>is the best portable Wii U machine in your path
Why haven't you gotten a Steam Deck yet?
>>
>>721379695
i did got gotted it
>>
Alreayd have a Switch
>>
>>721379695
Ok show us the WiiU game you're definitely playing right now.
>>
>>721379695
That looks like a god awful way to play Wii U games. Just mod your Wii U. You do own one, right?
>>
>>721379695
Because not everyone wants to play the Wii U library. That said, I already have a Steam Deck.
>>
Steam Charts report the the average size of steam deck user's cocks are 8.5

Not exactly related but what is the purpose of Steam Points? I have 219k and I never used them. Do you just buy shit to customize the profile nobody will ever look at?
>>
>>721383112
I don't remember how but I think there was a way to use them to increase your account level and that way you get more card drops you can resell for a few pennies.
>>
Fuck you valve do a sale for the OLED as well, nobody likes LCD anymore.
>>
>>721382307
LCD is 80 bucks off right now
>>
>>721385114
I kinda like oled screens more so I'm waiting on a new batch of refurbished, sad thing is that I started looking into buying one a few days after the last big batch of refurbished decks.
>>
>>721379929

You say this as if it was a common household item
>>
>>721385446

I also tried used steam decks but people are retarded and want the full money for an uber used deck and think me asking for a 50% discount off MSRP is low balling when that's usually how much used devices go for after they have been out for a while.
>>
>>721385446
Why buy one now when the next iteration is right around the corner?

>>
>>721385114
It's awesome Valve is still doing sales despite the tariffs, especially when everyone else is raising prices, even for old shit like the Switch.
>>
>>721385756
The Deck 2 is 1.5-3 years away.
>>
>>721385756
1. I don't want to spend more than 400 dollars on a console.
2. I don't want to wait 2-3 years for a console
3. I don't play graphically intensive games anyways, if I want to play something graphically intensive I rather play on my PC.

Also there is the posibility the base version is not oled wich is a deal breaker for me since I love oled screens.
>>
>>721386220
I agree with your points, but there's no way the deck 2 isn't oled by default, especially for the better battery life valve cares about. What I can see them doing is ofering a cheaper lcd version alongside it as a cheaper option.

i've been using it as my main pc. hooked up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. i can play any game (worth playing), and i can use the extensive library of linux software to make money. it's a computer, not a console.
>>
>>721379695
Jesus Christ how horrifying. All the games are on the Switch.
>>
>>721379695
What is this set-up? Is it really doing a dual screen thing? Like for the DS?
>>
>>721386506
I ended up doing a split thing, where I have my PC for PC things and M/K games, and then my Steam Deck hooked up to my TV. A really great set-up, honestly.
>>
>>721386445
I would hope so.
>>
>>721385919
The switch 2 will be amazing once someone modchips it so I don't have to pay for expensive games.
>>
>>721379695
It's the best portable machine period. The things I can do with my deck is the kind of stuff I dreamed of as a kid.
>>
>>721386818
And I'm quite pleased that it's helped midwife in this little subset of PCs that are handheld gaming devices. Because the form-factor is what really matters to me, and if there is a certain level of competition in the space, I think that will be a good thing.
But its still niche enough that it's not seemingly getting many of the bad aspects of success. It still feels like a hobbyist machine.
>>
>>721380786
theres something about this design i dont like but i cant put my finger on it
>>
>>721386980
It's more ergonomic than it looks somehow.
>>
>>721386980
Try to think about it a little longer and see if you can express it. I like hearing interesting feedback.
>>
>>721379937
Honestly, almost no one cares about the Wii U. It's been forced a little to try to push a sense of FOMO around it, but even that kind of faltered. It happens ever now and then with older hardware, where the exclusivity of older failed hardware is used to generate a mystique.
That, and it's now old enough that 10 year olds who did have a Wii U are in their mid 20s.
>>
>>721387072
why are the joysticks at the top instead of at the side within thumb reach?
>>
>>721386980
The Dpad + buttons are insanely high up in the corners, that's what's bothering you. It's comfortable but I feel the same way when I look at it.
>>
>>721387374
I don't really understand your comment. I think this might be one of those situations where you're having a hard time picturing how you hold it, because it's at a pretty normal position for your thumbs when you're holding it.
Or, maybe I have big hands, I dunno.
>>
>>721387325
>Honestly, almost no one cares about the Wii U.
You need to be a little contrarian to still play on WiiU, luckily, I know were we are.
>>
>>721388374
were we are where?
>>
>>721388459
A place where we can make stupid typos.
>>
>>721388374
That's just an internet thing. Driven by the main internet sites like Youtube and TikTok, where people are always looking for video content to push. It then trickles down to here, either directly through people trying to sell their own stuff, or indirectly through people parroting videos. Same as everywhere.
I think it was a year or two ago you could see there was a big push for the Wii U, but it just didn't take. There will still be hobbyists into it, but it didn't manage to take root best I can tell. The opposite would be CRTs, which have seemingly taken root and have been a sort of safe hipster thing to be.
>>
>>721388374
the wii u was better than the switch in a lot of ways, I sold mine to get a switch and regretted it. actual real joysticks on the handheld, and the dual-screen gimmick was unmatched for mario maker.
>>
>>721379695
>Why aren't you falling for my shilling and buy an 'ick that weighs over 700lbs to emulate a game library that mostly overlaps with the Switch
Just buy a mid-tier chinkheld running a Snapdragon Gen2 for Switch emulation and the dedicated driver support it got, or get a modern Ayn device and attach that Retroid second screen to it and you'll spend three times less in both cases. Stop asking retarded questions.

>>
>>721389270
I will forever be mad that BotW lost the map on the Gamepad to push the Switch version.
>>
>>721388932
>The opposite would be CRTs, which have seemingly taken root and have been a sort of safe hipster thing to be.
that's because CRT screens can actually be pretty damn nice. the sad part is all the zoomers obsess over the 240p 60hz ringing flicker beasts known as the CRT TV, and miss out on the legitimately great CRT monitor experience.
>>
>>721389479
Slowly but surely, they're at least trying to catch up. Hell, we even came to the point of having frontends that aim to make Steam games playable om Android with cloud saves synced with your account, look up for GameNative (even if the growing pains surely show up for now).
>>
>>721389613
There are, within these spaces, real hobbyists and such. Old hardware is cool, and I'm not even particularly angry at the Wii U even if I don't care about it. This is more an attempt to describe a phenomenon of trends, and I think that's different from the core hobbyist/fanatic thing that you also have.
So, going back to CRTs. You have the people who clearly own one largely to take pictures and brag about being true gamers for owning one. You also have the people who know how to dismantle and repair old CRTs, and can explain a lot of details in depth. I'll note that the latter group also tends to not get super pissy about new technology either, probably because they like CRTs and think they're cool, but their ego isn't invested in that fact.
There's also a middle ground of people who just own a CRT for various reasons that aren't fanaticism, and aren't pissing contest reasons.
>>
>>721380786
is it worth getting a deck, I kind of hate lugging around my laptop for portable gaming and my phone doesn't have shit for games/ emulation
>>
>>721379695
I have a PC
>>
>>721389885
I'm scared to use my CRT because it's a dead tech and once it's gone I'll probably never have another one. it was great for deltarune a couple months ago, but I just use it for puttputt with the kids at this point.
>>
>>721390382
You can learn to repair them if you really want. There's usually a thread on /vr/ for CRTs and that does have actual knowledgeable people in it.
Might not be worth the time though. PuttPutt saves the Zoo is my jam.

>>
>>721382307
Buy a used OLED, trust me the LCD isn't worth it unless you got a better pc because it cant play everything
>>
>>721395259
The problem is that all the retards on ebay and facebook marketplace are asking for 450-500 for their used 512GB oled decks. I rather wait a month or two for a refurbished instead.
Would probably buy it from someone asking 300-350 but I guess people really want their full money back.

It depends on what plugins you have and whether or not valve recently updated the client. If you don't want problems stick to the fewest plugins possible and avoid updating steam until decky can get its own update out.
It's definitely been worth it for me.

What is your expectation for it?

When it comes to emulation Wii U and some PS3 is the highest it will go in terms of emulation while Switch is a coin flip if it even runs at Switch handheld level and Metroid Dread is the only thing I know runs decently because that game runs on anything.
When it comes to modern gaming around mid 2023 to early 2024 is where you should stop with modern games since they're arguably worse than console experiences at that point in terms of performance.
When it comes to anything before that it's a mix of just installing the game and playing or having to make some tweaks, really depends on the game. You can rely on Steam and also the Decky Loader plugin ProtonDB Badges to get a good idea of what plays just fine without tweaks and what doesn't.

It's ultimately what you make of it because it can either be super casual and you just play what's on Steam exclusively, or you can be an enthusiast and use EmuDeck along with things like NonSteamLaunchers to get the most out of the system. As far as I understand you can use it for more serious aspects like if you need to use it for work or something, but treat it like a cumbersome laptop if you do.
>>
>>721389954
The deck is the best gaming device I've ever bought and it's not even close, but it depends on what you want from it. If you just want general portable gaming, go for it, it play so many fucking games. But if you want it exclusively for kernel level anti-cheat games like fortnite, then no, don't get a deck. Anything else? Go for it.
>>
>>721389954
Deck is portable in the way a Switch is, that is to say you're not gonna want to whip it out for 10 minutes while waiting for the bus. It's great for long trips and other things where you'll have the time to get comfy but won't have a desk so the form factor of just being able to hold it is really fucking nice. I love mine because it replaced my laptop and Switch when traveling, with an external keyboard and mouse plugged into the dock for the former. You're not gonna be playing modern AAA games on it without suffering heavily, and they'd eat the battery life anyway, but emulation, older games, and indies are fine and you get a couple of hours worth of play which is enough in the rare situations you don't have an outlet handy.

It's what I've had for about three years. It's solid. If I hadn't bought it already I would have bought an OLED one instead, but I bought a release 256GB and a Dock and it's really been good for me.
What do you want to use it for?
>>
>>721406853
In realistic terms OLED has slightly better performance, battery life, and obviously it's OLED. The cheapest version also sort of expects you to open it up to upgrade it to a 1/2TB SSD because what it comes with is very small nowadays. On the more expensive models the anti-glare stuff is bad from everyone who I've seen talked about it and the SSD bump can be done by yourself with no knowledge of anything and a screwdriver because the Steam Deck is repair-friendly.

As someone who has both, the base deck is still extremely good for its price. The oled is an overall improvement, but the lcd has gotten a lot of updates that make it much better than it was at launch. Easily still worth it over more expensive options if money is an issue.
>>
>>721407452
>If I get a dock can I use external storage?
Yeah. I even carry around a NVME enclosure and put movies on it so I can dock it at my friends house.
>>
>>721407452
The thing comes with the ability to use a MicroSD so you can just buy a 1TB and use that if you want outside of a dock.
>>
>>721407452
It's great for indie games, most games older than 2020 or so, though really old games and odd men out don't work well. For example, Recettear is a mess, though it's a mess on my PC nowadays too.
Good for emulation, and if you're willing to tinker at all, there's a lot you can do.
>>
>>721407717

Deadass, it's like people forget it's not some locked-down console. You just throw EmuDeck on it, dump your ROMs in the right folder, and boom-GBA, DS, 3DS, PS2, even Switch if you're feeling spicy. SteamOS barely gets in the way either, but if you're more comfy with Windows, you can dual boot it too. Pirating is just as easy as it is on your desktop, but now you can do it from bed with crusty fingers and no pants.
>>
>>721414380
If it's too much for you to afford don't bother. It's a minor bump up in performance and battery, the main appeal is the screen and its quality. The LCD is still perfectly acceptable and if you're in a country where it's genuinely like multiple months of your salary if not a year or more to save up for it just go for the LCD.

Real question to actual owner. Does your play time increase on neglected games after having a handheld? I imagine starting a game on the handheld, but then moving on the PC to have a fuller experience.

You stick a controller on your phone and use retroarch and winlator
>>
>>721424306
It's generally been more if it's a controller game and low spec I do it on the Deck hooked up to my TV. If it's a K/M game, or a mod heavy game, I do it in my PC.
It can vary though. I don't like playing horror games on my deck.

If a game supports cloud saves then I play it way more. Being able to swap between Deck and PC for Dark Souls for instance is great.

Do you get the 512gb oled and buy an ssd separately or just buy the 1tb oled? Money is not an issue and neither is upgrading it manually.
>>
>>721452748
Not a deck owner yet but I think the consensus, at least from what've read, is that you buy the 512gb and then upgrade to a 2tb ssd m2 and then a powerbank to double or triple game time and maybe a docking station
>>
>>721451147
The etched glass is actually a downgrade unless you play outside (lol)

you can buy the 512gb version and install an upgrade for 1tb pretty easily.

They're superior to laptops for at least 2 usecases. The first is airplanes, a laptop small enough to compete will be far weaker. The second is being bedridden, way more comfortable to play than a laptop. Otherwise a laptop will generally be a better portable computer.
>>
>>721434056
It has the performance of a laptop about twice it's cost, mainly because gaming laptops are overpriced. It doesn't replace a laptop in all scenarios, but it's a good deal for playing stuff in confined spaces.

>>721456117
2028 at the earliest. Valve is modeling their foray into hardware like Nintendo and will not be putting a new console out every time there's a new AMD release that hits the price target they need.

Valve is waiting for a price to performance ratio that allows them to offer an actually generational upgrade like going from ps2 to ps3.
