Windows and other software developers will be doing everything in their power to ensure that you move to Windows 11. While LTSC might officially have support that long, programs will be designed to break on 10 and software companies will be enticed to discontinue to support for it.
After this inevitably happens, Windows cattle will move on to Windows 11 LTSC and pretend that it's good, just like they did when moving from 7 to 10.

>>
>>721427018
No. Manjaro, CachyOS and EndeavourOS are all Arch-based and listed as their own entries as you can see. And the Steam Deck is shown as SteamOS Holo. Arch really is that popular among Linux gamers.
Hell, there's probably a fair bit of Arch users under Freedesktop SDK because that's everyone using Steam through Flatpak instead of the distro's own repository, so the real number should be even bigger.

The terminal is the easiest way for newbies to get into using Linux when using trusted documentation. No watching 30 minute Pajeet Youtube tutorials or AI generated slop like on Windows just so that they can spend all of that time navigating between menus, instead you just copy and paste, substituting where appropriate.

I tried Linux Mint Cinnamon and liked it up until trying to mod a game turned into a week long journey only to get cockblocked at the end. I also don't understand why so many things are still so obtuse on Linux when there's no reason for it to be. I don't want to get too into it, but at the end of it all Mint shat the bed hard and I ended up going back to my de-bloated copy of Win10 (IoT Ent LTSC). It sucks because I really wanted to move over to Linux but that experience was really bad. Something that takes at most an hour to set up exactly how you want it on Windows shouldn't take days of troubleshooting on Linux, but it did. Everything else worked very well, just had to mess around with Proton versions depending on the game. The prepackaged video player was also nice and Linux has some great audio players/libraries. I'll try it out again one of these days, maybe a different distro.

Why would you even bother switching to Linux?
If you have the time to fuck with it then that means you have the money and you could get the newest hardware and just pirate a version of win11 that you can the customize one and done and never deal with bullshit updates(what I did).
If you are poor then you should not give a fuck about Microsoft stealing your data, just pirate a 10 and be done with it, you have to wageslave like 60 hours a week you ain't got time for Linux bullshit.

Arch isn't that bad but I do want something more tested. But it's so up to date and doesn't install crap I don't want for me I don't know what else to use.

Flatpak literally exists for faggots like (you):
>sudo apt install flatpak

To be honest, Ubuntu is the distro I consistently have the most problems with, probably because it's bloated with so much fucking bullshit.
I daily drive Gentoo and I almost never have issues with that.

I've tested with about 200+ programs with near total success, the only notable thing this doesn't work for so far is Arkham Asylum. It also doesn't play nice with certain RPGmaker games if they use animated sprites.

according to him, he copied the folder from windows to linux, added the game to lutris and it didn't start (?????)

I would stay on CachyOS permanently if most of the MP games I usually play were compatible with Proton. Some used to, but many parent companies decided to go out of their way to add unnecessary anti-cheat software to make it impossible to play on Linux. I just can't understand why they decided to take this stance and update their almost decade-old abandoned games.

You shouldn't be using WINE for those, you should be flipping casefold on for the directory if needed and using a native copy of nwjs.
Running anything chromium-based under WINE is almost always a bad idea.

I have an old laptop with gtx765 in it.
I love old games and coffee a lot. There are many new useful tools for me as a developer, but they were not ported to win7 so I installed mint and now my 12 year old laptop is fresh again. Sure I can't play anything harder than Arkham knight, but I have desktop for that and honestly, I don't feel much need for big games, and smaller ones usually run pretty well though lutris, wine and steam.

When Windows has a problem, the cause is a mystery and the solution is to reinstall.
When Linux has a problem, the cause is always your fault or the software developer's fault, and the solution is to patch something and recompile it.

If you can pirate and customize modern Windows to improve its shittiness, congrats - you're already qualified to run a popular Linux distro. Clearly you know how Googling shit and copy-pasting commands work, and guess what? That's the very most that a majority of people would ever need on modern distros. Keep a cheat sheet .txt of common-use commands for your distro (for me it's updates and less straightforward package related commands), the only people who'll care about you not having them committed to memory from day one are lardlords on /g/ who think it's a competition to see how purposely obtuse you can make your daily computing experience.
