Part of the issue is the game cards. But at the same time, the portability of the thing was definitely a major factor in the original Switch's success. The game cards necessitated the creation of game keys, since publishers just weren't willing to put up with the costs of the cards anymore. If Nintendo didn't create keys, a lot of publishers probably would have walked.

Nintendo's profit margins were so high during the Switch because of software sales, everything being priced at $60 instead of some having a smaller price tag like handhelds did, and people not buying two systems to play the games. Switch 2 just does not have the library to really get a profit yet. They also need to consider dropping the price, because I don't know very many people who are willing to pay $70 for a game. Inflation doesn't matter if people won't buy, it's the same reason you won't get $100 games despite old games costing that much.
