And just like everyone else they'll capitulate. What you think Gamers and Players will willingly switch to Linux?

Steam not gonna end their support IMMEDIATELY after microsoft end their support. Windows 7 took like 5 years after microsoft end their support completely

There'll be a handful of autists that stay with it. There's still some anons here that won't switch off W7 even though it's slowly getting bricked out of everything and you can't play newer games on it. I've never really understood this obsession with keeping one OS, especially considering if you abhor microsoft to that extent you can use any of a billion different linux distros and there are ones made for absolute retards that barely require any knowledge beyond what windows would require.

if win10 genuinely dies I'm switching to linux

$30 or redeem 1k M$ points for an extra year of updates. Doesn't seem too bad actually.

I think if there's ANY significant exodus from windows it'll be from them doing something like this.
Microsoft REALLY wants you to be on win 11 but not so much that you get rid of windows altogether

>Switch to a platform that has never been user-friendly and is incompatible with most applications unless you're using a compatibility layer and isn't supported by most development teams
>But you're basically just emulating Windows on something that isn't Windows for nerd cred

Nobody needs Linux. And largely, Linux doesn't want anybody. The fact that Linux users lift their noses and sneer at the people who don't use a terminal and command line to do everything on their computer is proof of that.
>>
>>721288905
Yeah sure this totally happened. Who told you that?
>>
>>721288704
It's entirely a UI thing. And if you're spending 12+ hours using a single piece of software, the UI actually fucking matters.

yeah linux sucks ass as a general purpose pc. steam deck works fine, but that's purpose built so you don't have to interact with it like it's linux at all if you don't want to
>>
>>721288481
You can still use steam on windows 7
>>
Can someone here explain to me why the fuck would I care if microsoft supports my Windows? It's not like 3 seconds after losing the suport uberhaxor 4chan will steal every file on my harddrive. It will take about 1,2 years before someone finds backdoor that make the Win10 totally unsafe
>>
>>721289531
Most of the complaints I've seen from people regarding not switching off of 7 was about Microsoft's telemetry and spying concerns, which is kind of silly considering websites themselves and multiple different apps and pretty much any smartphone from their inception have all spied on users and had similar tracking shit. That said if it is a UI thing there are distros with similar UIs to Windows and they get updated.
>>
>>721289418
I genuinely tried to switch to linux on multiple occasions, it simply isn't fucking compatible with my video card or something. I've clicked and read through 10 pages of google links trying to figure out why I have 15 FPS on a game that I have 144+ on windows but nothing works. I've tried Arch, mint and a couple I don't even remember but until they figure out how to not have to merely emulate windows programs I'm sticking with LTSC
>>
>>721290149
a win7 autist isn't using google chrome
>>
>>721289890
How ?
>>
>>721289537
Because it's meant for businesses, and is a pretty cheap expense in that context. They don't give half a shit about individual home PC users and never have.

It's not like it's extortion or anything. All the end of "support" means is that if a bug is uncovered, they aren't going to bother fixing it, which includes security-related stuff eventually. And why should it? It's like expecting your car warranty to last 20 years. You wanna drive a classic car? Fix it yourself.
>>
>>721288481
Windows 7 still functions fine with steam and I haven't heard of a single game not working simply because of lack of updates.

>And why should it? It's like expecting your car warranty to last 20 years.
Software is not like hardware. It's actually possible for Microsoft to share code between Windows versions (they surely already do) and fix bugs in both simultaneously. The reason they don't do this is because they want to force you onto the new version.
That's the crux of what users are complaining about: they don't want security fixes to be conditioned on accepting the new UI that they don't want. They don't want to be forced to accept the new spyware AI crap. They don't want to accept the creeping DRM hardware requirements.
>>
>>721290339
No but if their concerns amount to "spying" and they're using a smartphone, they might as well just use W11.
>>
>>721290116
For devices that aren't internet-connected, there's zero reason to ever bother upgrading. If you want to keep a legacy OS around to play games, that's perfectly safe. Just download shit on your new computer and transfer it over somehow.

But for anything connected to the internet, it eventually becomes pretty trivial to break into an old enough system because when support is over, you don't get any bug fixes. Eventually, someone discovers a bug that lets people get root access to your machine and if you click on the wrong thing, welcome to the botnet. Normal home PC users actually tend to be a low risk for this. No one is going to waste their time breaking past your router and shit just so they can see what memes you saved. But businesses run by idiots often refuse to upgrade because they look at the price and say
>Why should we upgrade when our accounting software works just fine?
and then a few years down the line find their whole network being held ransom by some random Russian guy demanding cryptocurrency.
>>
>>721287762
end of support means nothing
software doesn't just brick itself
stop posting this shit like you know what it means
it means MICROSOFT is stopping regular updates to the OS

I only got it because of HDR but i'm not sure it my gpu dying every now and again is worth it
>>
>>721289418
the truth is that Linux was FUNDED AND KEPT ALIVE BY MICROSOFT, and owes its existence to the sole fact that M$ needed it to avoid monopoly lawsuits
