Thinking on the Fatigue discussion from last thread, I think Fatigue is actually a pretty bad mechanic on both conceit and framing. It IS a punishment for playing the game as told. Whether you are juggernauting or just liking a character and want to deploy them a lot to baby them, the game itself is saying you are having too much fun, time to use Jobberstein the Axe Fighter in the chapter with 20 sword guys. I don't think it is a fair system, or even a narratively congruent one. Unless you gotta make your lord another Monster Energy-addicted perpetual motion machine, why do they get the perk of never being fatigued?Much like the WoW beta answer to Stamina-to-Rested-XP idea, you need to frame the idea of rotating your units as a reward or challenge in its own right. You need to provide bonuses for units that hanged out in the back for a chapter, or make accessing your most valuable units a goal. Three Houses almost had a good idea with units that get MVP getting a full Motivation boost. Berwick Saga had a clever idea with the mercenary system, how you had to pay each of your members' salaries a chapter if you want them there. And you have to actually play smart, as an Injury could leave them literally crippled for the rest of the chapter, so you have to care for them and raise them up. Especially to obtain their loyalty, so that they join you for good.You need play into the idea that you are meant to have a parasocial relationship with these guys. Early promoting depends on the game and context for me. There are games where you want to promote asap like the 20-cap games, gaiden/echoes and engage, then there's Genealogy where you literally cannot early promote, and Tellius where it's kinda silly, but maybe justifiable in some cases. For the other games, I prefer to get units I intend to be 'main' units to 20 first to maximize secondary stat potential like HP, skill, luck. I might not mind early promoting a temp unit for utility purposes though.
