>>721427367All the "retcons" were "fake" acording to Toby so technically the canon hasn't changed, but since this was all on an official stream the fandom will take this new lore as canon no matter what
>>721427727So he played both sides like usual, and nothing was resolved?
>>721422540I have a lot of ideas for this but my concept for the Underground differs from other Underfell takes because I decided, for my plot to work, Asgore needs to have absorbed the first four human souls which have minority control over his body similar to Chara's major influence on Asriel once their soul was absorbed: they don't have enough power to take control of him, but they do have enough power to keep him from leaving the barrier and make him languid and miserable, a major factor in why the Underground has fallen into much greater disrepair than the vanilla timeline. I personally like the idea of this better than fell!Asgore simply becoming nihilisticMy short concept is that Axis 014 murdered Integrity as normal, but due to the more hostile guard and a serious injury suffered in the Ruins the child, out of desperation, takes Kanako hostage upon meeting her. Kanako is witness to Integrity's gruesome end and this scars her for life. Chujin doesn't hide his role in stopping Integrity and gets hired as Alphys' assistant to both improve her Human Eradication Device and to work on future Axis models. Meanwhile Alphys convinced the King not to absorb the Integrity soul he needed little convincing so she can experiment with DT; Chujin is one of the only ones to find out about the amalgamates, which gives him the idea to try injecting the soulless body of the child with DT and seeing if any chemical processes occur. Far beyond his expectations, though the body remains lifeless, all injury and decay reverts after repeated injections. Chujin puts the body in a vat and uses the equivalent of DT antibodies to create a serum, one intended for the living.By chance, the first guard to sign up for the test is old pupil. Martlet, too sweet for her own good, has had a horrid time in the guard and is now at Chujin's mercy.
>>721427912The serum has an immediate effect on monster physiology: it temporarily transforms the monster into a more powerful state, and repeated doses prolong and further enhance the state. Martlet, still sweet on the inside, is now tall and intimidating, with a glare that could freeze a monster in its tracks. This is excellent for her standing in the guard, where posturing as tough and edgy is at least 50% of the work... as long as she doesn't open her mouth.Chujin's wife and soulmate, Ceroba, bears the brunt of raising her troubled daughter. The shock wore off after a while, but Kanako is still just a bit... off. She isn't able to make any friends besides her neighbor Sadie (who has no problem with Kanako being weird), and she spends a lot of time in her own world. Her kind "uncle" Starlo is the only one able to put a smile on her face, but life has gotten much harder for him and his family ever since the guard excavated and removed the sunstone illuminating the Dunes; the crops have wilted and the increase in sandstorms does them no favors. One day, without warning, Starlo left the Dunes in search of a better place. All knew it to be a fool's errand: there was no unexplored land in the Underground at this point, and any place that could have supported a farming lifestyle was already taken. When the Dunes went cold, those who could emigrate did so or died trying. The remaining population huddled close and did their best to survive, but it was rough. Starlo's father was gone before his tenth birthday, and his mother gradually declined without him. Now bedridden, it was up to Starlo and Orion to maintain the farm.Years later, Starlo returned with surprising news that he found prospective work, only to find his family gone. Nobody could look him in the eye and tell him what happened. But he knew.Within weeks the Wild East was formed, a paradise for humans (should any arrive). Its sheriff, Stardust, would ensure their safety, and no guard would stop him.
>>721427972Chujin and Starlo already didn't like each other, though they kept the peace for Ceroba's sake. Chujin and Stardust were diametrically opposed, and arguments grew more and more bitter until the two refused to see each other. More and more nights Chujin stays at the lab, working on God-knows-what. He won't speak to her about work anymore. One night, Ceroba woke to the thrashing of her husband under the covers in bed. She roused him, tried to comfort him—and then Kanako bolted into the room, crying hysterically. Ceroba could barely make out that she had a nightmare about the human, and turned her attention to her daughter. She didn't notice Chujin's blank look of horror as Kanako blubbered about what happened.Despite that incident, Kanako brightened up a bit shortly after. She still kept to herself, but she got very excited and told her mother all about her imaginary friend, Melody. Kanako didn't speak of it to her father, however; he got very angry at her friend's mention.Five years after the Integrity incident, he Ketsukanes no longer slept in the same bed. Ceroba couldn't find the details for why Chujin had such a violent falling out with the royal scientist, but with his tenure he had no trouble receiving a position at the now-failing Steamworks that had once laughed him off. His Axis model perfected, he was ready to go into mass production, and moved into his office. Model 014 was still around, unchanged from the day of the incident and a bit worse for wear in the software; it had no role, but served as a mascot. On a particular night Ceroba, against her husband's wishes, took Kanako to the Wild East. She didn't expect to arrive during an audit; the guardswoman had giving Stardust's friends a difficult time, but brightened at once and shouted "Oh, Mrs. Ketsukane!" at Ceroba. Ceroba had never met this tall, intimidating bird in her life, but did recognize the name Martlet. Everything was explained to her... and she saw red.
>>721428030Chujin did his best not to sleep. He stared at the lab reports, and then returned his eyes to the accompanying obituaries. The day 1 survival rate for his serum, Slow DT as he had taken to calling it, started at 94%, few guards having adverse reactions. It became clearer and clearer over the years, however, that SOMETHING was breaking down in these monsters' bodies. The higher the dose, the faster.Martlet was still healthy, thank god. He sighed, grateful that he had made her the control with a lower dose. Maybe he could downsize the experiment before its consequences manifested in her.He was tired, but he couldn't face what greeted him when he slept. He prayed for his daughter, knowing she suffered the same fate.He almost dozed, when a heavy blow kicked down his door.Ceroba knew about the Slow DT. She had gone to Snowdin, and discovered that Kanako's babysitter had gone insane and fled into the forbidden Ruins. It happened when Chujin and Kanako both had that nightmare. The exact same day.She wanted to know what the hell was going on. He wouldn't tell her.She wanted to know what he was happening to Kanako. He couldn't tell her.Ceroba didn't come back to the Steamworks after that day.Chujin didn't leave the Steamworks after that day.Kanako, at mother's orders, didn't leave her house after that day.Martlet, forging a satisfactory report for her superiors, didn't return to the Dunes after that day.Stardust, fearing retribution and focusing on fortification, didn't leave the Wild East after that day.Dalv was never going to leave the dark corners of the Ruins. It would have stayed like that forever, had another human not fallen down.I swear to god I meant this to be short like I initially said, and not four posts of lore dumps. I am sorry.

>>721444414I sympathize with her in the same sense that I can sympathize with Handplates! Gaster, though Ceroba's obviously more reasonable than him.
>>721446452>neglects husbandWhat Chujin did to himself was his own fault, you can't blame Ceroba for not knowing that she was being lied to by her husband for the duration of his project.>neglects childFrom everything we see in-game, Ceroba was a perfectly fine parent to Kanako before the incident with the serum, she absolutely wasn't neglectful or abusive in any way towards her.>kills said childYes, this one is fair, but it still ignores the circumstances of what actually happened. She didn't do it out of malice, and she didn't even seem to think anything bad would happen because of it. She injected Kanako with the serum because she was the only viable candidate for the project, and she thought the project was genuinely one of monsterkind's best hope for survival based on what Chujin told her. This is moreso Chujin's fault for offloading a dead-end project onto her while knowing damn well that there weren't any other boss monster candidates (other than Asgore, and no way would he have been willing to be a guinea pig for one of Chujin's projects like this) around to work with.>attempts to kill a 2nd child Also fair, but so does literally everyone else who encounters Clover in the underground, so that's really not a big deal for Ceroba specifically.
>>721447468I'm just wondering if no one in the dev team, on the entire 7 years of development, didn't at least suggest kanako injecting herself behind ceroba's back instead of roba doing it herselfwould likely be easier to animate and would make more sense, and absolve roba from her fame
>>721447607I agree with you that that would've been a better way of going about things, but I don't necessarily think that what Ceroba did as it stands is completely unforgivable, especially in the context of a less grounded world like UT.

>>721449091>You'd have to be willfully ignorant or retarded not to notice the führerbunker underneath your dinning room tableOnly if there's actually any amount of attention drawn to it. Most people aren't going to assume there's some secret room underneath a patch of floor that's being covered up by something. Sure, that's a trope in fictional media, but how many houses have *you* lived in that have secret areas of the house hidden by Deus Ex style secret passageways? Probably not too many.>that your husband is pretending to go to work everyday. What exactly does "pretending to go to work" look like? From an outside perspective, going to work mostly just looks like leaving your home at a certain time, heading to a certain location for a certain duration of time, and then returning home afterwards at another specified time. Ceroba had no experience with any technical stuff of any kind, how exactly would she have been able to tell the difference between Chujin leaving the house to go to work and him leaving for anywhere else? It's not like Ceroba was tracking him, so really, she had no way of knowing what Chujin was up to at any given moment whenever he wasn't in line of sight.>And just let it slide. She only found out when he was on his literal deathbed, not too many people are gonna start chewing out their partners when they're literally dying right in front of them.

If he knew of any other candidates to continue the project with, he would've said something, but he didn't. The fact that he had to specify not to use Kanako indicates that he knew there weren't any other choices to use as test subjects, but he passed along this project to Ceroba anyway, knowing full well that she would either have to abandon it, or use Kanako. If I didn't know any better, and if UTY's writing was a bit darker, I'd almost say he wanted for Ceroba to use Kanako for the serum project, but couldn't quite harden his heart enough to do it himself.>It's the intent that matters. She purposeful deceives a child with the goal of cornering and killing him.As if Starlo didn't lead Clover along with that "deputy" schtick only to turn around and try his hardest to kill them for his own personal benefit? At least Ceroba was ostensibly trying to do it for the good of monsterkind, Starlo was only in it for himself.>Then berates said child for assuming the best in people after downing her best friend and a police officer.>a police officer.Ah yes, Martlet, a member of the royal guard who had already effectively betrayed her people by leading Clover through the underground in the first place, when her duty as a royal guard is to capture them and bring their soul to Asgore. On a moral level, I understand, but if you're gonna argue about this from the angle of her job position, you may want to reconsider some things.

How would you differentiate a mad scientist from Chujin and Alphys?
>>721458242What exactly is a "mad scientist"? Is it based on how the scientist acts outwardly, a mere appearance of madness, or is it based on the things they'll do to reach a certain goal? Or is it the things they work for themselves that make them mad?Depending on how you classify it, both Chujin and Alphys could qualify as "mad scientists", since they both did some pretty extreme things in the name of their goals, both out of desperation to succeed, but neither of them acted particularly insane towards others or anything like that.
>>721458802scientists who do extreme, dangerous, and unreasonable things out of the pursuit of their scientific goal. I'll admit Chujin fits this definition a lot better than Alphys, but I'd say Alphys still counts as one.I meant that more as "If you were to make a mad scientist character in a fangame, how would you make them feel unique and different compared to what came before in the series?"
>>721458802A mad scientist is a trope that's been around for a long time, and is considered to have started with Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein." The main theme is about pursuing the cause of science at any cost with often unethical methods, but cartoon versions focus more on crazy Einstein-style hair and general wackiness. Alphys is a mad scientist, but her madness is borne out of low self-esteem rather than obsessiveness.

>>721459674>Both carry out unit 731 type experiments that produce no real breakthroughs just like irlEh, what Chujin and Alphys each did was more ethical than unit 731. Chujin only really experimented on himself, and the people Alphys was experimenting on were expected to be dead soon anyway, and their bodies were given with consent, so nothing as unethical as what unit 731 did. Also, arguably Alphys did discover some form of immortality, just a really shitty one. Maybe if it could be refined somehow, or if she could prevent them from merging with each other, that may be a good branch of research to look into.
>>721459674Chujin did make a functional murder robot, and Alphys made a DT serum that gave Martlet super powers
>>721460290NTA, but,>Chujin did make a functional murder robotWith no functioning IFF telling it not to kill certain people, but yeah, mostly functional anyway.>Alphys made a DT serum that gave Martlet super powersNot canon to what she actually did, and that's also not really a discovery, since DT does that naturally (as we see with Undyne in the genocide route), she just managed to isolate it for the purposes of her experiments (and she may or may not have actually learned how to do that herself based on how you read into the true lab data entries, but I digress) which didn't have anything to do with that.
>>721460638>Not canon to what she actually did,This is a fangame thread, so stuff that happens in UTY counts
>>721461486>This is a fangame thread, so stuff that happens in UTY countsWe were discussing their actual characters and actions, so what Alphys may or may not have done in the events of UTY are irrelevant.
>>721461726In the context of fangames. If this were just a UT thread you would have a point, but its not.
>>721461836We're talking about what makes a character a mad scientist, and we were discussing things the characters Chujin and Alphys did in their respective games. UTY doesn't count for discussing Alphys' character, that's like including Dusttale Sans in an analysis of Sans' character in UT, that makes no sense.
>>721462013I still think she counts as a mad scientist because of all the people she melted trying to get monster souls. A mad scientist doesn't have to be successful, in fact they usually only partially succeed, which in their case is much much worse than complete failure.
>>721462329I'm not arguing about that, I think Alphys could potentially count as a mad scientist depending on how you look at it, I'm just saying UTY doesn't count as evidence towards that because it's not canon to her character. Also, even if you were counting that, it still doesn't count towards your argument because that's not what she made the DT syringe for. That's like saying "Wow, the person who made this can of compressed volatile gas made something that could be used as the primary component in a pipebomb, what a madman!" while talking about a can of air used for cleaning machinery.
>>721462329that and to even get the determination for the experiment she'd have extract if from a human soul
>>721427727>>721456241i have millions invested in "no susie ship will be confirmed" stocks, i'm not selling now
>>721457336fine I'll do it myself
>>721462770>she'd have extract if from a human soulWell, some of the true lab entries actually imply that (the person who wrote those entries) used other monsters as a source for DT, so she didn't technically *have* to extract it from a human soul specifically, it was just the more effective choice.
>>721462783This could easily be read as him baiting Suselle because Krusie and Kriselle were getting too strong, so you may be right to do so.
>>721462725fair enough, but all of this is besides the issue that my original question wasn't asking if they did qualify as mad scientists, but how you would make mad scientist character feel distinct from them, assuming that they were mad scientists.
>>721462934That "dt from monster souls" thing is a stretch that relies on very minor differences in writing style between the entries, which could just as easily be unintentional on Toby's part. Its much easier to read it as Alphys assembled the machine herself and used it to extract DT from human souls.
>>721463183>how you would make mad scientist character feel distinct from them, assuming that they were mad scientists.Easy, just have them doing something else for different reasons.Frankly, I'm surprised you didn't bring up Gaster when talking about mad scientists. Sure, we don't exactly know what he's doing or what he wants, but we've seen bits and pieces here and there, so I don't think it's unreasonable to call him a mad scientist, especially when what he's doing in the DR universe seems to be directly tearing people's lives (and potentially the world) apart. So, if you want to make a mad scientist character stand out, just make them do something new with their scientific endeavors, and make them act in a new way about it. Callous disregard for others, suicidal curiosity, active malice, etc, just pick whatever sounds new and entertaining to you.
>>721463481>dt from monster soulsNot getting into this argument again, mainly because I don't have the time right now, but one of the entries explicitly states that the person running the experiment didn't have any human souls to extract DT from at the time of writing, and was therefore forced to use monsters as a DT source. That's text, that's in the game, I don't know how you can possibly argue with that.
>>721371697>undahtell>yelluhWhy do you do this to get around people's regexes? Are you getting paid to post this?
>>721463835No its not. That is much easier read as "we don't have enough human souls to break the barrier, so we will use monster souls instead. Monster souls which will obtain by injecting dying monsters with determination from the human souls, in order for their souls to persist after death."
>>721463874its not people, its jannies that hate it when you discuss videogames on the videogame board.
>>721463675>suicidal curiosity>callous disregard for othersChujin already covers both of those. Depending on how things go, Gaster may cover all 3.
>>721464231The entry isn't talking about breaking the barrier dipshit, it's talking about extracting determination, or SOUL power, as it says (which a later entry then renames to determination). The entry says that they have to use "what we have now", and then "the SOULs of monsters.", which directly implies that they don't have any human souls to use as a source of DT for the experiment. Notice that the entry doesn't say "Without a way to extract SOUL power from the human souls we have..." or something similar, it very obviously implies they only have monster souls to work with.If you can read this entry and somehow come to the conclusion that they totally have human souls that they just aren't using for literally no reason, you're illiterate.

>>721464650>The entry isn't talking about breaking the barrier dipshitIts talking about extracting the souls of monsters to break the barrier. All of this exists in the context of it leading to Alphys injecting monsters with determination extracted from human souls so she can use the now permanent monster souls to break the barrier. So then it makes much more sense for that text to mean that she was the one writing the > which directly implies that they don't have any human souls to use as a source of DT for the experimenAll it implies is that they don't have enough to break the barrier. 6 souls or zero they'd still need to use what they have now, monster souls, to break the barrier.>If you can read this entry and somehow come to the conclusion that they totally have human souls that they just aren't using for literally no reasonThey are using. The entire plan is using human souls to get the monster souls, so they can then combine the human and monster souls so they have enough total soul power to break the barrier.
>>721466943>Its talking about extracting the souls of monsters to break the barrier. It's talking about extracting SOUL power to then use for the experiment to extract the souls of monsters directly, use your brain.>All it implies is that they don't have enough to break the barrier. 6 souls or zero they'd still need to use what they have now, monster souls, to break the barrier.Except the data entry isn't talking about breaking the barrier, it's talking about extracting DT, a context where the actual number of human souls present is irrelevant unless that number is zero. Use your brain.>They are using. The entire plan is using human souls to get the monster souls, so they can then combine the human and monster souls so they have enough total soul power to break the barrier.Yes, that is the plan overall, but this data entry is clearly expressing that they don't have any human souls to work with, and are therefore being forced to use monster souls as a DT source for extracting other monster souls. Use your brain.Read the data entry. This isn't some "the curtains were blue" shit, it's what the data entry says.
>>721466249>>721464857Why are you replying to obvious bait?
>>721467236>It's talking about extracting SOUL power to then use for the experiment to extract the souls of monsters directly,This is our point of contention. Its not saying that, its saying what I said.>Except the data entry isn't talking about breaking the barrier, it's talking about extracting DT For the purposes of breaking the barrier, so it is talking about breaking the barrier.>but this data entry is clearly expressing that they don't have any human souls to work withIt is in no way clearly expressing that.> Use your brain.>Read the data entry. This isn't some "the curtains were blue" shit, it's what the data entry says. That is not what it says. That's how you're choosing to read it. It can also be read the way I said, and the surrounding context of game, that being Alphys extracted DT from human souls so she could inject dying monsters with it, for the purpose of extracting their souls, all for the ultimate purpose of combining them with the human souls they already have to break the barrier, then wrote a bunch of entries describing this process, says that's what the entries were describing.Fair enough if you want to believe that, but you have no grounds to claim this is the indisputable truth.
>>721467849>This is our point of contention. Its not saying that, its saying what I said. No, the point of contention is that you're illiterate.
>>721467236>>721467849Now let me just add a bit more clarification so you can better understand. the line>So to create more we will have to use what we have now>The souls of monstersIs talking about creating soul power by extracting whole monster souls, DT and all, not by extracting DT from monster souls as a separate substance.
>>721468025>illiterateI really do think you need to take minute to calm down anon. Getting emotional can cloud your judgement. Just because someone reads a line differently from you doesn't mean they're illiterate.Even if you disagree with my reading, you should at least take the time to calmly and impartially read it and parse it so you can understand my position, instead of just throwing around insults and arguing in circles. I know its very tempting to do that, but it helps no one.
>>721464650Soul power is not the same as Determination.
>>721468718Other anon in that argument, here. That's besides the point. Whether its soul power being moved around or determination, the fact remains that the goal is making monster souls persist so they can be used to break the barrier. Our disagreement is over who is writing those notes, whether they had any human souls while writing them, and ultimately whether they meant extracting soul power from monsters as a separate substance or doing it with whole souls.

>>721469246Where are these from?

>>721469412Rivals of Aether mod with Martlet
>>721469241I think it does matter because if you accept that they are not the same, then that means there had to have been human souls because that's the only source of Determination Alphys had to work with.
>>721471098Fair enough. I guess that does open a new front to the debate.Determination is described as the will to persist, so I think that would mean that all living things have some amount of it, since its what keeps them alive. Without determination things would not persist at all, so they would simply drop dead.It is possible soul power could still be a separate thing which includes determination among all the other aspects of the soul though.
>>721471596The entries imply that it's something humans have and monsters don't. It's not the will to live, but the will to KEEP living after death.
>>721437517It's lived rent-free in my head for a year at this point. I planned to write a fic but I can't come to terms with the problem that I can't draw and thus the characters I write will be seen by others as other Underfell Yellow concepts, which has indefinitely halted my drive to work on it. I could never make a full fangame unless I found a way to get on autismbux or something, but if I do find both the time and motivation to learn art skills I could see myself, after I hypothetically finished the fic, making a short vertical slice fangame in the Wild East, much like One Hell of a Show isolates the end of the CORE section of a potential Underfell game.
>>721472159It implies that the amount of determination humans have is substantially higher than anything monsters can muster, but it doesn't say that monsters don't have it. And we see that monsters absolutely can have it with characters like Undyne.the exact quote is>The will to keep living... the resolve to change fateI've seen all monsters display these traits to some degree. That to me says they all have some amount of it.

>>721468364Sorry, I had a place to be for a while and didn't have time to properly argue you there.I apologize for the mud slinging.Anyway, you're still wrong based on the actual text of the data entry and the context of the experiment for which it was written. While the experiment for which the DT is being extracted is ultimately being conducted for the purpose of breaking the barrier, yes, the actual process of extracting the DT is being conducted for the purposes of the other experiment, the DT itself isn't being extracted for use with the barrier, but rather for the purpose of making monster's souls persist after death. The *source* of this DT is the souls of other monsters, which is very easily determined by carefully reading the data entry. The data entry says that DT (or SOUL power, as it calls it at the time) cannot be created artificially, and *needs* to be extracted from something living. We also know for a fact that monsters have some amount of DT naturally, as seen with Undyne. (I forget exactly where, but I remember there being some piece of lore saying that all living things have some amount of DT, just that humans produce way more of it than monsters do, but I can't find it so I won't use that idea as evidence itself.)The phrasing of the data entry is very clear and specific. By having the writer (in-universe) say that they're making use of the resources they currently have available to them, and then going on to specify "the SOULs of monsters", they are clearly implying that the data entry was written at a point in time when there were no human souls present in the underground. If there were, they would've been an obvious choice for DT extraction, given how much DT human souls contain, but the data entry clearly doesn't mention them at all when it comes to being a DT source. UT has other clear cases where exact dialogue is important:"I gave up trying to go back a long time ago, *and* getting to the surface doesn't appeal anymore either".
>>721486098Is it worth fucking a girl with snakes around her neck?

I think they're talking about extracting souls for the purpose of gaining more total soul power. The idea of extracting DT as a substance came later, as the did the idea of what gives the human soul its power, determination.
>>721490071If she takes the snakes off before sex it should be fine.
>>721491434Alright, you know what? This might just be one of those agree to disagree things.I'd say there's a decent bit of evidence to support the idea that half of the True Lab data entries were written by different people (writing style, various anachronisms, specific phrasing, etc), but yes, there technically isn't anything *definitively* proving it to 100% be the case that Alphys wrote some of them and Gaster wrote others.Like I said, we're just gonna have to agree to disagree.
>>721491503COWARDICE
>>721488142Samefag, but why is it also so easy to impress furfags when some character looks vaguely fox-like? Chujin is ugly and barely appears in game, yet he still manages to attract some of the degenerate UTY furry crowd certain other characters can't capture
>>721491845I'm fine with agreeing to disagree, this whole argument started by me claiming that the "writing on the wall" theory (I hope I'm using the correct name) isn't a proven certainty. It could be wrong. Not necessarily is, just could be, so it should treated as a theory rather than a fact.Me personally, I go with the simpler surface level reading that all the entries were Alphys because I tend to go with simpler explanations when presented with them, but I do acknowledge that your theory isn't implausible. It could plausibly be true. The same as mine could very plausibly be true.I just hope that you can see the merit behind my reading of the text even if you personally think it should be read another way.
>>721488142Its just some local anon's smut. Its less of a western furfag thing, and more of an amateur making porn for fun thing. You can see much better stuff in the same thread if you just scroll up.
>>721492125I don't see what's so ugly about him. He looks dorky, but that's not the same as ugly, and can be appealing to people who like dorks.
>>721371697>With recent developments in the undahtell communitQRD?
>>721492243Yes, you got the theory name correct. Cool name, eh?Anyway, the reason I stand by it is (first) because I think it makes sense for the various reasons presented, and (second) because I think the implications of it are interesting, namely the implication that only *some* of Gaster's work was erased from existence. I mean, we kinda already knew that, since the Core didn't vanish along with him, but the idea of some of his data entries being left over is also an interesting idea.If you're wondering why Gaster's entry 17 doesn't exist (ostensibly) but the other entries do in this theory, it's because entry 17 is more inherently connected to Gaster due to it being an audio/video recording, whereas all the other True Lab entries (including the *other* entry 17 presumably written by Alphys that also goes unused) are text entries, as evidenced by the way their text displays in-game.
>>721492754You see the recent 10th anniversary streams?
>>721492754Did you miss the anniversary stream? Toby showed a bunch of cut content, made a bunch of lore big drops, basically said the lore drops were as canon as you wanted them to be, teased Suselle, said he liked Underfell, and told everyone to make 500 skeletons.
>>721492125He isn't ugly, he just appeals to a "certain taste"
>>721492798I get the appeal and I see the arguments. Its a cool theory that can plausibly fit with the elements presented in the game. I even agree with some of them, for example I do think Gaster designed the DT extractor even if he didn't build it, and likely had his own series of DT experiments (even if I don't think those are what was depicted in the entries)What I'm mainly hoping here is that you can see where I'm coming from even if you disagree.>due to it being an audio/video recording, whereas all the other True Lab entries (including the *other* entry 17 presumably written by Alphys that also goes unused) are text entriesThey're written like dialogue, with ellipses and pauses, which makes me think Toby either intended them to be voice recordings, or didn't think about what they should be when writing them .
>>721492125>uglywrong
>>721493480>They're written like dialogue, with ellipses and pauses, which makes me think Toby either intended them to be voice recordings, or didn't think about what they should be when writing themThe data entries are written *like* dialogue, but they're clearly meant to be representative of in-universe written text when you notice the fact that they're actively being displayed on large screens with visibly have lines on them meant to represent text, and also the fact that the in-game text doesn't utilize character specific text noises, fonts, or talksprites, a trait also shared by the various written signs and undernet posts you can read throughout the game. You can also notice this by paying attention to the texts you receive from Toriel and Sans at the end of the pacifist route, with their texts not featuring their character specific text noises, talksprites, or dialogue fonts, although that last one only applies to Sans in that particular instance.Even if the entries are literally *written* like spoken dialogue, the way they're presented in-game clearly shows they're meant to be representative of in-universe writing as opposed to audible speech.
>>721492964the mandate of heaven is ours
>>721493867>when you notice the fact that they're actively being displayed on large screens with visibly have lines on them meant to represent text,That could just be the command line interface on the computer, which is being used to play audio logs.>and also the fact that the in-game text doesn't utilize character specific text noises, fonts, or talksprites, a trait also shared by the various written signs and undernet posts you can read throughout the game. The game will sometimes choose to not use special fonts or dialogue noises when it wants characters to seem more mysterious.Though, yeah it very likely is just meant to be text. But that still means Toby didn't think about it since the text is still written like spoken dialogue rather than like a journal entry.
>>721494543Basically. Sure those lore drops would've been a big wrench in the gears for anyone writing a fangame, but Toby very kindly made them all dubiously canon so we can just imagine whatever we want.
>>721494752I really liked the line about "every monster has a place to go home to" just kind of encouraging that fan world building I want to go home to martlet
>>721494652>But that still means Toby didn't think about it since the text is still written like spoken dialogue rather than like a journal entry.Eh, I know people who write the way they speak.I just wrote out "eh" without even really thinking about it, I think that may be a point in my favor.
>>721494924Sure, but who puts ellipses in their writing? You can't even pronounce ellipses.
>>721494916Does that mean there are no homeless monsters?
>>721495117>Sure, but who puts ellipses in their writing?I have, but usually not diegetically.>You can't even pronounce ellipses.Sure you can, you either just let your voice trail off slowly or you pronounce it the same way William Shatner pronounces a " ".
>>721495198I think it just implies the wider world of the setting, that the characters you meet would logically have to have places that they live in and thats what some of these "hypothetical" side areas were, just showing what the lives of monsters could be like, and then saying "or they could be different if you want"
>>721495275>you pronounce it the same way William Shatner pronounces a " ".So what you're saying is that the person who wrote those entries spoke like William Shatner?I've got a new theory. The entries weren't written by Alphys or Gaster, but by some new third character. I call it "Captain's Log".
>>721495198Homeless monsters are euthanised.

He just takes all of society's rejects, gives them jobs and a place to live where they don't actually have responsibilities or need to be competent.

>>721501158Yeah, and observation from life. Considering that Alphys would most definitely be a single mother, Susie would turn up exactly that way. Meanwhile Berdly is from a functional family, but he is also a latchkey kid who doesn't get enough attention from his hard-working parents.
>>721501790I feel like the Alphys theory falls apart with Susie's characterization in chapter 3 and 4. Susie says she moved around a lot, and very clearly acts like she has a bad home life, not just a shabby one.
