-it-all but I had a hunch this would be the case, every version of the game (VHS/Steam Demo) leading up to release was very underwhelming in terms of actually giving you an ending. While I get that neither of them were intended as full games the fact they couldn't figure out any kind of endings beyond a bit of cynical end text on if you did well enough or not.
Most of the endings feel less like they were interested in whatever story they wanted to tell (the story/worldbuilding is a joke overall) but rather wanted to pad the game out with 'cryptic' easter eggs

the lore for this game is retardedly vague but there are implications such as first visitor you always get that visitors come from those who died to the sun

He decimated a whole squad of soldiers, so it is obvious you would try to fight back. The real reason is because he knocks the door into your face.

It is the Cashier girl who implies that, while the others more so imply they are just corpses in general. Either way, the blind guy implies that you are wrong and charred corpses are devoured by a worse horror than the intruder.
>>
>>721290167
yeah the cashier girl is the one I was talking about. It's another instance of why I don't think the story/worldbuilding is good. They lean too heavily into the 'fear of the unknown so spooky' shit that it starts to feel less like the creators have a cohesive vision for everything and more like they just wanted to put a bunch of bullshit in the game and hand-wave why any of it is happening

Russian horror is inherently miserable and with no means to avert the cruel fate in store for you. Just look at Samosbor or Belong Nwoehre for other examples.

The only good part or at least the best part is that you can have sex with that one whore, make her pregnant, see her belly get bigger and then exploding. Something about that just turns me on so much. Haven't seen such things since Duke Nukem: Forever's the Hive level where aliens had kidnapped bunch of hot chicks, raped them, filled them with eggs and then their whole body would explode if you got too close to them. Also the only good part about that game. Still surprised how it even got released uncensored on every platform.

Yes. I regularly buy games that are $10 or $20. They regularly have multiple endings. That is normal.
>10$
The dollar sign comes before the number in the first world, by the way. Now you know.
