practice. racing is more about knowledge and muscle memory than reacting and adapting on the fly.
one of the first things you need to learn (in racing sims and simcade) is to not hammer down the throttle or brakes - those are bound to triggers for a reason. especially when cornering, you want to press them down gently, and only as far as the car can handle. too far, and you lose grip. too little, and you lose speed.
a little anecdote: michael schumacher was an expert in feeling out the throttle. I don't know how it is today, but in formula 1 back then, you would often her the engines of f1 cars howl in intervals when cornering - this was because drivers would constantly press and release the throttle again for short bursts of acceleration to feel out the limit. but you wouldn't hear schumacher's car do this - instead of constantly pressing and releasing the throttle when cornering, he would gently press it down to the *perfect* level where the car would accelerate, but not lose grip.

>>721415242
Fpbp.
Maybe the most important lesson for racing. If you're shifting all the time, you're doing something wrong; and if you're not taking your engine's power band into account, you're not getting the most out of your car.

I met the guy who built brum once when he was showing off his most well known robot used in robot wars (and it is was arguably the most important robot ever built for the series). He died a number of years ago sadly.

I just actually read the manual and all the ingame text in gran turismo 1 to lrn 2 racing line.
>>
>>721416954
If it's Horizon then you using automatic instead of manual will slow you down a little bit
Dunno if that also applies in motorsport

Which line is better in this case?
>>
>>721421823
It depends what comes next.
Red if it's another right turn so you're already on the outside read for it. Blue if it's a straight so you're on the throttle sooner or left turn so you can stick to the right hand side more easily.

Without knowing additional factors (such as the rest of the track, tyre conditions, weather, etc) you can't say for certain but generally the red line would be the line to take.

>>
f1 sucks
>>
>>721415115
The racing line "assist" is completely useless and will only reinforce bad habits in any racing game.
You do poorly with it off because you never learned the track, you learned how to follow the line.
Just pick a track, learn the braking points and spend a couple hours trying to lower your time more and more.
Remember that if you've been using the racing line option for a while you're arguably starting below zero, it'll take time but eventually you can learn.
Also if you're using automatic shift to manual asap

well, that depends

How is the newest F1 game? I don't think I played '23 for more than a few hours, since it felt like shit. Granted, that could just be reflective of newer cars, but I swear, ever since EA got a hold of it, it's been going downhill ever since.

Yeah but it's fun, the only woke thing in the game is you can set your country flag to a pride flag if you're a gayfag.
It's also very easy to download or even make your own liveries for it which is fun, I made a couple myself.

What other games should I get for fun? Thinking of just grabbing horizon 5 for casual offline racing even if it's arcade-ish.
