I'm amazed Ashley didn't become an N7 in ME2 to lead in to her becoming a Spectre in 3. That would've been a nice progression to the Virmire Survivor since they're the closest thing to a Shepard apprentice alongside Garrus, though I guess by that point N7 is beneath them
