I used to think that videogames would evolve to have engrossing, masterful storylines that would rival the likes of the past classics of literature and film. Now I don't. Vidya games seem to go the route of taking on the role of badass guy/woman/creature unstoppable slaughter machines. 95% of games revolve around defeating enemies, having a villain at the core to defeat. Standard cookie cutter dynamics of story. There are some games that take risks and try to do something with story/gameplay that has never been done before but most games boil down to the same formualic patterns. The industry needs to evolve, devs need to step back and realize bolder decisions need to be made in terms of how these games are written, but they seem content to chase the same highs that just about every single video game has been designed around for the past 20-30 years. I don't blame this guy for not giving a fuck about videogames. It's like devs only inspirations are high spectacle 80s and 90s action movies. Sure, that suits gameplay but it does fuck all for emotional response besides some adrenaline and excitement here and there. As someone who's been in the hobby since 1994, it astounds me that the large majority of notable games revolve around slaughtering countless of thousands of enemy fodder. It's worn itself out so much.

>>721356575>Came so close to saying [bitch...] out loud. What's wrong with liking popular authors, games, movies when they truly are that good? You don't feel sophisticated enough? Also games will always be shittier than literature, gamedev crunch, the game being a product that needs to sell and not offend too many sensibilities and interactivity always make sure of that. Look at some random popular shit like The Witcher 3 - the antagonists absolutely suck in this game and the final act turns into stereotypical movie-game garbage, which they had to fix in the dlcs. TW2 is good but it's still on the level of good popular fantasy. Disco Elysium comes close but a) it's a visual novel in drag so not a "normal" game and b) it's still on the level of a funny pynchon-like book.Retard most literature was also produced for the purpose of selling it to make money, while it suffers less due to usually being yoked to someone's singular vision it's still edited to be palatable to the masses. There are rare examples that are generally unliked, incomprehensible or have small followings that don't fall subject to that truth. The fact that you think DIsco Elyisum is anything but total dogshit really tells everyone that you need to rethink your life.

I honestly have trouble enjoying lit as a hobby. Almost every novel is full of filler and half the time the author cooks up a dogshit ending that makes the whole thing feel like a waste of my time. I don't understand how lit is supposed to be so superior. It seems just as full of shit as any other medium.

Reading fictional books is low iq
I'm reading The Brothers Karamazov right now. I find the way it's written a bit odd with the way it feels like the author occasionally addresses either the reader or the narrative itself, like in the bit I read today there was a part where it said 'I have already mentioned at the outset of my narrative how Grigory hated Adelaida...' and it's done in a way that pulls me out of it a bit. I feel like I'm getting pulled aside, away from the story, so the author can mention something to me directly when stuff like that happens. It can also feel rambly, but something I do like about it is that it's good at getting you to empathize with the characters in it, like the whole situation with the Elder Zomisa and Alyosha's devotion to him could come across as this alien-feeling religious zealotry, but the novel is good at making you understand why people feel the way they do about something like this rather than just declaring it, and it makes the characters feel fuller because of it. I'm still early into it but I'm mostly enjoying it even if it's not blowing me away or anything.Anyway, Steven Ogg seems like a fag but GTA V is also kind of gay so maybe I'd be an annoying fag too if GTA fans were hassling me all the time. I don't feel he's really in a position to be so uppity though.

>>721372716>You’d be surprised how many hate games because they physically can’t play them without throwing a babby tantrum because “controls too hard”.There’s actually truth to this. >>721352672Its blessing and a curseHe probably won't get better roles because of trevor and i think he can act Just like how people only remember vass actor for farcry untill better call saul where he get a bigger role
>>721376942>because of trevorwhy would trevor have any bearing on what he gets casted in? sounds like a shitty agent issue.
>>721376226He gets careermogged by Walton Goggins, that's why. They don't need two balding dudes.
What do you do after you watch a movie or play a game someone recommends you? What am I expected to do after someone watches or plays my recommendations? I am shit at social stuff so I say one or two things about "did u find out about xyz thing in the thing and did u like it" and then nothing ever after. I can't hold a conversation about anything I like with anyone
You're delusional if you think this game is not going to break the internet on launch.Thread theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3Aay-47ZT0

I have a strong feeling that story will be weak.
>>721379470gta5's story was panned for not being serious with too much focus on parody, this one is going to be a lot more serious. a proper drama. they saw how much people loved how dramatic rdr2 was and are going to repeat that.there is a bigger hunger for adult dramas now than gta5 and they would be retarded to make the game silly in that kind of environ
>>721350925HES SO MAD THEY DIDNT INCLUDE TREVOR BAHHAHAHAHA
>>721350925I didn't perform as any of the characters in Crime and Punishment unlike Mr. Ogg having played a character in GTA V. Though if I were to recommend him a game based on actual fun and not just because he's in it, I'd go with San Andreas instead.
I can only read like 2 pages at a time then it's over. For me to actually read and understand an entire book would take like 2 years minimum.
>>721359816>Honourable mention:>>Resident Evil 9 (upside down 6)i dont even know how you can keep a straight face when you reach this part
>>721350925I hope it's good.
>>721379660quite the opposite actually. the actor is actually REALLY pissed off he is associated with trevor for the past 10 years. he's pretty much perma type casted for the rest of his life like jim from the office, or michael cera. he has been seething on social media for the past decade man. probably sucks to just go shopping at the store and have ten people call you trevor.
>never played gtagiga based
>hat man just walks up, tells them to shut the fuck up>they just ignore himgenuinely confusing social ineraction
>>721359816Jesus (Jew Zeus) is an idol
>>721353750Kill yourself. Video games are a rich artistic medium.
>my medium is better than your medium>the way I past my time is better than the way you past your timeWhy do people care so much? Is it insecurity? Like they read books and they just have to let other people know they read books because they want that "image"?I've noticed book readers are usually the ones trying to place their hobbies above others, next to musicfags.I like video games. I like books. I like some TV shows and anime. I like some movies. I like some outdoor stuff. I like studying religious history. And on and on it goes. It's all the same crap. A way to get dopamine hits to pass the time.If you can honestly play video games 16 hours a day every day. More power to you. I can't. Doesn't matter.
>>721360159>watching moviesHow is that a hobby?>cookingEveryone does that every day lol
>>721382046>I've noticed book readers are usually the ones trying to place their hobbies above othersyeah there are a lot of annoying readers>It's all the same crap. A way to get dopamine hits to pass the time.consolewarring is retarded but it's also retarded to claim all usages of free time are for dopamine
>>721351976I think that’s the point he was making, that it’s basic. If you’re really into a hobby you tend to explore the niches of said hobby and would be more interested in telling people about that. If all you can talk about is surface level knowledge you’re probably just trying to look more sophisticated than you actually are. The fact that the guy looks homeless and can’t even be bothered to groom himself doesn’t help either.
>>721382453>but it's also retarded to claim all usages of free time are for dopamineI'll give you that. But feeling superior to others just because you do X while someone else does Y is dumb. It's just toxic productivity and airs at that point.
>>721382926>But feeling superior to others just because you do X while someone else does Y is dumb.yeah definitely. there's nothing wrong with saying you'd rather do x than y but you shouldn't obsess about how superior you are for choosing x over y and how anyone opting for y over x is a moronit's so dumb to obsessively compare against other people like that
>>721350925He could equally be based here as he could be out of touch. I don't really see an issue. I lean towards that this is based.
>>721382926 Exactly, it's like people forget they aren't being graded on how they spend their downtime. If reading Dostoyevsky makes you feel enlightened, cool, but don't act like someone's a caveman because they 100%ed Elden Ring. The whole hierarchy of hobbies thing is just cope for people looking for an identity in what they consume. Let people rot their brains how they want lmao.
>>721353750The lowest form of consumption is always going to be slop you don't even have to interact with. I'd say streaming tv shows and movies are the lowest form, maybe after drugs.
>>721351714I used to think like this when I was 21, I was just being a contrarian, thinking I was smarter than them by skipping the "basic bitch" authors, but there I was, a complete uncultured bastard. You will find that literature is not like music or video games, you're not better for your tastes.
>>721352672GTA is like a Marvel movie, the lowest of the low for normo retards. It obviously annoys everyone with an IQ higher than average.
>>721353750I think that ship sailed a long time ago with social media and specially Tik Tok. If you play single player games you probably also watch (good) movies/tv shows and read. If you spend your time doomscrolling you most likely do nothing else. This doesn't apply to people addicted to LoL/Valorant/Fortnite/CS and shit like that of course.
>>721351040This life is worthless, retard.
>>721355830They probably mean shit they started doing like 2 weeks ago like bouldering or going to the gym. I once saw an anon said that one of his hobbies was "socializing," I don't remember if it was on /fit/ (nest of failed normies) or somewhere else.
>>721389131speak for yourself
>>721352672Imagine all the retarded mouth breathing fans who clog all of his inboxes 24/7
>>721378173>numeralsSo THAT'S why they didn't do that in the Oblivion remaster
>>721388529Do you know Tik Tok? Most normies spend hours watching tik toks or instagram reels every single day, it's not only brain dead, it's actually bad for you, that's by far the lowest form of consumption.
If you don't have a creative hobby you're not better than gamers. It doesn't matter if you go to the gym or go running every other day.Start painting, writing, playing an instrument, otherwise you're just a consumer with a past time, not a creator.
How did "let's have an entire thread about why you shouldn't play vidya" become a recurring topic on /v/ - video games
>>721389627BECAUSE WE'RE ALL RETARDS
>>721352003>literature isn't about getting smarterwhat is it about then? and why do people brag about books they've read?
>>721350925>how hype are you?0.5/10 I guess? I'll get it for the campaign when it drops to about 40USD, that is about how much they are generally worth. Provided it is good like San Andres/5 and not shit like 4. Not in any rush to buy it. Have no interest in nuRockstar online gameplay. Their online peaked in Red Dead Redemption (1) and early days GTA5 Online was fun too for only the heists, before they went hard into anti-cheat and introduced (((Shark Cards))).

If it's not on PC day one I don't care, I'm not buying a console with no games just to play this, probably will watch some fleshie or vtumor stream it.
zero. i dont believe that even rockstar can pull off a release that will meet the expectations of everyone
>>721350925>how hyped for normie slop 3/10, only thing I look forward to seeing is how this game justified being this long to make and the sheer budget for it. Itll either be a massive flop or the second coming of christ for normies

>>721359271Neuromancer
GTA was never goodthe gameplay was never goodthe physics were never goodthe sandboxes were never goodthe character and story were never goodit was just an interesting and technologically-advanced-for-the-time sandbox to fuck around in
>>721382503>If you’re really into a hobby you tend to explore the niches of said hobby and would be more interested in telling people about that. This isn’t true at all. The last few times I’ve been in a situation where I’ve been asked “what games do you play” I haven’t gone out of my way to describe the game I’m actually playing because there’s no telling whether or not the person will actually care to hear details about something like Dread Delusion or Labyrinth of the Demon King, so I just default to Rocket League. The way I see it, if they haven’t even heard of Rocket League, then there’s no sense in me trying to discuss my hobby with them any further. Dostoyevsky, much like Rocket League, a litmus test for seeing if the person is worth engaging with further.
>>721359002Kids reject reading cause the only books in the curriculum is fucking propaganda shit like Diary of Anne Frank, 1984, Mockingbird, etc etcThe only book that was actually enjoyable as a kid was Dahl books and those are now bad cause le man from his time is le racist. That and Phantom Tollbooth but I think they dont have that in class anymore thanks to how redpilled the demons were
>>721350925not buying it but enjoy your $90 and 200GB game
well its not really my cup of tea, but i keep forgetting it exists, whereas it feels like i knew everything about gta V just from keeping up generally with the news, maybe they just arent advertising as hard because they know theyre going to sell a decent amount on word of mouth alone
>>721398721Literally came to this pic couple of days ago, so weird to see it here
>>721350925looks a bit like Jack Nicholson with a beard.
>>721350925isn't he just salty that's he's now known as trevor and nothing else
>>721385385I mean sure he doesn't have an obligation to play nice to fans but he also doesn't have to be a fucking hypocritical asshole. The guy with the mic just said "I'll check it out" (as in the book) and Trevor said he would never play games. He tried making a point and fucking fell flat on his face. If he's such a book-reader, then maybe he should actually learn something from what he reads instead of just NPC-ing it. Fuck this guy, honestly.
>>721350925I'm not. I had a lot of fun with GTA5 but that was only in MP with friends. We still play games nowadays but not quite as much as we used to a damn decade ago and I kind of doubt the whole crew will get back together for GTA6, assuming there's any interest at all.The SP in GTA5 I started twice, once on PS3 and then on PC but never actually got into it enough to finish it. I also get a sinking feeling about GTA6 ending up woke shit, I hope that's not the case but it's also incredibly hard to imagine a big-budget project out of the West that's not DEI'd to hell and back.
>>721350925I hate reading books but I love to research and memorize information about my hobbies which effectively makes me a living index and/or fun fact factory about a limited amount of topics, and people look at me like I'm weird for it or tell me it doesn't count and I'm still uncultured for not being interested in literature.Fuck normalniggers man you can never keep them happy.
>>721382046>Why do people care so much? Is it insecurity?in this case it's a coping mechanism, trevor has been trying to escape people talking about gtav ever since it came out so he will literally bring up something to avoid talking about it as a "gotcha" moment to shut them up.
>>721350925>Dostlolevsky lol, lmao even
>>721355830I write fiction, study languages (Japanese for work and animoo, Ancient Greek for autism reasons), and like learning about ancient history. I would like to get back into drawing, but I don't have the time at the moment.

>>721402545Nice try, but that's all a waste of time.
>>721402862He played a psychopathic asshole in the game, idk why anyone expected him to be anything other than just that in real life. He’s an actor— for all we know he did this on purpose to draw attention to himself.
>>721403326That’s a pretty based quote. It actually describes the way I treat my “hobbies” as well, IRL. Even if I’m deluding myself into thinking what I’m doing is important, it sure as hell feels that way 99% of the time.
my hobby feels personally attacked in this thread so i will say that playing silksong is infinitely more engaging & worth your time than reading ANY book ever will be.also trevor guy is salty as fuuuuuuck
