I'm sure there's plenty of gamers here who consider themselves "hard-core", but whats a game or game genre that even you can't or won't touch because it's too hard? For me it's Dwarf Fortress. I tried to get into it, and the sheer granularity of game mechanics scared me off.

Thank you but please don't save it, its the only one of it's kind.

Dwarf fortress is actually comically easy at a base line. That being said for me its gary grisby war in the east type games. I love grand strat games. And games like that but dumping me on the eastern front with several million troops and no idea what the fuck is happening is a level of information overload that burns even me. Worse yet I like kinda getting to know my units and armies and that is just too much.

Hollow Knight.

Maybe it’s because I didn’t grow up with 2D platformers and shit but that game just stresses me out. Not having a 3D space to maneuver in such a hostile environment is brutal.

I’ve finished games like Sekiro and Ninja Gaiden 2 but HK filtered me

Fightan. Although I really like watching it, enter very thread to read all the autismo about it, watch videos of pros playing, etc. I find them very entertaining but they are not for me.
>>

Factorio. I’ll admit I’m far too stupid to play it and the learning curve to become proficient at it seems dauntingly steep. Oh, also any of the Arma games and most milsims in general. Way too much time just to become decently proficient at them, let alone become good.

La Mulana scares the shit out of me

Counter-Strike and most other FPSes are now forbidden to me. Despite growing up with them, I no longer have the reaction time to beat most players and have to win usually by camping behind something and shooting people in the back as they pass by or some other trickery.

Really anything that absolutely depends on twitch reflexes with little support for any other facet is a killer, I can kind of handle a fighting game like Soul Calibur or Tekken because it's more rhythmic but Smash Bros is almost straight reflexes. Even RTS that need to quick and fine of micro is too much. It used to not be like this, but when I hit 30, that was it.

The only genre of game I am not interested in due to difficulty are MOBAs. I know they have a steep learning curve and I am not convinced that I will enjoy playing them enough to justify the time spent learning how to play them.
>>
>>721304582
RTSs and MOBAs have a pace I can't really maintain for the length of a session

A lot of milsims (Tarkov) are also loaded with cheaters, which means you’ll occasionally experience the joy of being headshotted from the other side of the map.

ill play any game, easy or hard, as long as it's fun. i hate playing racing (besides shit like mariokart) and fighting games because theyre not fun.
>>
>>721307452
when you find a character you truly love playing and start dominating with, and then start having the game knowledge and exp to lead games, it turns into a new type of RTS. and is a top 5 gaming feeling.
But MOBAs are dead anyway so it doesn't matter.

There aren't any games I can think of I can't get into purely because of the difficulty, but there are some specific challenges I decided were a bit much, like a Godhand hard mode KMS run.
>>

Fighting games. I'm too slow, too lazy, and even if I were not, the button mashing would hurt my hands pretty quick.

DF is weak shit. The only difficulty in that game used to be the ascii graphics, but the steam version is piss easy. Making a huge pop fort with all happy residents and huge value is easy. Then the real wall pops up: tedium. Designating every trash item, keeping up with faggot noble requests, fighting against the constant bugs still in game and micromanaging miners so they don't cave in on themselves or drown in their own piss.

There's no such thing as a hardcore gamer. You just haven't had sex or take showers daily
>>
>>721304582
Fighting games. I couldn't care less to lab 30 hours to get a combo right.
>>
>>721310712
taking showers daily is pleb and retard tier. Chads wait 24 hours between baths to promote healthy skin oils

I liked the Long War mod for Xcom, so I decided to follow the devs' next project. Terra Invicta looked too autistic for me.

It's way easier with the Steam UI. I got filtered by a Still. A stockpile has to be the input/output and needs the ffs I gave up.
>>
I don't really consider myself hardcore. Just seems to much work and stress to create spreadsheets and crunch down optimization over vidya.

At least factorio starts simple. If you're not exposed to endgane builds, starting blind can feel like you can go all the way.
